[Bug 1796140] Re: Printers are added automatically, even after they are deleted
Same happens to me plus that I want to install a local(USB) printer but ubuntu only shows network printers which are added automatically and doesn't show usb printers connected locally.. Ubuntu use to be very good before with printing. but it's all messed up since the last 3 upgrades I'm having this same problem wich doesn't seem to be given attention. I tried all fixes found online and none of them worked for me, enven disabling avahi completely but the USB printers doesn't show up either. this it was said this should be a feature we turn on/off and not a setting that can't be resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1796140 Title: Printers are added automatically, even after they are deleted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1796140/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 424139] [NEW] drag and drop from banshee to brasero causes segmentation fault
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero On Ubuntu 9.04 while making a standard audio CD, I dragged and dropped a song from my Music Library in Banshee to the Audio Disc Project window in Brasero hoping it would add it to the project like Rhythmbox does. Instead Brasero crashed with a segmentation fault (visible in terminal). Ideally it should not crash and the song should be added to the Brasero project, but if it does crash it would be nice if the project would not be lost. Maybe this could be accomplished by saving to a temporary file after the addition of each song. "...how long to wait for the bug to arise?" I did not measure it, but about a minute seems to consistently reproduce the behavior for me using Pacman which, as you stated, is not a default screensaver. Regarding the hardware, could it be related to using a USB mouse vs. a PS/2 mouse? I am using a USB mouse but I would think that would be abstracted to the screensaver. Awe, oh well. I'm not sure I am convinced it is hardware specific. People with nvidia, ati, and intel drivers have all reported it in the comments. [Bug 253504] Re: adding "sudo" before command in launcher in gnome panel freezes X session
Hello, The old server I originally encountered this issue finally succumbed to age and is no more. Since then, I have built a new server. I tried to reproduce this issue on both my desktop and my server. The desktop is running a fresh install of 9.04 and I am not able to reproduce the issue there. The sudo process does not even appear in top or in gnome system monitor which is not the expected behavior (but is desirable I suppose). The desktop does not lock up. This is the same behavior I had on my desktop originally. Very surprisingly though, (or maybe not) I am still able to reproduce the issue on my server which is running Ubuntu Server 9.04 64-bit with X and gnome installed. The original problem was also on the server version of Ubuntu. Maybe that is why people recommend not running X on a server? :) It's a little different now in that I am able to switch to a VT via CTRL+ALT+Fn, login, kill the process, etc. whereas before this did not work. Alright, I'm back. I had to reinstall 8.10. Before I reinstalled: I disabled the PPAs, downgraded the packages, added the crimsun PPA, upgraded, no change. Removed the PPA and downgraded again. Added the themuso PPA, upgraded, no change. Rebooted. Then I couldn't login. I do not recall the exact error message (I should have written it down) but it was something about being unable to find a file related to pulseaudio. So, now I'm on a fresh install of 8.10. At first, I had no sound at all. Changed from AutoDetect to Audigy 1...(ALSA) and I also had to uncheck the "Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack" switch in the volume control. [Bug 291861] Re: No sound when using Flash player (i.e. youtube.com, jamendo.com)
I have libasound2-plugins already installed. I tried reinstalling and rebooting but had the same behavior. I tried an old deb of libflashsupport I found from here: http://www.derekhildreth.com/blog/how-to-fix-the-no-sound-issue-in- firefox-flash/ which I got from a Ubuntu forums post http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=966630&highlight=flash+sound Others in that thread seemed to have the same problem and the libflashsupport package fixed the issue for them so I was hopeful. However, after I installed it, youtube told me I had an old version of the flash player and would not play videos. I then tried installing the adobe-flashplugin deb directly from Adobe and had the same result as I had with libflashsupport. The update manager wanted to update that package, "adobe-flashplugin", so I did. The video played but still no sound. Finally, I tried flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound...same result: video with no sound. Between each step I uninstalled whatever I had just installed and restarted my browser completely. Is there any information, such as log files I could provide that would be of use? [Bug 253504] Re: adding "sudo" before command in launcher in gnome panel freezes X session
Well, I saw the notification in the panel that some updates were available. I noticed one of them was for gnome-panel (and other packages). I thought "why not?" and installed them. I then tried to reproduce the issue. Having a sudo before the command in a launcher is no longer locking up the X session! Instead, it opens the tool with root access. I was surprised. However, it never prompted me for a password. Is this because I had already specified it when I ran the Update Manager tool? I tried logging out and back in to see if that would "reset" it, but I still was not prompted by the launcher. However, attempting to execute the same command from the terminal did prompt me to enter my password. I was able to execute "sudo gnome-terminal" from a launcher on my panel, it opened a terminal with root@ and I indeed had root access (tried to write some files in other users' home directories). I am completely confused now. Is this the expected behavior? Should the user not be prompted for a password when running a command prefixed by sudo from a launcher in a panel or is this working by chance because I performed a system update right before the test? -- adding "sudo" before command in launcher in gnome panel freezes X session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/253504 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I was able to reproduce the issue by adding "sudo" before my "gnome- terminal" launcher as well. I was actually hoping I would not be able to reproduce the issue :) The animation did not get stuck this time but the keyboard became unresponsive again. When I SSHed into the machine the sudo process was occupying 100% of the CPU according to "top". I wasn't expecting that. Killing the sudo process did not make the keyboard start working again. I had to kill xinit at which point I plopped back to a terminal and everything was fine again. Second time I tried it, I killed sudo, killed xinit and all the gnome panels and desktop icons disappeared but I could still see my desktop background image. At this point CTRL+ALT+Backspace worked and I was back the terminal. This seems strange. The only thing I have noticed in the logs that seems out of the ordinary was this line in syslog which appears after I type "startx": Jul 31 22:41:25 console-kit-daemon[6278]: WARNING: Unable to activate console: No such device or address Maybe that is normal. I looked in /var/log/messages and only saw entries for when I pushed buttons on my KMV switch (for disconnecting and connecting USB devices). /var/log/syslog only had some info about cron jobs which I did not create so they must be setup default. If the mouse was still moving, but the keyboard and screen were not working, could it be a bug in X or compiz? [Bug 253504] [NEW] adding "sudo" before command in launcher in gnome panel freezes X session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I am using 8.04.1 Server with X and gnome installed. I have a launcher on one of my gnome panels for "gnome-system-monitor". I wanted to run it with root privileges so I added "sudo" before the command (I did not know I should have been using "gksudo"). When I clicked the launcher, my entire X session froze and was not responsive to the keyboard. I was unable to switch to another terminal via CTRL+ALT+Fn or kill X via CTRL+ALT+Backspace so I had to ssh in from another machine and kill X and that bash session after which the affected machine became responsive to the keyboard again. I was also able to "startx" again with no problem. I have not tried to reproduce the issue for fear having to reboot the machine (it is old hardware and sometimes takes a while for the BIOS to pass the POST). I can try though if required for gathering logs, etc. I would not expect a launcher for "sudo gnome-system-monitor" to work as "gksudo gnome-system-monitor", but it should not freeze the system. If I did not have another computer I would have had to reboot. Let me know if more information is required. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- adding "sudo" before command in launcher in gnome panel freezes X session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/253504 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 32178] Re: Installer couldn't mount NTFS partitions.
Hello, I also experience this bug and found a work-around on the ubuntu forums. If you try to mount it as a "top-level" location, it will not work. However, mounting under another existing location worked. For example: setting mount to "/windows" did not work but setting mount to "/media/windows" did work. -- Installer couldn't mount NTFS partitions. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32178 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 154596] Re: No window decorations using compiz fusion after creating new user
Pedro, Thanks for getting back to me on this. I have since reverted back to Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. [Bug 154596] Re: No window decorations using compiz fusion after creating new user
ilikeyoureyes, the screenshot is not the same issue I am experiencing. In my case, there are no window decorations at all (not even a blank border). I have done some more testing and it appears that the issue is not actually related to creating a new user as I originally thought but is actually triggered by changing resolutions. I reinstalled to try and reproduce the scenario but I could not at first. Then I changed the resolution from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 and my window decorations disappeared. I now recall that I did this in my original install as well. I must have done it at some point that made it seem like adding the new user caused the problem. Has anyone else changed the default resolution either before or after enabling visual effects? -- No window decorations using compiz fusion after creating new user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154596 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 154596] Re: No window decorations using compiz fusion after creating new user
Here's some more information. Installing xserver-xgl is not a permanent solution. The window decorations disappear after switching users multiple times. This problem has been resolved by installing the xserver-xgl package. [Bug 154596] No window decorations using compiz fusion after creating new user
Public bug reported: I performed a clean install of Ubuntu 7.10. I added a new user with non-administrator privileges, but I remained logged in as an admin user. I enabled restricted drivers for my NVIDIA video card and restarted the computer. The video card is a GeForce4. I logged in using the same account created during installation of the OS (not the new one created) and enabled "Normal" Visual Effects using the Appearance Preferences tool. At this point everything was working correctly and looked very nice. I logged out of the admin account and logged in as a non-admin user. I noticed that any windows I opened were missing the Title bar and the min/max/close buttons and could not be moved. I logged out of the non- admin account and back into the admin account. The window decorations were no longer appearing there either. The window decorations were restored upon selecting "None" in the Visual Effects tab of the Appearance Preferences tool, but of course this disabled all visual effects. Trying to reapply "Normal" Visual Effects once again remove the window decorations. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: compiz gutsy -- No window decorations using compiz fusion after creating new user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154596 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
