[Bug 1731459] Re: genesys_gl847 scanners produce a black band in scanned images on Ubuntu 17.10

2018-03-20 Thread ramas
This bug is serious for me as I use my scanner everyday.

I am under Lubuntu 17.10.

For who like me cannot wait the official patch, can follow how I did
solve:

1. get the source not from git but from the official package manager with
command:
apt-get source libsane1
it did download and create the directory sane-backends-1.0.27/

2. modify the lines 2075-2077 of file sane-backends-1.0.27/backend/genesys.c
into:
  if (dev->model->flags & GENESYS_FLAG_SHADING_REPARK &&
dev->model->cmd_set->slow_back_home)
{
  status = dev->model->cmd_set->slow_back_home (dev, dev->model->flags );

3. build the dependencies with command:
 sudo apt-get build-dep libsane1

4. I had to copy the file /usr/share/aclocal/libtool.m4 into sane-
backends-1.0.27/m4 as the build process complained it was missing

5. then build the fixed package with command:
  cd sane-backends-1.0.27
  dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -uc -b

6. then install the updated package with command:
  cd ..
  sudo dpkg -i libsane1_1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu2.1_amd64.deb

7. I did restart my PC (but I do not know if this is necessary)

8. My simple-scan gui program did output a clean scan!!

I am still unable to get it working with a brand new bt headset I got
today: it works with my android device, but with your module it get
detected without problems, it get paired but the connection fails, here
it is a brief bluetoothctl session:

[Bug 1005649] Re: bluetooth software not working on Linux Mint 13 MATE

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your effort in order to solve this bug. Unfortunately I'm not
able to use your solution. Too n00b for that. If it's not a package that
I can install it, then it's over for me. I wonder why it's not released
an update for this issue.

[Bug 1005649] Re: bluetooth software not working on Linux Mint 13 MATE

2012-12-12 Thread RaMaS
@R Beekman

There is no solution right now, but there is an work around. You can follow the
way trek1701 did show us in post #16. It worked for me at that time. But, after
migrating to Nadia, I had the same problem again because of packages version
1.4.0. This time, I have solved more simply using the Synaptic Manager:
1. remove packages mate-bluetooth and libmatebluetooth ver. 1.4.0
2. downgrade to 1.2.0-1 (Package-Force version for mate-bluetooth and
libmatebluetooth packages) and install them
3. lock the version (Package-Lock Version).

Dont't forget to reboot after installing the 1.2.0 version.

[Bug 1005649] Re: bluetooth software not working on Linux Mint 13 MATE

2012-06-29 Thread RaMaS
Hi Christian (chri-dion),

The packages you mentioned in post #11, I have already installed since
the bug report. And the way you launch the bluetooth wizard works.

BUT, the bug reported is about mate-bluetooth-wizard and other MATE
bluetooth apps . The gnome bluetooth wizard (bluetooth-wizard) is
working fine and this I've said from the beginning (see point 5 in the
bug description; it's true that I was not so clear there).

Btw, there's no need to be root. You can launch the gnome bt wizard from
the terminal under you regular user without sudo.

[Bug 1005649] Re: bluetooth software not working on Linux Mint 13 MATE

2012-06-19 Thread RaMaS
I've tried mate-bluetooth 1.3.0-1. I've noticed no difference regarding
the behavior.

1. Still Preferences and Set up new device... are not working, with
the same error messages as shown by cereal.

2. The transfer and browsing of files on the bluetooth device are
working, IF the device was added by other way than Set up new
device... in MATE. But this worked also before installing mate-
bluetooth 1.3.0. So, no news here.

3. mate-bluetooth-applet hangs itself (not responding to left or right
click) if I click on Browse files on device I had to stop the
process and restart it to make it work again. The error messages are
again:

(mate-bluetooth-applet:2626): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register
existing type `BluetoothClient'

(mate-bluetooth-applet:2626): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave:

2. select a file (for example a .pdf)

[Bug 59695] Re: default value in power.sh potentially kills laptop disks

2007-10-29 Thread ramas
Just some more reporting about this issue:

- The command sudo hdparm -I /dev/sda shows this line about APM:

Advanced power management level: unknown setting (0x80fe)

The 0xfe byte is the 254 value I set whith the -B command in
hexadecimal, but i do not understand the 0x80 byte and why it tells
unknown setting.

- The command sudo smartctl -d ata -a /dev/sda shows also other values, some
of them very high and incrementing:
Raw_Read_Error_Rate, Seek_Error_Rate, Unknown_Attribute (with ID# 190),
Hardware_ECC_Recovered

Reading in internet I found not so clear info about them; for example, the
Raw_Read_Error_Rate here says lower is better:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-Monitoring%2C_Analysis%2C_and_Reporting_Technology
while here (linked from the above wikipedia page) it says the opposite:
http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/smart-attributes/raw-read-error-rate.html

how can we have more complete information about these parameters?

The command hdparm -b 255 turn off completely APM.
This could last HD life by saving load cycles.
On the other hand, the HD temperature could get very HOT (51°c on my Inspiron),
also decreasing drive life.

I wonder if there is another better solution to this, for example using SMART
functions with smartctl.
BTW fot Itachi drives I found this page that could help:
