[Bug 1966911] Re: Cannot enroll finger on Jammy

2024-05-25 Thread RJ Edgerly
Comment
https://bugs.launchpad.net/libfprint-2-tod1-goodix/+bug/1966911/comments/42
says "libfprint-2-tod1-goodix only supports 27c6:533C", if so, might
that explain why the driver is ineffective on Dell XPS 13?

[Bug 1966911] Re: Cannot enroll finger on Jammy

2024-05-25 Thread RJ Edgerly
Installed `libfprint-2-tod1-goodix/jammy,now 0.0.6-0ubuntu1~22.04.1` via
ppa:andch/staging-fprint on Ubuntu 22.04, but no "Fingerprint Login"
option appears in "Settings" -> "Users". This was after running `reboot`
to restart the machine: Dell XPS 13.

Reportedly this was not an issue with 18.04.3, although I cannot say I
have personally tried this.

[Bug 1316402] Re: OpenGL ES 2 support

2018-09-22 Thread RJ Skerry-Ryan
I believe a fix for this is required for QML-based UIs, since I believe
the whole QML UI is rendered with an OpenGL ES 2-only context. Software
rendering will also do a number on your battery when a much more
efficient route is available :).

[Bug 1793202] Re: SIGILL on i386

2018-09-18 Thread RJ Skerry-Ryan
What would be the best way to do that? Since this crash is in static
initialization, we don't have the chance to add a check in main(). If we
had a wrapper script that runs mixxx we could do it there, but I'm not
sure that's the best way?

It looks like since Artful, there is an i386 universe package called
"sse2-support"
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/sse2-support
that prevents installation if the user's CPU doesn't have SSE2. That seems like
a good solution?

[Bug 1793202] Re: SIGILL on i386

2018-09-18 Thread RJ Skerry-Ryan
This has been reported 75 times in the last year according to
errors.ubuntu.com.

Notably, almost all the CPUs do not have SSE2, and we build with SSE2.
So that's (SSE2 instructions) probably where the SIGILL is coming from.
The stack trace is in the static initialization phase right when mixxx
starts up.

I don't know if we care, but it's worth noting that happens.

[Bug 1325752] Re: All apps become mute when certain apps are opened.

2018-09-14 Thread RJ Skerry-Ryan
@27:
pulse has a ton more features than dmix, which is why most distros use it

If all of your apps are using pulseaudio then they shouldn't conflict
with each other. This suggests there is a rogue app running pasuspender
or somesuch (for example, the Mixxx desktop icon uses pasuspender by
default, so this will conflict with everything. If you run mixxx from a
terminal then it will not).

I reviewed that as well, as I was unaware of it because I was not the
package maintainer in Debian back then.

 Jeremy Bicha (jbicha) wrote:

Reviewing them, they all seem to be on old pre 3.x versions of the
application and all of the Debian bugs associated with them were closed
as resolved (which does not automatically update the tracker, it
appears...). (And note further that the current Debian version of the
package, 3.2.6-1, is in Debian Testing as well as in Debian Unstable).

 Jeremy Bicha (jbicha) wrote:

[Bug 1782956] [NEW] Sync sql-ledger 3.2.6-1 (main) from Debian sid (main)

2018-07-21 Thread RJ Clay
Public bug reported:

Please sync sql-ledger 3.2.6-1 (main) from Debian sid (main)

Package backports to Cosmic and builds cleanly.
Reference: sql-ledger - 3.2.6-1~ubuntu18.10.1 at
https://launchpad.net/~sql-ledger/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages

The updated package closed three bugs in Debian and closes one bug in
Ubuntu.

Changelog entries since most recent version in Ubuntu Xenial:

sql-ledger (3.2.6-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream. (Closes: #862953)(LP: #1537461)
  * Bump the Debhelper version from '9' to '10'.
  * Use an HTTPS URL in the debian/watch file.
  * Add the following Lintian override files: debian/source/lintian-overrides
and debian/sql-ledger.lintian-overrides.
  * Removed the debian/patches/latex-cmdline-option patch file as it does not
apply to the new upstream.
  * Add a debian/patches/FixINCissue.patch file. (Closes: #869994)
  * Add a debian/patches/MitigateLintianError.patch file.
  * Redo 'templates' install info in the debian/sql-ledger.install file.
  * Rewrite debian/copyright, following copyright-format v1.0 guidelines.
  * Changes in debian/control:
+ Declare compliance with Debian Policy 4.1.4.
+ Add 'Rules-Requires-Root: binary-targets' to the source stanza.
+ Set 'Robert James Clay ' as the new Maintainer.
  (Closes: #862963)
+ Update Vcs-Git & Vcs-Browser entries to the new URLs at salsa.debian.org.

2017-10-03 Thread RJ Clay
Indeed and I agree but the bug when running on Perl v5.26 will need to be
resolved first, by either a patch in the package or (preferably) a new upstream
version that can handle running on that version of Perl.
See also Debian bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=869994

Also; given a PPA to use, a backport of v3.08 or even of v3.25 could be
made available for trusty at least for testing purposes.

[Bug 1537461] Re: Version 3.2 of SQL Ledger now available

I'm primaraly a packager for Debian but keep in mind that is
traditionally via Debian that applications and updates to those
applications are done. OTOH; if I were not interested in the status of
SQL-Ledger in Ubuntu, I would not have been reviewing the bugs present
for it there.

There not being a public repository for upstream is definitely an
issue.

There is the Debian packaging repository, currently at:
https://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/sql-ledger.git.

That will be changing at some point, possibly, due to infrastructure changes
at Debian.
There is also this packaging repository at GitHub, mirrored from the Debian
one, where there is
   a branch for packaging v3.2.5:
https://github.com/rocasa/pkg-sql-ledger

And regarding the missing sourse files issue itself; other
applications use something like that same file, so need to see how they
handle it.

Shouldn't something like that be sent to upstream?

> Would you mind sharing how to reproduce these bugs?

You mean, those lintian errors? A minimal command line for that is as
follows (where my system
is set to automatically run Lintian after the build and also includes an
apropriate '-e" option): debuild -rfakeroot -us -uc
That, of course, is on an extracted sql-ledger archive with an apropriate
debian/ directory.

[Bug 1281329] Re: Sync up 14.04 release with latest avaiable version from project

2017-08-06 Thread RJ Clay
Note that while it didn't make tt into trusty (14.04 LTS), version v3.0.8 of
SQL-Ledger did make it into xenial (16.04 LTS).
Also, there have already been open bugs in both Debian[1] and Ubuntu[2]
requesting that the most current version (currently v3.2.5) be packaged.

[Bug 1537461] Re: Version 3.2 of SQL Ledger now available

2017-08-06 Thread RJ Clay
This package was orphaned in Debian and I am looking at adopting it. As
part of that, I have attempted to update the packaging to be for
upstream v3.2.5, which resulted in the following new issues:

1) The existing latex-cmdline-option patch did not apply as is to the new
upstream. That will need to
be resolved in order to proceed.

2) More importantly; it results in a following new Lintian Error:

E: sql-ledger source: source-is-missing js/calendar.js line length is
1212 characters (>512)

- That 'js/calendar.js' file is also public domain, so besides resolving
the 'source-is-missing' issue, the debian/copyright file will need to be
updated for it.

[Bug 1637247] Re: Doesn't work properly after installation (and fix)

2017-05-21 Thread RJ Clay
This was resolved with the upload to Debian of 1.3.47-1 a year ago and
subsequent migration to Ubuntu. That 1.3.x series version has since been
replaced by the 1.4.x series; for instance, 1.4.32+ds-1 which is in Ubuntu
16.10 (Yakkety). The most recent version of that series in Ubuntu is

[Bug 1638125] Re: USN-3109-1: MySQL vulnerabilities partially applies to MariaDB too

2016-12-08 Thread RJ Ryan
Regarding ironstorm's note in #21, we didn't realize our /var/lib/mysql
folder was moved to /tmp/mysql-symlink-restore-forbvv/.

Apparently a previous upgrade of mysql-5.7 left /var/lib/mysql-upgrade/
in place with a DATADIR symlink to 'mysql-5.7'. This confused mariadb-
server-10.0.postinst [1] and triggered the "# this should never even
happen, but just in case..." block. Neither ironstorm or I noticed that
our /var/lib/mysql folder had been moved into /tmp, so we thought it had
been lost.

Glad to not have data loss, but pretty spooked. /tmp does not seem like
a very good place for this since it could be automatically wiped.

[Bug 1623298] [NEW] File roller cannot rename a file inside a .zip file, also cannot delete files in it

2016-09-13 Thread RJ
Public bug reported:

File Roller 3.16.5, running on Ubuntu 16.4.1 LTS 64-bit
When trying to rename a file in a zip-archive, FR shows a message "An error
occurred while renaming the files."

When trying to delete a file (or group of files): "An error occurred
while deleting files from the archive."

In both cases, the zip file is unchanged as a result.
As a workaround (and also a way to confirm that the zip file itself is not
damaged), I use WinZip running on Wine.

[Bug 1513691] Re: package ledgersmb 1.3.46-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2015-12-06 Thread RJ Clay
As noted in DpkgTerminalLog.txt, this looks to be associated with the
following error:

apache2_reload: Your configuration is broken. Not reloading Apache 2
apache2_reload: AH00526: Syntax error on line 9 of
/etc/apache2/conf-enabled/ledgersmb.conf:
apache2_reload: Invalid command 'RewriteEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined
by a module not included in the server configuration

That line 9 is the "RewriteEngine On" line. That error might come up if
the rewrite module wasn't enabled in apache, but this happened during an
upgrade from v15.04 to v15.10, where apache and ledgersmb were
apparently already installed and operational and therefore the rewrite
module should already have been enabled in apache. Will investigate
further.

[Bug 1325752] Re: All apps become mute when certain apps are opened.

2014-10-05 Thread RJ Ryan
Hi -- to repeat what Jus said in #13 -- the Mixxx desktop shortcut runs:

$ pasuspender mixxx

Mixxx itself does not suspend Pulse. This is a workaround because pulse
does not support low-latency audio well and pulse also claims the user's
audio devices. I presume Pulse has improved in the 4 years since we
added this -- if it has we can remove this in our next release.

A workaround for users affected by this: Run Mixxx from a terminal or by
pressing Alt + F2 and typing mixxx in the box. This runs Mixxx without
changing Pulse at all.

[Bug 1289977] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found

2014-10-01 Thread RJ White
Folks,
I was bit by this today, turning my dual-bootable laptop into a brick.
I tried a lot of things here and nothing worked.
What did work for me was following directions in
http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/245
I'm running Linux Mint 17 Qiana, which is based on Ubuntu 14.04
I was upgrading from Mint 16 to Mint 17 and the install appeared to work fine.

For me, the following worked:

 mount /dev/sda5 /mnt
 grub-install --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda
 reboot

which is close to some suggestions others made but those didn't work for me.
Obviously you'd need to change the sda5 to whatever is appropriate for you.
No, I have not made a typo above. There is no trailing number on the sda for
the grub-install command.

The above for me worked, despite the error message:
grub-probe: error: failed to get canonical path of /cow.
Hope this helps.

[Bug 1263233] Re: Mixxx crashes at scratching - floating point exception

2013-12-22 Thread RJ Ryan
Oops, it's not actually fixed in RB tip. I just didn't know how to
reproduce it fully.

1) Load track to deck.
2) Don't play / move yet.
3) Enable keylock.
4) Right click scratch forward.

It looks like speeds of less than 0.00390625 (1/256) crash librubberband
because it causes the input-increment variable to be 0 and there are a
bunch of places in librubberband that code divided by the input
increment.

We had a similar MIN_SEEK_SPEED in SoundTouch so I could just add that
workaround in. I'll also report this upstream.

Thanks for the report -- there are a variety of things that could have
caused this. I can't reproduce this, though.

Could you please get a backtrace?

[Bug 1239904] [NEW] 12.04LTS sudo apt-get install acct returns /etc/environment: line 3: unexpected EOF while looking for matching ''dpkg: error processing install-info (--configure) Sub process /usr

2013-10-14 Thread rj
Public bug reported:

tried installing the acct package on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS by typing sudo apt-get
install acct. Setting up install-info (4.13a.dfsg.1-8ubuntu2)...
/etc/enviroment: line 3: unexpected EOF while looking for matching '' dpkg:
error processing install-info (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
install-info
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Also, process states that the following packages were automatically installed
and are no longer required:
linux-headers-3.2.0.29 linux-headers-3.2.0.29-generic use apt-get autoremove to
remove them.

When I run apt-get autoremove I get the same error as stated above.
