[Bug 726790] Re: python-vm-builder-0.12.4+bzr462-0ubuntu1: swap partitions fail to be created properly when "lucid" is the target
I moved the ticket status back to "New". I've actually been wondering, is it appropriate for me to alter the ticket state back to new after I provide the requested information, or would it have been better if I left it at "Incomplete"? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726790 Title: python-vm-builder-0.12.4+bzr462-0ubuntu1: swap partitions fail to be created properly when "lucid" is the target -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 726790] Re: python-vm-builder-0.12.4+bzr462-0ubuntu1: swap partitions fail to be created properly when "lucid" is the target
I am attaching a build script that uses a partitions file to demonstrate the issue. When you run this script, the traceback that I listed doesn't occur (not sure why). However, the built machine does still complain about /dev/sda2, and you can verify that it does not have swap. ** Attachment added: "A script to demonstrate the issue" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vm-builder/+bug/726790/+attachment/1879353/+files/make_kvm_image.sh -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726790 Title: python-vm-builder-0.12.4+bzr462-0ubuntu1: swap partitions fail to be created properly when "lucid" is the target -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I just updated this morning (Maverick Beta!) and then tried it, and virt-manager crashed again. I'm using version 0.8.4-3ubuntu6. If there's any additional data I can provide, let me know. [Bug 574588] [NEW] The --nocache flag for qemu-nbd doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: qemu-kvm If I try to attach a disk image using qemu-kvm to a network block device, it will not work if I use the --nocache flag. Here is an example: $ qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd7 --nocache whowho.qcow2 $ ls /dev/nbd7* /dev/nbd7 If you look in dmesg, there aren't any mentions of the above commands. However, this works: $ sudo qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd7 whowho.qcow2 $ ls /dev/nbd7* /dev/nbd7 /dev/nbd7p1 /dev/nbd7p2 And in dmesg, I see this: [ 8489.904028] nbd7: p1 p2 The latter command doesn't actually always work. Sometimes it just takes several tries. When it doesn't work, there are no error messages or any mention in the logs about it not working. It would be nice if it would give some more info about what is happening. [Bug 539231] Re: -t option isn't available in python-vm-builder 0.12.2-0ubuntu3
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 536940 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/536940 If I may, I'd like to contend that this is not a duplicate of bug #536940. That ticket is about having a --tmpfs flag that will allow us to indicate that we wish the VM to be built in a tmpfs. That ticket is also marked as a wishlist item. This ticket is about having a flag that allows us to specify a path at which we would like the VM to be built. The -t flag can be used to build in tmpfs, but it can also be used to build in /home or wherever else I would like. What if my system had a small /tmp partition, but I had space somewhere else? Also, this flag should be a good bit simpler to implement that --tmpfs. Can we please have both flags? If not, I'd prefer this one over --tmpfs, personally. [Bug 539938] [NEW] Xorg crashed, not sure why, during screensaver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Unfortunately, I don't know what happened. I was away from my computer for a while, and so the screen saver came on. [Bug 536942] Re: --firstboot option broken in 0.12.2-0ubuntu3
Hey John! I haven't made any workaround yet, but I was considering something that sounds more complicated than I like. You could make an init script that does the first boot work, removes itself from the default run level, and then removes itself. There isn't a builtin first boot functionality to Ubuntu that I've been able to find, but if anybody knows of something like that I'd love to know as well! -- --firstboot option broken in 0.12.2-0ubuntu3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/536942 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 539231] [NEW] -t option isn't available in python-vm-builder 0.12.2-0ubuntu3
Public bug reported: The version of python-vm-builder that came with Karmic had a -t flag that you could use to specify where the VM should be built. This was handy, as it allowed me to build the VM on a tmpfs that I mounted manually (since the --tmpfs flag didn't work). This flag isn't accepted by the new version that comes with Lucid, and there doesn't seem to be any replacement for its functionality. ** Affects: vm-builder (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- -t option isn't available in python-vm-builder 0.12.2-0ubuntu3 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539231 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Is this something that is likely to be fixed before Lucid goes stable? I ask mostly because if not, I'd like to change the way a series of my scripts work, and it'd be nice to know that ahead of time. [Bug 512316] [NEW] --tmpfs flag doesn't do anything on vm-builder
Public bug reported: I've been using vm-builder for a while. It's super cool, but it looks to me like the --tmpfs option doesn't actually do anything. When I grep for tmpfs in /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/VMBuilder, I only see one file, and all it is doing is adding the --tmpfs option. I couldn't find anything in there that was checking to see if that option had been passed or not, so it seems to not make much of a difference. Also, it definitely is creating files in /tmp when it is building my vms. Am I missing something? ** Affects: vm-builder (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- --tmpfs flag doesn't do anything on vm-builder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/512316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 495627] Re: Dell E6500 unable to use native resolution (monitor doesn't support reduced blanking)
Short story: So I'm an idiot. We can close this ticket. It turns out that my laptop's native resolution is 1280x800. Longer story: I had assumed I had the higher resolution, because this is a company issued laptop, and we ordered several of the same device. My coworkers all use Windows, and I'm the loner Ubuntu guy. We just got these, and I found out that one of my coworker's machines was running at 1920x1200. It turns out that Dell must have shipped us different displays on our machines, so I will take it up with them. [Bug 495627] [NEW] Dell E6500 unable to use native resolution (monitor doesn't support reduced blanking)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I sincerely apologize if this is a duplicate. I didn't see any bug reports that directly dealt with the "monitor doesn't support reduced blanking" problem on my specific Intel chipset. I tried the "nomodeline" kernel boot parameter trick, as I found in another bug report, and I still was unable to use my laptop's native resolution (1920x1200). I noticed in the Xorg log that the reduced blanking message appeared next to the mode I would like to use, which is why I think this may be the most relevant clue to the problem. This is a brand new laptop, and I haven't really got a lot invested in it yet, so I'm currently attempting a dist-upgrade to Lucid to see if the newer kernel, etc. will solve my problem or not. It would be good to know if this problem has already been fixed, for the purposes of assigning importance to this report. I'd be happy to provide any additional information I can!
