[Bug 1843018] Re: 5.0.0-27-generic: /proc//maps: Pathnames are '/' inside a container

2019-09-14 Thread Radoslaw Jurewicz
My team has encountered this as well and it affects both our on-premise Linux
as well as Azure VMs kernels. Last versions which were working for us are:
- In azure case 5.0.0-1016-azure
- In case of on-premise 5.0.0-25-generic
After upgrading to 5.0.0.-1018-azure and 5.0.0-28, respectively, both stopped
working.

[Bug 1813212] [NEW] Ubuntu dock auto-hide using mouse is unreliable

2019-01-24 Thread Radoslaw
Public bug reported:

This is usability bug that exists in Ubuntu starting from 2012 (see this
bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/996158)

Using mouse with Ubuntu dock auto-hide mode makes the mouse to shift
left while pointer stays in place (at the left edge). The effect is your
mouse is shifting (every time you try to access the dock) to the left
until there is no space on the table and you have to take it up and move
to the right. This is very inconvinient and makes usage of the dock
unreliable.

The issue seems to be caused such a reveal mechanizm when you have to
"push" the pointer do the left edge to make dock to re-appear. The
faulty behaviour has been introduced in Unity-2D, than copied to Unity
than copied to gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock.

Currently there is no other option but DO NOT USE THE AUTO HIDE function
to avoid frustration.

2019-01-07 Thread Radoslaw Ejsmont
The .desktop files for snaps are located in /var/lib/snapd/desktop. And
their names are in the following format: snap-package-name_original-
name.desktop. This explains why overrides with original-name.desktop in
~/.local/share/applications/ did not work. When renamed to snap-package-
name_original-name.desktop things work perfectly!

[Bug 1810688] Re: Snap-installed .desktop items cannot be overridden

2019-01-07 Thread Radoslaw Ejsmont
In such a case, there should be an option to hide .desktop items for a
particular app from the launcher. There are cases when fixes in .desktop items
are the only sane way of fixing stuff, and the camera issue is a great example
of this. That camera model is mounted upside-down in some laptop models and
upright in others. There is no way to determine the correct orientation from
USB id. Kernel module options are also not a solution, as kernel policy
discourages any image processing done in the kernel modules.
I do not suggest an option to do any user-edits within snaps (I agree having
snaps self-contained and not user-editable is a good idea), but rather gnome
launcher properly picking up a .desktop override from .local user dir. One can
easily do this with command-line snaps by adding shell alias. IMHO local
.desktop overrides are completely analogous to that.

[Bug 1810688] [NEW] Snap-installed .desktop items cannot be overridden

2019-01-06 Thread Radoslaw Ejsmont
Public bug reported:

Snaps for GUI applications provide .desktop items via files in
${SNAP}/meta/gui/*.desktop files. These are picked up by the gnome
launcher that lists them accordingly. However, unlike .desktop files
from /usr/share/applications, these cannot be overridden by copying
.desktop files into ~/.local/share/applications/ and modifying them
accordingly. One of the use cases for this is, for example, fixing
rotated camera issue in Skype, that requires launching skype with
preloaded v4l1compat.so. A simple fix for Skype is to replace

Exec=skype %U

with

Exec=env LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so"
skype %U

in skypeforlinux.desktop file. However, unlike expected, the presence of
~/.local/share/applications/skypeforlinux.desktop results in duplicate
items for Skype in gnome launcher. This removes the user-configurability
of desktop items for apps installed via snap. The user-configurability
for which we all love linux.

This bug has been tested in the following environment:

Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS - fresh install with default settings
snapd-2.34.2+18.04
gdm-3.28.3-0ubuntu18.04.3

[Bug 1801602] Re: Gnome 3 fullscreen doesn't work for some applications

2018-11-07 Thread Radoslaw
Further investigation shows that the abe game fails fullscreen only when
I have additional xrandr mode added. It's set within session startup
script with commands:

output="HDMI-0"
xrandr --nograb --newmode "960x540"   40.75  960 992 1088 1216  540 543 548 562
-hsync +vsync
xrandr --nograb --addmode $output 960x540

When I disable the mode addition abe runs fine fullscreen. Way to Go
fails always no matter the additional mode is inserted or not.

[Bug 1801602] [NEW] Gnome 3 fullscreen doesn't work for some applications

2018-11-04 Thread Radoslaw
Public bug reported:

Using Gnome 3 or Ubuntu session (default in 18.04) when you try to run
some game in fullscreen mode instead it opens at top left small window.
This happens for example for Way to Go! Steam game and perhaps any SDL 1
game. It's easy to reproduce, install a game using SDL 1 library for
example abe (apt install abe) and try to run it. There are two kinds of
effect, the abe and perhaps other games from Ubuntu repository fails to
run properly fullscreen only on first use after login. On second and
further run they launch properly on fullscreen. The Steam game (Way to
Go !) fails to run fullscreen each time. Sometimes you see only part of
the game screen at top left window and you even can't operate it,
sometimes whole screen is shown. When you manage to reach game settings
switching fullscreen on and off few times makes the fullscreen run
properly. The problem doesn't exist for example using Unity or
Windowmaker sessions. It exists using any Gnome 3 Xorg sessions, even
the classic one.

[Bug 1511855] Re: Some Sony Dualshock 4 controllers do not work in kernel 3.15+

2016-02-13 Thread Radoslaw
I confirm the issue is present in Ubuntu 15.10 (kernel 4.2) and fixed
by running latest 4.5 RC kernel. It is maybe worth to note the the issue
regards only bluetooth connection. The controler works fine using USB
cable also with previous kernel versions.

[Bug 1326567] Re: [Asus M4A88T-M] problem with drm:drm_mode_addfb and drm:radeon_crtc_page_flip

2014-11-21 Thread Radoslaw
Looking at the description of above macros at ./include/drm/drmP.h the
logging is active only when drm.debug kernel option is set. Indeed I
found this option in my /etc/default/grub file:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="plymouth:debug splash quiet drm.debug=0xe"

It seems the option is not default in recent Ubuntu release (at least
14.04), becouse restoring content of the file to default makes the line
look like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

How the drm.debug option did get to the configuration file I don't know.
Maybe this is remainder from prevoius Ubuntu release ant stayed after
upgrade ?

Thus there is no need to recompile kernel modules, just remove the
drm.debug kernel option from /etc/grub/default and regenerate grub
configuration with update-grub.

2014-11-19 Thread Radoslaw
There is also another place with produces the second type of message
(drm:drm_mode_addfb) - in the file:

linux-source-3.13.0/drivers/gpu/drm/drm_crtc.c:

DRM_DEBUG_KMS("[FB:%d]\n", fb->base.id);

Commenting this and the line in prevoius post makes the kernel log to be
quiet.

[Bug 1326567] Re: [Asus M4A88T-M] problem with drm:drm_mode_addfb and drm:radeon_crtc_page_flip

2014-11-14 Thread Radoslaw
Thanks Christopher but I think my problem is pretty the same as in this
bug report. Looking at the source code provided with Ubuntu 14.04
distribution it seems the reason is just some debug logging switched on
in the kernel file:

linux-source-3.13.0/drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/radeon_display.c

There is radeon_crtc_page_flip function that contains:

DRM_DEBUG_DRIVER("flip-ioctl() cur_fbo = %p, cur_bbo = %p\n",
 work->old_rbo, rbo);

The command is called unconditionally. Solution seems to be simply
removing or commenting out above line.

[Bug 993862] Re: NetworkManager ethernet connection doesn't work after upgrade to 12.04

2012-09-25 Thread Radoslaw
For example information about computer hostname is not vital to solve a
problem. I think the apport-collect tool should be changed to replace
such data with fake values, or allow user to verify and modify it by
hand.

Returning to the case. The problem with network-manager disappeared, I
don't know when, maybe after some updates. I upgraded lately another
computer from 10.04 to 12.04 and similiar problem didn't appear.

[Bug 989477] Re: Unity launcher does not re-appear when autohide switched on

2012-05-02 Thread Radoslaw
Similiar issue is on x86, but the launcher reveals sometimes when you
try to move the mouse after the left edge of the screen. The behaviour
seems to be inentional (except it shoud work always), related to this
"feature":

http://design.canonical.com/2012/01/launcher-reveal-prototype/

The feature was introduced in the unity-2d 5.7 version as
https://launchpad.net/bugs/765819.

Experimenting with dconf-editor shows that setting
com.canonical.Unity2d.Launcher edge-reveal-presure to 0 makes the auto
hide behavoiur to work more or less similiar as before.

Introducing the new reveal behavoiur without easy way to achieve the old
behavoiur makes realy bad experience from users point of view. It looks
like something which worked good before is broken after upgrade.

[Bug 810732] Re: Netatalk shows kernel panic in syslog when trying to connect to server in OS X 10.6.8. Worked fine before upgrade to ocelot

2012-02-06 Thread Radoslaw Ejsmont
I have run into exactly the same issue, yet I have a different
workaround. Since I am using centralized LDAP user database I had to use
uams_dhx2_pam.so. I have figured out, that disabling pam module for
Samba password sync fixed the issue. I have created copies of common-
auth (common-auth-nosmb) and common-password (common-password-nosmb)
that lack pam_smbpass.so lines and included them in /etc/pam.d/netatalk:

#%PAM-1.0

@include common-auth-nosmb
@include common-account
@include common-password-nosmb
@include common-session

This has fixed the problem.

[Bug 464710] Re: LiveCD freeze

2010-05-12 Thread Radoslaw Korzeniewski
This workaround works like a charm. I've successfully installed Ubuntu
10.04 on Dell Optiplex 740. After install you don't need to workaround
this bug (mem=1G), and all memory is available.

[Bug 464710] Re: LiveCD freeze

2010-05-06 Thread Radoslaw Korzeniewski
The same behavior with Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 and all cd iso flavour (desktop,
alternate, server).
First observation, I can successfully boot Ubuntu 10.04 i386 version on Dell
Optiplex 740 with BIOS 1.2.2. Second observation, while bootloader run you can
press F6 to edit boot options, next if you completely clear all boot options
you will be able to successfully boot Linux kernel. Clearing kernel options
instantly lead to kernel panic - no rootfs available, which is expected. If you
provide any valid kernel boot options (eg. initrd= ...) then you get blank
screen and boot freeze without any boot messages.

[Bug 287577] Re: emacs22-gtk freezes gnome when using Alt-tab and Assistive Technologies are enabled

2009-05-09 Thread Radoslaw Grzanka
I confirm that. Specifically I confirm what jcoffland says. It merely requires
moving focus out of the emacs to (i.e.) firefox.
It is most annoying.

Sometimes system freezes like for 10-15 seconds and sometimes it freezes
to a point it requires kill from text console.

[Bug 41272] Re: [FGLRX] kernel drivers kills USB subsystem

2006-06-15 Thread Radoslaw Kolodziej
I have the same issue on Toshiba Satellite L20-182 (basically, it's the same as
L20-183, it just has got less RAM and smaller HDD, AFAIK). I can't shutdown my
laptop normally, lsusb doesn't work, re-pluging the mouse (Logitech BT 58 OEM
optical mouse) doesn't help (the computer doesn't even provide power for the
mouse, it's red light is off), my pendrive doesn't work either.
However, graphics acceleration seem to work flawlessly.
