[Bug 1245213] [NEW] Wine doesn't find 32-bit OpenGL drivers

2013-10-27 Thread Radu
Public bug reported:

Wine doesn't find the 32-bit opengl drivers on a 64bit system. I have
to use LD_PRELOAD to tell where the 32-bit opengl libs are, like this:

$ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/nvidia-319-updates/libGL.so wine exefile.exe

If I don't use this, I get this:

X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo Direct rendering is disabled, most likely
your 32-bit OpenGL drivers haven't been installed correctly (using GL
renderer "GeForce 8800 GT/PCIe/SSE2", version "1.4 (2.1.2 NVIDIA
319.32)")

Here's the needed info:
1)
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS
Release:12.04

2)
$ apt-cache policy nvidia-319-updates
nvidia-319-updates:
  Installed: 319.32-0ubuntu0.0.1
  Candidate: 319.32-0ubuntu0.0.1
  Version table:
 *** 319.32-0ubuntu0.0.1 0
500 http://ftp.astral.ro/mirrors/ubuntu.com/ubuntu/
precise-updates/restricted amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3)
I expected the 32-bit opengl to be automatically loaded and the application to
work

4)
The app never loaded, and I found this in the output:

err:winediag:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo Direct rendering is disabled, most
likely your 32-bit OpenGL drivers haven't been installed correctly (using GL
renderer "GeForce 8800 GT/PCIe/SSE2", version "1.4 (2.1.2 NVIDIA 319.32)").
err:d3d:WineD3D_CreateFakeGLContext Failed to find a suitable pixel format.
err:d3d:wined3d_adapter_init Failed to get a GL context for adapter 0x1794f8.
err:d3d:WineD3D_CreateFakeGLContext Failed to find a suitable pixel format.
err:d3d:wined3d_adapter_init Failed to get a GL context for adapter 0x1794f8.

I found another bug, #764200, that was opened against Natty, and
expired.

I later hit the same with the 4.15.0-20 kernel. I think something got
messed up either with grub or the initramfs. We can close this.

[Bug 1774865] Re: 4.15.0-22 won't boot on Dell XPS 15 9570

2018-06-04 Thread Radu
Thanks! Leaving some notes in case someone else runs into this and finds
this page. I was having some problems with bumblebee (installation would
hang, then the whole system would freeze when trying to reboot), and I
think that broke something. I assumed it was the kernel because it was
the first time booting that version and it seemed like a very serious
error that happened very early in the boot process. I reinstalled (this
was Linux Mint 19 beta) and stayed away from bumblebee and I had no
problems (the kernel works fine).

[Bug 46966] Re: Burning dvd succedes, but can't read disk afterwards

2007-12-16 Thread radu
I had the same issue trying to burn an ISO image to DVD-R.

growisofs and cdrecord both failed to produce a proper DVD

cdrtools (10:2.01.01a33-0ubuntu2)
dvd+rw-tools (7.0-7)

cdrskin worked perfectly however.

using readcd, i found that the images burned to the drive were the right
size:

-rw-r--r-- 1 radu radu 3709665280 Dec 16 03:03 sol-nv-b77-x86-dvd.iso (the
original image)
-rw-r--r-- 1 radu radu 3709665280 Dec 16 03:21 sol-nv-b77-x86-dvd.iso.2 (the
DVD dump from readcd)
-rw-r--r-- 1 radu radu 3709665280 Dec 16 03:24 sol-nv-b77-x86-dvd.iso.3
(another readcd dump from another DVD coasted by cdrecord)

however, they had extra bytes prepended:

% head -1 sol-nv-b77-x86-dvd.iso
CD001Solaris SOL_11_X86 f@@^"¨¨k

% head -1 sol-nv-b77-x86-dvd.iso.2
*# # *CD001Solaris SOL_11_X86
f@@^"¨¨k

The ends are all 0'd out, so I can't tell a difference there, but it appears
like the 6 bytes at the beginning are to blame. The image has the right size,
so I'm assuming six bytes are skipped at the end, but I don't have time to
check now.

[Bug 505443] [NEW] grub2 parameters not set

2010-01-10 Thread Radu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: startupmanager

When using grub2, the "Show boot splash", "Show text during boot" options do
not work.
grub.cfg still contains "quiet" "splash" options after checking boxes being
checked/unchecked.
Also there is no way to tell grub to use normal text console instead of
graphics.
Maybe this can be included under bootloader menu resolution.

[Bug 200812] [NEW] wifi not working on upgrade 7.10 -> Hardy alpha 5

2008-03-10 Thread Radu I
Public bug reported:

I've upgraded from 7.10 to Hardy alpha 5. just before finishing to
install it crashed with a message "system left in unstable state"
(before cleaning up).

I've rebooted, it worked ok, but there are no restricted drivers installed, so
the wifi is not working.
(wifi was automatically recognized in 7.10)

since then I've upgraded to alpha 6 (and installed all the updates).

the system is a laptop, HP compaq nc2400 (uses ipw3945 driver for wifi).

Thanks.

[Bug 272733] [NEW] Intel G45 X4500HD bug

2008-09-21 Thread Radu Stanca
Public bug reported:

(sorry for the bad english)

Trying run Alpha 6 on my new ASUS motherboard with Intel G45 X4500HD
chipset, I'm using a VGA output, after KDM login the screen freezes and
it looks like the X server is trying to restart, the keyboard seems
locked so I have to hard reboot. Tested with amd64 and i386 versions.
With VESA driver it works

I attached the Xorg.log files I found in my /var/log directory

I installed the xserver-xorg-intel-dbg packages but the output in the
log file it's the same, maybe I have to do something else to enable the
debug symbols?

I have the same issue with a ProBook 455 G2
(http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201404-14968/) on a fresh
14.04 install, on 14.04 update 14.10 and on a fresh 15.04 (beta 2)

I can also confirm that @Dekker500 workaround from

@Joseph Salisbury (jsalisbury). If it helps, I just installed the latest beta
of Vivid with kernel 3.19.0-10-generic (64 bit), and the problem still persist.

[Bug 1033034] Re: Setting the desktop background from cron no longer updates the desktop background

2013-10-29 Thread Radu Rădeanu
The croc will change the desktop background if you add in your script
before `gsettings` the following lines/commands:

PID=$(pgrep gnome-session)
export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=$(grep -z DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
/proc/$PID/environ|cut -d= -f2-)

You will not need anymore to use in your crontab rule `DISPLAY=:0`.

[Bug 958174] Re: Wireless Mouse not registered on Startup or Reboot

2013-05-15 Thread Radu Cadariu
running Ubuntu 12.04, upgraded kernel from 3.2.x to 3.5.0-28-generic
just to recover the Logitech Anywhere MX mouse which stopped working,
after (maybe) 2 years of Ubuntu 10.04, then switched to 12.04, where it
still worked good.

- The unified receiver is detected

to check/confirm]

sudo ltunify list

[Bug 903302] Re: Dialog windows are not turning modal anyway

2012-10-24 Thread Zicu Radu
Confirm this bug:

When I create a custom dialog in GTK (both, GTK2 or GTK3) and set it to
be modal, all input to other windows of my application is ignored. This
works nearly always, but it fails under certain conditions.

When I add a ScrolledWindow containing a TreeView to my dialog, it still
works as supposed. But if I fill the TreeView with entries until the
ScrolledWindow starts to display its scroll bars --- the modality is
suddenly lost and I can click on my other windows!

[Bug 986722] Re: Can't browse MTP device starting with Android 4 (e.g. Galaxy Nexus) with gmtp

2012-11-12 Thread Bogdan Radu
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 903422 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903422

Confirmed with 12.10, newest update.
mtp-files, mtp-folders, mtp-detect take abnormally long to work, and you can't
browse anywhere in the GUI itself, as the device just times out.

gmtp also takes forever, and times out/errors out or produces garbage
before disconnecting.

Can we get some traction on this, seeing as many people are running into
this snag (this was brought to my attention by a co-worker who's just
trying Ubuntu for the first time).

This is affecting real people, and it is a dealbreaker for him.

[Bug 1001569] [NEW] music through Bluetooth connection not playing

2012-05-19 Thread Radu Lazarica
Public bug reported:

I've just installed the new Ubuntu, 12.04. And I'm trying to listen some
of music from my phone through Bluetooth connection, on the laptop
speakers. The connection its established, the devices are paired, i push
the play button on the phone, and it doesn't work. On the phone the
music is rolling, but on the laptop speakers nothing comes out, not even
a sound. And another problem: i can transfer files from the laptop to
the phone, but from phone to laptop its not working. What should I do?
