The patch works for me, also. @Simos: In your install instructions the apt-get line didn't work, so I used dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video*deb to install the packages instead, and that seemed to work, although the dbg packages needed to pull in some additional deps, but it was fine. $ sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video*deb $ sudo apt-get install -f worked for me. ** Attachment added: Screenshot from 2013-07-12 23:55:16.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1195425/+attachment/3735280/+files/Screenshot%20from%202013-07-12%2023%3A55%3A16.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1195425 Title: Corrupted screen using radeon drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1195425/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I've tried 1080p monitors on my laptop, HDTV, and my secondary desktop monitor, and my laptop is profoundly faster than my desktop. I understand that it is to be expected as my laptop has a faster card and 2x the VRAM, but the difference in performance seems too much. CPU usage is low, I think the bottleneck is how the GPU is used. Results from radeontop: When the dash opens, Graphics Pipe usage shoots up to 92%. Just typing in the app lens (or any other lens) causes my graphics pipe usage to sustain at 80~95%, even when the only things in the dash are my text and sorry there are no applications that match your search. Also, the unity preview animations are slow and again cause the gpu usage to skyrocket. Furthermore, moving windows, maximize/minimize all are fast, the only slowness is with the switcher and the dash. For me, the following workaround worked on both my systems (ATI fglrx driver, AMD Radeon HD 2600XT, AMD RadeonHD 4600 on fglrx) I am using the fglrx-legacy ppa, but it will likely work on newer drivers. 1. Install compizconfig-settings-manager. 2. Launch compizconfig settings manager (ccsm) 3. Go to OpenGL, disable Sync to VBlank 4. Go to Workarounds, enable Don't wait for video sync 5. Run the AMD Catalyst Control Center (amdcccle) 6. Go to Display OptionsTear Free on the left panel; enable Tear-Free desktop, click Apply. 7. Go to 3DMore Settings. Under Wait for Vertical Refresh, set it to 'Off unless application specifies.', click Apply. 8. Click 'Ok'. 9. Log out and log back in. You can confirm the workaround by opening a terminal window, typing 'top' and pressing enter, then opening up another application and moving it around as suggested by shayne. I am getting about 11% CPU usage in top whilst moving windows, vs about 89-95% before the workaround, and am not seeing any tearing. In light of this, would it be possible to somehow force the correct ABI version with the new XServer legacy fglrx driver? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058040 Title: fglrx-installer does not support HD2000-4000 legacy cards To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1058040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 47793] Re: DRI module load fails (undefined symbol: _glapi_Dispatch)
Had the same problem on Quantal Quetzal (beta, x86_64). DRI modules would not load. In my case it was r600_dri.so I found the modules in: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri That directory is not on the path searched by libgl when it tries to load the modules. I solved it by symlinking: ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/r600_dri.so /usr/lib/dri/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47793 Title: DRI module load fails (undefined symbol: _glapi_Dispatch) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/47793/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu
Okay, so I tried messing around with some options, and here's something that worked for me (on fglrx driver): - The problem goes away when I turn off Sync to VBlank (ccsm, OpenGL section). I don't remember having the high CPU usage while idle, but I did have the usage spikes while dragging windows. On my desktop (Radeon 2600XT), and my laptop (Radeon 4670), turning off Sync to VBlank dropped compiz's CPU usage while dragging windows from 25-70% to around 3-9%. I found the following workaround to be effective for me on both my desktop and laptop to both get rid of the tearing, and : (requires proprietary ATi drivers.) 1. Turn off Sync to VBlank in ccsm. 2. Open up the Catalyst control center, (command: amdcccle) 3. Turn TearFree Desktop on (it's under Display Options) 4. Change the Wait for vertical refresh setting to On, unless application specifies. (I had issues with compiz starting up, and changing that fixed it.) The result will be: compiz running with acceptable CPU usage and no tearing. The only side effect I've noticed is that sometimes while moving windows very rapidly, the cursor will jump and the little hand will become separated from the window it is dragging. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/803943 Title: compiz consuming a lot of cpu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/803943/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu
About my previous comment.. For some reason I thought I had installed fglrx on this machine; but it would appear that it is not the case. So the solution in comment #178 may not work.
I had some success by opening up CompizConfig Settings Manager (Alt+F2, ccsm assuming you have it installed.) and enabling copy to texture I noticed the CPU usage on my machine dropped from a hard 10% to about 2% even with programs open. I still find it odd that compiz's CPU usage spikes when I drag windows or sometimes when I have smooth animations in windows despite having the fglrx drivers installed, since it's supposed to be hardware accelerated. Leads me to believe that something is causing it to do more work than it should on the software side.
