[Bug 1726516] Re: no progress bar while copying files
Reproduction and unexpected user experience details: * In a nautilus window, navigate to a folder that contains a source folder of large files (e.g., video or pictures) that is sufficient to trigger the copy progress indicator. * Create two `test1` and `test2` folders on the Desktop * In a new nautilus window, open the Desktop folder. At this point, one should see `test1` and `test2` folders on the desktop and in the Desktop folder in the nautilus window. * Copy the source data to `test1` by dragging and dropping in the nautilus window. The copy progress pie chart in the nautilus window should appear. (Okay to cancel the copy once the indicator appears.) * Repeat the copy, this time dragging the source folder to `test2` on the Desktop (*not* in the nautilus window). On my system (ubuntu 18.10), the progress indicator never appears. Many reports have focused on the inconspicuousness of the progress indicator; I concur with that observation. However, I am more perplexed by the inconsistency in behavior when copying to folders on the desktop versus copying to the Desktop folder within a nautilus window. This behavior seems inconsistent to me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726516 Title: no progress bar while copying files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1726516/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1522177] Re: nautilus sporadically very slow to start/refresh
Figured this out. Closing. Cause: I had intentionally put my home directory under mercurial, primarily to track config files. .hgignore ignored everything. [Bug 1522177] [NEW] nautilus sporadically very slow to start/refresh
Public bug reported: System: Ubuntu 15.10, x86_64, SSD drive Nautilus is sporadically extremely slow to start up or refresh a view even when already running. The effect is bimodal: response is either nearly immediate or extremely slow. For example, "nautilus ~/" is either immediately responsive or takes ~10 seconds. The behavior is independent of directory and invocation method; for example, invoking via Unity Dash or Chrome's "show in folder" exhibits similar bimodal responsiveness. The bimodal switch seems to be related to a combination of when the directory was last read (likely a cache effect) and whether the directory had been modified (e.g., perhaps based on directory mtime). The attached script and output demonstrate the effect on my laptop. It executes "nautilus ~/" ten times, with sleep times of 0-5 seconds between each. The data suggest that the bimodal switch due to a putative cache timeout is ~5 seconds. That is, *all* invocations separated by more that 5 seconds exhibit the slow mode responsiveness. This is consistent with my experience, namely that nautilus startup is *always* slow because real-world use invocations are always more than 5 seconds apart. Access to the same directories in the terminal are never slow. I am not aware of any general filesystem sluggishness (e.g., with libreoffice, emacs, etc). ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "nautilus invocation timings" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522177/+attachment/4528782/+files/nautilus-timing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522177 Title: nautilus sporadically very slow to start/refresh To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1522177/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1295267] Re: Windows change Monitor/Desktop after screen lock
Follow to my earlier comment (#10): - Windows move after screen lock + time. (Just screen lock isn't enough.) It's possible that screen blanking is the trigger. - Seems to only affect gnome-terminal. [Bug 1295267] Re: Windows change Monitor/Desktop after screen lock
Exactly the same issue here. I've used Ubuntu for years with multiple multi-display setups (one at work, one or two at home). This did not used to be a problem. The first occurrences seemed to coincide with the time I bought a new monitor (and new model) that is 2560x1440. At the same time, I also changed one external monitor config to over-under rather than side-by-side. Possibly related: In #1351982 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1351982), I described a problem in which the panel and indicator bars are occasionally unresponsive to mouse clicks after an unlock. I have not yet identified the trigger event; screenlocking or suspend/resume *may* be related, but not reliably so (i.e., I can't reproduce it this way). Restarting unity-panel-service (killall unity-panel-service) doesn't help. The problem is temporarily fixed by logging out/in or rebooting, but the issue recurs. The timing of the first occurrence (in July) is probably consistent with my first use of unity-tweak-tool to set focus follows mouse, although this hypothesis doesn't explain why the components initially work and then become unresponsive. Otherwise, my config is pretty stock. [Bug 1280874] Re: current date not highlighted/wrong date highlighted
apport bug data sent This is reproducible. Steps: 1) Boot ubuntu. 2) Go to calendar (click indicator-datetime). Select a day in the previous or next month (any day works, but this makes a good example). 3) Click indicator again. The clicked date remains highlighted. The confusion occurs when there is a long duration between 2 and 3: I forget I've clicked and the highlighted day is NOT today. Personally, I don't see any reason to preserve the selected day between drop down events. (As an aside, Launchpad has a big button that says Report a bug. [Bug 1231550] Re: battery status indicator shows 'estimating'
Similar issue here, although I think the cause is different. See attached screenshot. 1) The menu shows estimating... even though the battery is present and charged. Furthermore, none of the other devices have useful information. 2) Note that the menu icon is for a mouse, not a battery. If I unplug power, the indicator icon momentarily shows a full battery. When I plug in again, it switches to a mouse icon. 3) I use 3 mice and 2 keyboards with this laptop. These are Logitech unified devices. I think what we're seeing is that upower reports all mice and keyboards registered with the unified receiver, even if not present. ** Attachment added: Selection_400.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-power/+bug/1231550/+attachment/3911154/+files/Selection_400.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1231550 Title: battery status indicator shows 'estimating' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-power/+bug/1231550/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Data from second laptop. I also have an HP dm4-1173cl with intel HD graphics, running 12.04. It also recognizes the HD20 as OTM 72, but it projects correctly. [Bug 1112859] [NEW] Optoma HD20 projector recognized but no HDMI signal
Public bug reported: Synopsis: I get No Signal and an otherwise blank screen when connecting my Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook running 12.10 to Optoma HD20 projectors (we have two). The projector is recognized as connected. This laptop correctly displays on at least 5 other models of external monitors and projectors over HDMI without issue. Several Macs are known to work fine with these projectors. Hardware Details: The laptop is a Dell XPS Ultrabook (L421X) running 12.10. This laptop has Intel 4000 and NVIDIA 630M graphics, and lsmod shows nouveau and i915 drivers loaded. This model has both HDMI and mini DisplayPort; results are identical for HDMI and the mini DP port (with miniDP-HDMI adapter). The projector is the Optoma HD20. This projector has two HDMI inputs and native 1920x1600 projection. We have two of them, and all behaviors described here are identical for both of them. snafu$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.10 Release:12.10 snafu$ apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 Candidate: 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 Version table: *** 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What I've tried: When I plug the projector into my laptop, the projector is recognized quickly as OTM 72 in Settings Displays, but the projector declares No Signal and has blank display. (Is OTM 72 right?) Xorg.0.log shows frame buffer allocations that seem sensible based on laptop and selected projector resolutions. Clicking Apply leads to the 30s timeout dialog in which the laptop display is fine (i.e., not garbled) but the projector says no signal. Both projectors work fine with Macs. I have tried multiple cable and cable lengths. I have tried multiple resolutions, with and without mirroring. http://harts.net/reece/tmp/optoma-hd20.edid-decode contains the edid info generated by edid-decode /sys/devices/pci\:00/\:00\:02.0/drm/card0/card0-HDMI-A-1/edid . 12.04.1 LTS behaves similarly. Rebooting with the projector connected has the same effect. I've tried the xrandr and gtf suggestions at http://askubuntu.com/questions/216075/no-hdmi-output-on-12-10-intel-hd- graphics-ironlake/249593#249593 without success. Notes: Drag and drop works if the applications are tiled to the left/right of each other, or if they are windowed so it should work when they are full screen. [Bug 868524] Re: Unity easier way to create new instance from launcher without middle mouse button
@Someone: I was replying to Omer Akram's you can report invidual bug for apps you think should have this in their quicklist., not your suggestion. [Bug 655761] Re: [gm45] caps-lock light got inverted meaning
Env: Oneiric, daily updates, Unity My caps lock light is occasionally inverted as well. I typically use an external keyboard. Pressing caps lock on the external keyboard does not toggle the light, but does toggle the caps lock text entry. Therefore, when the indicator meaning is inverted, one can press the caps lock key on the external keyboard to synchronize the indicator and caps lock. I don't know my caps lock indicator becomes inverted. An inadvertently keypress (i.e., human error) is possible, but it happens more often than I might expect for that cause. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/655761 Title: [gm45] caps-lock light got inverted meaning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/655761/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 889145] Re: focus follows mouse breaks desktop interaction
Correction: I pasted the wrong command line to enable FFM. I meant 'gconftool-2 --type string --set /apps/metacity/general/focus_mode mouse'. [Bug 890096] Re: icon text on the desktop is unreadable using a dark/black background
This behaviour is dependent on the graphics driver used and configuration, and there are other associated issues. The system (a laptop) has its own display (A) and is connected to an external display (B) and has an NVidia graphics card. 1. nouveau driver (either or both displays active) Works in this case (text rendered white with a black shadow and is readable in all background configurations); nautilus renders correctly. 2. nvidia without custom Xorg configuration (display A enabled, display B disabled) Works as (1). 3. nvidia with custom Xorg configuration (display A disabled, display B enabled) Displays an error on startup and nautilus and other GTK+3 apps do not use the selected theme (render in a Win9x-style 2.5D theme). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890096 Title: icon text on the desktop is unreadable using a dark/black background To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/890096/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
