[Bug 629713] Re: No display screen - out of range

2011-09-08 Thread R33D3M33R
I would just like to report that this issue still exists in the latest
updated (august 2011) Ubuntu 10.10. I eventually got tired of having to
use 3Dfx Voodoo just to get a working system and installed another OS.

[Bug 42629] Re: EOG crashes on SVG images created with OpenOffice.org Draw

2011-04-04 Thread R33D3M33R
Using latest 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10, this still causes eog and even GIMP to
consume massive amounts of memory, the system becomes completely
unresponsive and at some time just freezes. Hard reboot is required
after this. The only program capable of opening this file from Draw
seems to be Inkscape.

[Bug 692185] Re: Error with Java, the game has close (Flying guns)

2011-01-04 Thread R33D3M33R
Yes, but that is unrelated. If you have Ati Catalyst fglrx drivers
installed and run Java games with OpenGL, the game will crash:
http://www.google.si/search?q=C+[%2B0x416]+__kernel_vsyscall%2B0x2. The
problem can't be resolved if Ati doesn't fix the drivers. You could use
the opensource Ati drivers or use Java in Wine: http://www.winehq.org/

[Bug 691480] [NEW] Alternate installer gets stuck at 73%

2010-12-17 Thread R33D3M33R
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

On certain hardware combinations the alternate installer hangs at 73%
when updating the list of available packages. I tried to unplug the
network cable, but it didn't change a thing. This happened on two
computers with PATA disk and PATA CD/DVD. The installer works fine on
another computer with SATA disk and SATA DVD. This makes no sense as
alternate installer is meant for weaker/older systems that have only
PATA components. The installer has been useless for 2 years now!

[Bug 629713] Re: No display screen - out of range

2010-10-28 Thread R33D3M33R

Geforce 4 Ti 4200 (AGP 8x)
Samsung SyncMaster 710N

Release: Maverick 10.10
Kernel: 2.6.35-22-generic i386

When booting into normal system or recovery mode, the monitor turns off.
The system seems too boot normally, but I can't verify this as I can't
see the screen contents. Switch to console via Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't
change a thing. The system is unusable.

[Bug 626874] Re: Cdrom automount after hard ejecting fails

2010-09-09 Thread R33D3M33R
** Also affects: udisks
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

  Hello,

when a CD is in use and you hard eject it (hard = manually click the
eject button on the device), next and every after CD you insert won't be
  automounted. You can still use mount /dev/sr0 /cdrom -t iso9660 -o
loop, but it's not very convenient and far from user-friendly.

The scenario can be particularly reproduced, when CD-ROM is shared over
samba network, and someone is actually accessing the CD (or even done
accessing it, but samba still uses it). This situation isn't that
uncommon, since lots of netbooks (all of them?) haven't a CD-ROM, so one
way to access CD content on a netbook is to share a CD on PC.

Other way to reproduce this issue is to mount a CD image (e.g. an .iso),
that is recorded on a CD/DVD, with e.g. cdemu. Even after releasing the
.iso from virtual drive, the real CD still appears in use, and one way
to eject it is to hard eject it and trigger the issue. (The other way
is to restart cdemud (funny though)).

I believe, that when wine is using a CD (e.g. windows installer), the CD
is in use forever too, hence the issue occur from here too.

To summarize: hard ejecting is cool (allows to eject CDs, that appears
in use), but triggers an annoying automount malfunction until next
  system reboot.

  Regards,
  phan

I think I'm experiencing the same bug. Steps to reproduce:

1.) Insert disc, it automounts
2.) Eject disc with the button on the DVD drive
3.) Disc ejects, but Icon stays on desktop
4.) Put in blank disc, it automounts and now I have two icons on desktop
5.) Try to burn something with Brasero, the program gets stuck
6.) Eject the blank disc now with the button on DVD drive
7.) Disc ejects and both icons disappear

or

1.) Insert disc, it automounts
2.) Eject disc with the button on the DVD drive
3.) Disc ejects, but Icon stays on desktop
4.) Put in not empty disc with different name, it fails to mount
5.) Eject the disc with the button on the DVD drive, icon stays on desktop
6.) Repeat steps 4. and 5., automount fails everytime, icon from step 1. still
there
7.) Unmount on icon, it dissapears, automount still fails

Binary package hint: brasero

Brasero in Lucid Lynx burns very slow. The DVD is Optiarc AD-7191S SATA

[Bug 524454] Re: Networking is disabled on boot

Same problem here with Kubuntu 10.04. The computer was in standby. It
didn't resume from it, instead black screen was shown. Then I forced
reboot and since then KNetworkManager showed Unmanaged/Network
Management disabled. After changing
/var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state contents this works again.
As already written, KNetworkManager applet should have a checkbox -
enable networking.

[Bug 429370] Re: Eduroam randomly disconnects

But the connection doesn't drop anymore.

This above is true for one of the computers. The other can't even
connect (look at comment #23) with anything above Ubuntu 8.04, but for
this I blame badly configured network system in my dorm.

Do you leech to encrypted filesystems? On my problem machine, I do
(encrypted XFS partition, in an LVM volume), and I've noticed quite a severe
performance bottleneck, particularly when allocating (large) files (before

Yes. I do have my /home partition encrypted (that's where the downloads
go) and I have also noticed that the allocating takes longer than with
my previous system (8.04, Ktorrent 2.2.5 (or something like that), /home
wasn't encrypted).

[Bug 429370] [NEW] Eduroam randomly disconnects

2009-09-14 Thread R33D3M33R
Public bug reported:

I connect to a Eduroam network with a certificate, user name and password over
tunneled TLS, WPA WPA 2.
After upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10, the network works for some time then
disconnects. Numerous sudo ifdown -a and sudo ifup -a are needed to establish
the connection again.
I have tried upgrading to 9.04, but disconnects still happen. Then I upgraded
the kernel to v2.6.30.5. Still the disconnects were present. And with the
standard procedure, the connection could be established again.
Today I upgraded to 9.10, and the situation got worse. After boot the
connection was established, but then it dropped and it won't establish again.
After reboot, the connection works again.
If you need any logs, please tell.

I just downgraded the kernel to 2.6.24 found here:

This kernel (2.6.24-24-generic) is also installed in Hardy and there, as
already mentioned, the connection never drops.
But here in 9.10 after boot the connection works, then after some time the
connection still drops and its imposible to reconnect.

you can change the mode to fullscreen by editing ~/.gltronrc file.
There can you set settings.windowMode = 1 to settings.windowMode = 0

[Bug 270461] Re: Alpha-5 alternate installer fails

2008-11-02 Thread R33D3M33R
I tried installing Kubuntu 8.10 final with the alternate CD. Checked CD
for defects and no error. The installer stops with Media Change error as
above. I tried to figure out what was wrong, and noticed the installed
sources.list file, contains only the path to the installer, but no web
mirrors. Because the installer stops almost right after updating the APT
sources, this might be it.
