[Bug 692178] [NEW] Changing status from offline to available is not integrated well to notification area

2010-12-19 Thread Raphael Jolivet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

This is an ergonomic problem.

It is not possible to change the status from offline to available directly
from the notification area menu.
You have to select Instant messaging first in the messages menu (envelope
icon ) : By the way, this is already counter intuitive, as everything about
instant messaging should be in the instant messaging menu (speach bubble
icon).. right ?.

So this shows empathy itself, then you can set the status to available
from there.

In all other cases, You don't need to show empathy itself.
You can just change your status from the quick menu.

I think this should become consistent.

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 157165] Re: [needs-packaging] Oracle DBXML

2010-04-22 Thread Raphael Jolivet
Up.

Berkeley DB XML is a really nice piece of software that deserves a better
visibility.
I think that having an official package in Ubuntu would help it to be widely
adopted.

I would really like to have the PHP mod packaged as well.
It's time we move from SQL-based database to more flexible solutions for web
sites development.

As per the official build guide
(http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/xml/ref_xml/xml_unix/intro.html)
 :
The Berkeley DB XML distribution comprises several libraries: a base C++
library, three third-party libraries, and optional libraries for additional
language interfaces such as Java, Perl, Python, PHP, and Tcl.

So I guess this could be split into 5 different packages :
* berkeley-xmldb
* berkeley-xmldb-java
* berkeley-xmldb-php
* berkeley-xmldb-python
* berkeley-xmldb-tcl

The third party libraries (libdb, qxilla, libxerces) being already
distributed in ubuntu.

Thanks for considering this request.

[Bug 478412] [NEW] Unable to launch commands with white space in it

2009-11-08 Thread Raphael Jolivet
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

I have installed a third party applicationwhich had the good idea to name their
binary with a space in it.
When I try to launch it via the deskbar Applet, it finds it corectly (and
displays the space), but it is unable to execute it.

I get something like (I have it in french actually) :
Unable to execute the program : 'foo bar'

How to reproduce
==

1) Create a dummy foo bar program
 cd /usr/bin
 sudo echo echo hello foo bar
 sudo chmod +x foo bar

2) Try to launch it via the deskbar applet.
