I am getting this crash on all of my systems: Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS. Most times, I send the crash report to Ubuntu. They must be getting hundreds of these reports a day! Thank you for taking the time to explain. I better understand what happened. However, we are mostly guessing here as to what the real problem was. If I run into a similar problem again, I will do a diff of the pages received by both browsers to see if the web site is actually doing something different. Ultimately, though I suspect you are both right about this problem. The financial institution should be supporting Linux better. If I run into this again, I will try to escalate the problem with the bank so it gets fixed. Otherwise, I will move to another bank. The new standard looses its effectiveness until major browsers catch up. Comment #3 was posted 9 months afterwards. It has been so long, I don't remember if I tried Comment #3's suggestion or not. What I do remember is the frustration that I had with Firefox on Linux while this 'bug' on the site's page was able to work with Firefox on WinXP. Why is Mozilla treating Linux with a lower priority than MS? Shouldn't us users be able to expect that browsers have the same behavior across platforms? When the browser behaviors start to drift, is it unreasonable to expect that the browser with the worst user experience be the one to get fixed? Did you notice that the problem worked fine in other Linux browsers but not in Firefox? What does that do for Firefox's market share? The current web standards have flaws which allow for interpretation. Isn't it also important to make a browser compatible to the de facto standards as interpreted by most other browsers? Your attitude is what drew me away from Firefox. I was almost willing to give Firefox another try. However, if Mozilla has attitudes like yours, I don't want to waste my time. Two and a half years later and now I can use Firefox 18.0.2 running on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS to login to CitiCards! This bug had prevented anyone from using Linux Firefox to access a large financial institution's site. This bug should have been given a higher priority by Mozilla at the time I opened it. The lack of response from Mozilla had caused me to give up on using Firefox entirely. I guess the only positive thing about this bug is that Mozilla kept it on the books. Maybe I'll try using Firefox again. I fully agree with Adam. In addition, I feel his argument is at the crux of an inerrant problem with the decisions that Kubuntu 4.x development made in general. Why rewrite most applications that worked great to begin with? The new releases of Kubuntu applications have broken or missing functionality from the old releases. Had the Kubuntu developers kept the core of each 3.x app and made each work with the additional (not replaced) look and feel of 4.x, then at least users would not have been baited and switched out of comfortable features and structurally important functionality that worked fine in 3.x. ... but I digress ... For the wheel to have been improved over the years, it had to first keep its round shape; the most basic feature. I've had it with Kubuntu developers. They break previously working functions, ignore the impact of their actions on the community and add unnecessary puff to applications. I've pulled Kubuntu from all of my systems. Better if the Kubuntu developers go work for Microsoft where they can be appreciated for the poor quality and unresponsiveness to customer complaints. I have tested Christian's technique of updating kdevappwizard's copy of ltmain.sh and can now create new C++ projects that build properly.
