[Bug 1853277] Re: Lenovo ThinkBook 14-IML Touchpad not showing up in /proc/bus/input/devices

2020-09-23 Thread Reg Clucas
What is the scope of the fix? I assume of course that it means the
touchpad is now usable, but does it also enable the option for turning
off "tap to click" in Ubuntu Settings? I ask because this option is not
available in the Windows 10 installation that was preinstalled on my
Thinkbook 15 IIL.

[Bug 237941]

2019-03-11 Thread Reg-github
Tested it with 59.0a1 and seems this is still missing. Please add this,
as with years of well organized folder structure, you sometimes don't
know where the matching folder is. Therefore, listing matching folder in
sidebar would be really helpful. Or add a feature to automatically
assign individual bookmark folder tree structure as tags to each
bookmark, please.

[Bug 1781163] Re: okular has lost all functions on menus (not clickable)

2018-07-29 Thread Reg Dodds
I have found a simple fix at last.

Set the compositor renderer to XRender by clicking your way through to the
Compositer that sets it as follows:
KDE Start button ==>
Display and Monitor ==>
Compositor

Now set the rendering backend to anything BUT NOT THE DEFAULT: (OpenGL 3.1,
GLX)
and NOT (OpenGL 2, GLX).

All the other settings work.
(Xrender)
and
(OpenGL 3.1, EGL)
(OpenGL 2, EGL)

I still hope this bug is fixed in the upgrade release of 18.04 LTS which
has been promised for late July 2018. Today is 30 July 2018. There is
still no release upgrade.

[Bug 1780664] Re: Recent libgl-mesa graphics update prevents drop down list menu appearing in apps like firefox three line/bar menu icon

2018-07-29 Thread Reg Dodds
OpenGL interface GLX must be deselected in Compositor and EGL chosen.
GLX does causes "okular menu buttons not clickable and Firefox open menu button
dead" problem.

Select OpenGL interface EGL.
OR select XRender.

The problem lies hidden somwherw in GLX.

[Bug 1782132] Re: Menus do not open when clicked

2018-07-19 Thread Reg Dodds
Kubuntu has this bug. I desperately NEED these clickable menus on
Okular and Firefox ///.

I have reverted to an old build of 12.04 to gain functionality.

For the debugging detectives: I have been using Okular and click its
drop down menus to cut and paste from pdf documents daily. I usually
avoid upgrading.

The bug appeared when I upgraded to Linux teleman1 4.4.0-130-generic #156-Ubuntu
and made Firefox /// menu button on North East corner of Firefox window
and all Okular menu bar items NOT clickable.

BUT on another machine Linux teleman2 4.4.0-128-generic #154 ...
BOTH Firefox /// menu button on North East corner of Firefox window
and all Okular menu bar items ARE clickable.

Both machs use newest Plasma.

While installing opencv on teleman2 some necessary but unintentional
upgrades messed up the clickability on Okular and Firefox /// menu
button on North East corner of Firefox window.

So to repeat myself I have reverted to an old build of 12.04 to gain
functionality until Father Brown, Sherlock or Dick Tracy finds and
removes the dastardly devil.

[Bug 1781163] Re: okular has lost all functions on menus (not clickable)

2018-07-16 Thread Reg Dodds
Sorry. The previous evidence is true, but might be misleading. Note
these are two machines both called teleman. They are two different
machines.

Using the same machine where this bug appears and booting previous
versions of the OS not = -130, i.e. -128 and -127, the bug is still
present. The machine on -128 where the bug does NOT lie, has not been
upgraded recently.

Linux teleman 4.4.0-130-generic #156-Ubuntu
Firefox \stackrel{=}{_} button and Okular menu not clickable.

But on

[Bug 575660] Re: Mali layout selects Malayalam layout

2012-02-22 Thread reg
Bryce,

The issue is not on Mali, the issue is on Malayalam which breaks Mali.

From a user's standpoint, after installing oneiric, if you choose any
Mali (country) or Bambara (language) layout, you will get Malayalam
(language). It is easy to distinguish as Malayalam uses a non-latin
script.

The causes I've identified in the past were a conflict of codes and filenames:
Mali (country) has an ISO3166-1 code of ML
XKB convention is that layouts are stored in per-country files named after the
ISO3166-1 code (thus ml)
Malayalam (language) has an ISO 639-1 code of ML

According to upstream the problem is not with the ml layout (to fix the
problem locally, I rename ml to mali and change its name in evdev.xml)

Looking at evdev.xml in oneiric, I am not sure how to resolve the
problem as Malayalam no longer makes reference to ML but only to MAL. I
imagine the problem still lies in code conversion but I can't check as
freedesktop website is down for me at the moment.

--
Mali country codes:
ISO 3166-1 Alpha-3MLI
ISO 3166-1 Alpha-2ML
Malayalam language codes:
ISO 639-1 ml
ISO 639-2 mal
ISO 639-3 mal
Bambara language codes:
ISO 639-1 bm
ISO 639-2 bam
ISO 639-3 bam

[Bug 575660] Re: Mali layout selects Malayalam layout

2011-12-11 Thread reg
Can someone reopen this bug as it is a regression since 11.04.
The bug was fixed for 10.10 but came back in 11.04 and is still present in 11.10

The fix is easy: change Malayalam file name as it should be tied to
country code (India) instead of Language code.

[Bug 885809] Re: Live stuck on Loading bootlogo

2011-11-04 Thread reg
Phil, the problem appears before the kernel is loaded I think.
I think the problem lies somewhere between isolinux and the live cd menu (grub?)
I created the bug report from the question mentioning the symptom hence the
ubiquity assignment. Obviously need to be moved to another package.

Brad, can't run any command at that point.

[Bug 885809] [NEW] Live stuck on Loading bootlogo

2011-11-03 Thread reg
Public bug reported:

On MacbookPro (8,1), with an SSD drive as primary disk (EFI), neither
the Live CD or USB sticks would work.

It will always fail right after ISOLINUX copyright line and prompt
Loading bootlogo

CD integrity is OK.

The workaround consist in using an EFI Ubuntu loader that someone made
and is available on the Internet (without sources and it states it's
been done for Ubuntu 10.10).

The problem does not only affect Ubuntu but at least also debian squeeze
and Arch October.

[Bug 460298] Re: Installation failed when path to the ISO contains non-ascii characters

2009-12-30 Thread reg
Also affected.

This bug is not likely to be fixed in karmic since it's a consequence of
a python 2.x bug.

http://bugs.python.org/issue6135
http://bugs.python.org/issue1759845

Fixing it would require one of the following:

. patch python
. patch usb-creator to warn user (lame and easy)
. rename the file on-the-fly (ugly)
. patch usb-creator not to use Subprocess.Popen (would create other issues)
. wait for python3

[Bug 488062] [NEW] [karmic] HP LaserJet 1300 uses wrong driver by default

2009-11-25 Thread reg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

In karmic, the auto-install of a USB-plugged HP LaserJet 1300 will configure it
with the wrong driver: HP LaserJet 1300 Series Postscript [en] (recommended)
With that driver, printing is more than random: I could print 2 pages out of 20
attempts with several reboot of the printer.

This is a regression ; it uses to work plug play in jaunty.

Solution:
Edit the printer properties and select : HP LaserJet 1300 hpijs pcl3, 3.9.8 [en]
Then it works perfectly.

[Bug 482730] [NEW] calc not redrawing columns after resizing

2009-11-14 Thread reg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

1.create a new sheet or open one
2.put some text in a cell (no text no bug)
3.resize the cell's column
4.it doesn't redraw the sheet immediately
5.click at the cell and visual problems occur, since it shows a width that is
incorrect
as it changed but didn't redraw and now when you click it redraws only part
of it

a very ugly and basic bug...
i'm using ubuntu 9.04, compiz, OO 3.0.1 build 9379

[Bug 482730] Re: calc not redrawing columns after resizing

2009-11-14 Thread reg
Hi all. Ok, more 15 minutes of search and could find it.
Not an OO problem, but a compatibilty issue with compiz and nvidia drivers.
How to solve: go to the compizconfig settings window utility workarounds
Enable workarounds and press over it and then enable force synchronization
between X and GLX
Hope it's helpful for someone.

[Bug 321326] [NEW] Unable to change Opening Balances initial value

2009-01-25 Thread Reg Charney
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnucash

When initially starting to use GnuCash, specific values for accounts are
often not set nor filled in. This is done in the realistic expectation
that the values can be changed later. Unfortunately, this is not the
case. In particular, if you use the Druid's default chart of accounts,
there is no way of changing any initial values.

User should be able to change the initial value of the Opening Balances
account (or any other account, for that matter)

I am using: Ubuntu 8.04.2 and gnucash 2.2.4

[Bug 264655] [NEW] POP3 fails after recent HArdy updates Gnome

2008-09-04 Thread Reg Kennedy
Public bug reported:

On Sunday 31st Sept. I found that I could not receive mail on Opera or
Thunderbird - sending was OK. This also happened on Mint with Kubuntu. I
checked with my server provider and all was well there. I spotted an unrelated
note about mail sound delivery notification causing loss of POP3 on
Thunderbird. I deselected this and POP3 was open again on both Opera and
Thunderbird.
(IMAP was unaffected)
Thanks

[Bug 165132] Re: remind doesn't work

2008-05-01 Thread Reg Hardman
.reminders
I made an empty file ~/.reminders, then let the application fill it. Check
the permissions. I think this file may be generated when you first succeed in
starting remind.

wish: not found
I had to install tk8.4 and tcl8.4, using apt. With those installed, it worked
for me, in Ubuntu 7.10.
Good luck, when it works, it is very good.

[Bug 152504] Re: system-config-printer won't accept password

2007-12-12 Thread Reg
Not just two people. I have just attempted to add a networked Brother
HL-2070N. I first attempted this with a secure password (similar to the
one described in the original post) and was repeatedly prompted for my
password until I got a message indicating that my password might be
incorrect (very odd -- might be incorrect). I switched to a simpler
password and had the same issue.

The command gksudo /usr/bin/system-config-printer worked for me as
well.

[Bug 124591] Re: apache2 can't start rigth after installation (config broken)

2007-07-12 Thread reg
OK, this bug seems to be invalid.
While trying to reproduce it I realized that I made a mistake :

1. tried to launch /etc/init.d/apache2
= silently failed.
2. tried to launch /usr/sbin/apache2ctl to get output
= reported the inclusion problem
3. retried to launch via init, then fixed the NO_START

So, this bug is invalid and just reffers to the NO_START issue which is
already covered by many bug#.

[Bug 124591] apache2 can't start rigth after installation (config broken)

2007-07-07 Thread reg
Public bug reported:

A fresh install of apache2 can't start because /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
includes (line 189) the file /etc/apache2/httpd.conf (comment says it's for
user-defined rules) which does no exist.
Quite annoying since /etc/init.d/apache2 start does not report any problem.

Could be fixed by the addition of an empty (still commented) httpd.conf
file.

Version: 2.2.3-3.2build1 on feisty.

[Bug 68218] Re: synch rate off on virtual console

2007-02-07 Thread Reg Kennedy
Please note that the problem disappeared when I removed the Ubuntu desktop and
ran only on KDE.
With a clean KDE all is as it should be.
Is there a bug somewhere on Edgy Gnome?
Thanks
Reg

Yes, Richard, both are correct and the problem continues.
Thanks

Is this issue with a LCD or a CRT?

 /etc/usplash.conf

 xres=1024
 yres=768

 is that set correctly?

Thanks for confirming this, Martin-Eric. Let's hope something can be
done.

Having recently serviced this bug reporter's computer, I confirm.

Near the end of the boot process, virtual consoles display a distorted
image with fast moving horizontal bars scrolling past, similar to when
the vhold of a monitor is off range.

At shutdown or reboot, the same garbage appears on the virtual console.

The user's screen resolution is 1024x768 (and correctly configured in
 the usplash configuration file).

[Bug 68218] synch rate off on virtual console

2006-10-25 Thread Reg Kennedy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usplash

After first splash and also at close the vertical and horizontal holds are lost.
This started about 2 weeks ago and I had been hoping that further updates would
have corrected this.
Thanks
Reg

[Bug 47634] Re: grep on ubuntu runs slow on medium sized files.

2006-06-13 Thread reg
Still a slooow issue in Dapper grep but it affects only the case-
unsensitive flag. Is this related to the locale stuff ?
