[Bug 460858] [NEW] compiz slow refresh
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz Currently using VirtualBox 3.0.8 with addons installed, 3D acceleration enabled. Visual effects set to normal via desktop->right click-> desktop background. Observed that there is a lag of approximately one keystroke for all applications, with the last character displayed after some sort of a timeout period. Example 1: * Firefox, typing this bug report If I want to type "foo baa": 1. I type "f" - no changes on the screen (assume that I do not wait for timeout) 2. I type "o" - "f" appears. 3. I type "o baa" - "oo ba" appears with almost no delay 4. after approx 0.5 - 1 second, the last "a" appears Example 2: * changing a command in a Terminal If I want to delete a line of characters "sudo aptitude" 1. I press the backspace key (cursor at the end of line) - nothing happens 2. wait approx 0.5-1 sec, the "e" is removed 3. Press and hold backspace - The end of the string is progressively deleted, the speed is as expected, until the first character ("s") 4. The character "s" stays for approx 0.5-1 sec before being removed. Similar problem is also observed with other keystrokes - eg. Ctrl- backspace for deleting a word, shift-cursor, etc for highlighting. No observable lag is detected with the mouse cursor, although menu appearance animations seems to have similar problem (click on it and it "half" appears - font is very narrow, still slightly transparent. It only becomes solid when one of the items becomes highlighted; click again and it "half" disappears - the menu can still be seen, until the the cursor in this message box flashes) It seems as though all animations/changes doesn't get finalised until something else triggers a refresh (cursor blink, menu item gets highlighted) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, move, resize, place, decoration, animation, ccp, dbus, mousepoll, gnomecompat, png, svg, imgjpeg, text, commands, neg, video, wall, snap, scale, scaleaddon, expo, staticswitcher, regex, resizeinfo, workarounds, ezoom, vpswitch, extrawm, fade, session] Date: Mon Oct 26 15:22:46 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub MachineType: innotek GmbH VirtualBox Package: compiz 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu2 PackageArchitecture: all PciDisplay: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: InnoTek Systemberatung GmbH VirtualBox Graphics Adapter [80ee:beef] ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic root=UUID=b902f46b-0eea-44bb-a558-d987eb7661ec ro ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_AU.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic RelatedPackageVersions: xserver-xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu7 libgl1-mesa-glx 7.6.0-1ubuntu4 libdrm2 2.4.14-1ubuntu1 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2 xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.99+git20090929.7968e1fb-0ubuntu1 SourcePackage: compiz Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic x86_64 dmi.bios.date: 12/01/2006 dmi.bios.vendor: innotek GmbH dmi.bios.version: VirtualBox dmi.modalias: dmi:bvninnotekGmbH:bvrVirtualBox:bd12/01/2006:svninnotekGmbH:pnVirtualBox:pvr1.2: dmi.product.name: VirtualBox dmi.product.version: 1.2 dmi.sys.vendor: innotek GmbH system: distro = Ubuntu, architecture = x86_64, kernel = 2.6.31-14-generic ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug -- compiz slow refresh https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460858 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Was able to proceed to login screen, then changed to tty to do some thing, return to login screen and logged in - no problem so far. After logging in, I left my computer. On return, the Ubuntu desktop was as it was (was expecting to see blank screen due to screen saver), but I was unable to click anything. Tried pressing Ctrl-alt-F1, etc, unable to switch to tty. Unlike previous instances of this error on my machine, the VM did not consume 100% CPU. Magic-sysrq does not produce any output on the monitor, but should have been working as activity (in response to sysrq commands) was observed by monitoring the VM from the host machine. I was unable to report the bug when the error occurred due to the lack of responsive displays. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.10 Release:9.10 $ apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.4+3ubuntu7 Candidate: 1:7.4+3ubuntu7 Version table: *** 1:7.4+3ubuntu7 0 500 http://au.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 CurrentDmesg: [ 20.312569] eth0: no IPv6 routers present Date: Mon Oct 26 11:06:56 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub MachineType: innotek GmbH VirtualBox Package: xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu7 PciDisplay: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: InnoTek Systemberatung GmbH VirtualBox Graphics Adapter [80ee:beef] Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx- Status: Cap- 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- SERR- https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 457965] [NEW] Key presses during Recovery menu captured by root shell
Public bug reported: 1. Start computer 2. Hold Shift to get into Grub2 menu 3. Select the recovery version of the kernel 4. Computer boots, displays the recovery menu (the one that says normal boot, dpkg, etc) 5. Computer reports problems with mounting file system, drops to root shell and gave option to press Ctrl-D. The error message was outputted over the top of the menu (ie. still see the character-based menu structure) 6. Pressing enter causes the command prompt to be outputed without carriage return or line feed. 7. Running "top" resets the screen such that everything displays properly 8. The recover menu randomly repaints itself 9. When typing commands, the command often (not always) have the 1st character removed (eg. type "fsck", only "sck" get sent to shell) 10. On next recovery menu repaint, it showed that the highlighted row is the line that has the starting character matching the clipped character (in example above, the menu entry for fsck is selected) 11. Pressing enter sends the command to the root shell (not executing the selected menu entry) Other aspects: * /dev/sda1 (/) was mounted correctly in rw mode - I don't know what the file system error is about. * Not sure what else I should include - or how to get to it as I've restarted the computer multiple times. [Bug 439784] Re: invalid: environment block
Instead of changing grub.cfg, what I've done on my computer was to change /etc/grub.d/10_linux (the source file when generating the grub.cfg): Remove the lines that mentions recordfail: $ diff /etc/grub.d/10_linux /etc/grub.d/.10_linux.bak 59a60,61 > recordfail=1 > save_env recordfail I then run: $ sudo chmod u+w /boot/grub/grub.cfg $ sudo grub-mkconfig > /boot/grub/grub.cfg $ sudo chmod u-w /boot/grub/grub.cfg This should stop update-grub from adding the lines back. -- invalid: environment block https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439784 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
