[Bug 1390618] [NEW] Uniy8 crashed when creating a wireless connection with an access point

2014-11-07 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

current build number: 11
device name: mako
channel: ubuntu-touch/vivid-proposed
last update: 2014-11-07 19:25:24
version version: 11
version ubuntu: 20141106.1
version device: 20141106
version custom: 20141106.1

Had system-settings opened in order to verify for updates, but noticed
that I didn't have any valid wireless connection, so when I tried to
connect with my access point, unity8 crashed completely. This happened
after adding the password and hitting 'Connect'.

I could not reproduce this bug with the attempts I tried (both vivid/7
and rtm/140).

In any case, could someone test the packages from
http://people.canonical.com/~rsalveti/1373985/ to see if it helps fixing
this bug? If so, I can upload it to vivid and create a silo for RTM
(until it gets approved).

[Bug 1383490] [NEW] Device automatically updated after rebooting into recovery (without telling the system to update)

2014-10-20 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

I have auto-download updates enabled by default, and I noticed one
update was downloaded automatically, but I didn't want the device to
update itself, as I was changing the system for development purposes.
After calling 'adb reboot recovery', it automatically flashed the new
image (that was cached), even though I had never asked that.

I don't think we should be automatically hooking up the auto-flash when
you run recover, unless the user accepts that (as it can cause all sorts
of issues when you're changing the base system).

Using image RTM 118 on krillin.

[Bug 1380567] Re: Music plays through device's loudspeaker when incoming call received with BT headset connected

2014-10-16 Thread Ricardo Salveti
We don't yet support inband ringtone for BT headsets, so it's expected
for the ringtone to play through the device's loudspeaker. Also, even
when that gets supported, it's still the desired behaviour to also play
on the device's loudspeaker, together with wired/bt headset (which is
not yet the case).

For the music issue, that's covered at bug 1239432.

[Bug 1368814] Re: Volume slider still available when Silent Mode is on

Remember that silent mode here is used only by the 'alert' audio role.
The volume slider should still show up when the active role is

Ideally the silent mode would just mean a mute for the 'alert' role, but
this need further changes in ubuntu-system-settings and a few other

[Bug 1373404] Re: No warning of high volume level

2014-10-13 Thread Ricardo Salveti
One easy way in the indicator to know if the active port a
headphone/headset: http://paste.ubuntu.com/8556022/

I think we should do the following:
1 - Check if the active port is headset;
2 - If headset, see if the volume for the multimedia role is higher than 75%.
If higher, change it to 75% (this is basically what is done on Android). This
check can be done once at every reboot (or every time someone plugs a
headphone/headset).
3 - When changing volume for the multimedia role, warn the user if higher than
75%.

You can also do the same for the other roles, but generally we are only
concerned with multimedia.

[Bug 1379840] Re: corrupted QML cache for messaging app makes it crash at startup

2014-10-12 Thread Ricardo Mendoza
The issue at hand is a wrong assumption done by the cache loader that if
the changes to the source files are minimal, a single recompile of the
changed files is enough. This has proven to be not true, instead, a full
recompilation needs to happen as the QML meta tree might have changed in
ways that could cause weird application behaviour, or outright crashes.

The solution is:

1. Invalidate the full cache if any of the source files has been changed, and
recompile in full.
2. If an application crashes during startup, wipe its cache to increase
stability.

[Bug 1379618] [NEW] Sync to accountservice interferes with role volume changes (and device as well)

2014-10-09 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

When changing volume and either playing with role volume changes, or
device connect/disconnect, the sync to accountservice can interfere with
the volume level by restoring back the previous volume value set.

One example:
Setting volume (create_volume_action) - 0.180322
Setting volume: 0.180322
Setting volume internal (0.180322)
Setting volume for role /org/pulseaudio/stream_restore1/entry2 (0.180322 -
11817)
Sending volume changed signal (0.180322 - 11817)
Sending volume changed signal - active role
(/org/pulseaudio/stream_restore1/entry3) changed (0.781906 - 51243)
Setting volume internal (0.180322)
Setting volume for role /org/pulseaudio/stream_restore1/entry3 (0.180322 -
11817)
Sending volume changed signal (0.180322 - 11817)

To reproduce on touch:
1) Without any active media stream, set volume (alert) to 10%
2) Open music-app and play a song
3) Change volume for the active stream (multimedia) to 90% and hit pause (you
can do both from the indicator)
4) The volume will change to 10% (as you paused multimedia), and then move back
to 90%, as a consequence of the accountservice sync from the first volume set

[Bug 1379485] Re: On krillin only 1 sim connects to the bluetooth device meaning only that sim rings on both device and bt headset

2014-10-09 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Looking at the bluez code, this is actually the expected behaviour.
Currently bluez only supports one modem, as there's not really a good
way to support HSP with multiple modems (which modem should it use when
pressing the call button?).

Need to discuss this better internally and with the product management
to see if we indeed want to support such use case, and then better
understand how that can be done.

** Changed in: bluez (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Confirmed

** Tags added: rtm14

** Summary changed:

- On krillin only 1 sim connects to the bluetooth device meaning only that sim
rings on both device and bt headset
+ bluez only manages one modem with HSP (not dual as we have on krillin)

[Bug 1361617] Re: DTMF tones when dialing use wrong speaker

2014-10-09 Thread Ricardo Salveti
That all depends on the volume you set for the alert role (the default
one).

If you compare with Android, the max level is similar, but only if your
main volume is at 100% (alert in our case).

By default DTMF is using 10% of the alert volume, so it's only loud if
you let the alert at such high level.

[Bug 1378920] Re: Synchronous sound notifications pause video

2014-10-08 Thread Ricardo Salveti
The ideal here is changing the indicator to give us a hint about the
current active role, and only play the notification sound when the
active role is 'alert'.

We shouldn't play any audio notification when changing sound for
multimedia/alarm, as that is really annoying (imagine yourself
increasing the volume of a awesome video/music and getting all those
annoying beeps until you get to the right volume level).

[Bug 1378961] Re: Volume notifications over multimedia content are annoying

IMHO we should show the visual but only playing the audio notification
if the active role is 'alert'.

We'd need a hint for that (from indicator-sound), and that hint might
also be useful to show different icons as well (multimedia, phone,
alert, alarm).

[Bug 1363046] Re: No message/call notification tone plays through Bluetooth headset

2014-10-08 Thread Ricardo Salveti
So the expected behaviour is the following:
- HSP only devices:
 * No notification on incoming SMS
 * Ringtone notification (not with the same sound, as that's specific to the
device)

- HSP/HFP + A2DP devices:
 * Notification on incoming SMS (like any other multimedia sound)
   - As it usually takes a few seconds for the sound to be resumed on the BT
speaker, it might not be enough for the alert sound to show up
 * Ringtone notification (not with the same sound, as that's specific to the
device)

2. Go to the video scope and wait

Expected result
Thumbnails appear after a moment

Actual Result
No thumbnail. Connect to the device to watch apport running and a crash file of
mediascanner-service-2.0 in /var/crash and mediascanner-service-2.0 using lot

[Bug 1378397] Re: video thumbnails are not generated for some divx files

2014-10-07 Thread Ricardo Salveti
From Alfonso Sanchez-Beato (alfonsosanchezbeato):

I finally managed to play these files. Two pieces of information were
not being passed to MTK OMX library:

* Some codec specific data that was not being copied by libhybris
downwards, although gstreamer was actually providing the data.

* The suggested size for the input buffers is not provided by
libhybris/gstreamer, so defaults are taken. It looks like the fact that
the video is interleaved implies that bigger than normal input buffers
are needed. I made a quick workaround that made a file play, but to
solve this properly implies modifications to gstreamer that I am
currently analysing. Android takes the input buffer size from the AVI
header. From http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-
us/library/windows/desktop/dd318180(v=vs.85).aspx :

dwSuggestedBufferSize:

Specifies the suggested buffer size for reading the file. Generally, this size
should be large enough to contain the largest chunk in the file. If set to
zero, or if it is too small, the playback software will have to reallocate
memory during playback, which will reduce performance. For an interleaved file,
the buffer size should be large enough to read an entire record, and not just a
chunk.

[Bug 1371635] Re: [FFe] standing freeze exception in utopic for Ubuntu Touch-specific packages

2014-10-01 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Indeed, for some reason I thought the other indicators would also be
common to the desktop stack, but that's not the case.

The feature we want to land in indicator-sound is part of bug 1368827,
that allows the user to control the volume per audio roles (not only
master). This change is touch specific as it needs a combination of
configs that are available in ubuntu-touch-session for it to be used.

[Bug 1368827] Re: [FFe] [touch] indicator needs to be able to control volume per audio role

2014-10-01 Thread Ricardo Salveti
** Summary changed:

- [touch] indicator needs to be able to control volume per audio role
+ [FFe] [touch] indicator needs to be able to control volume per audio role

** Changed in: indicator-sound (Ubuntu)
   Status: In Progress = New

** Description changed:

+ Dear Release Team,
+
From the Sound design for Touch (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#Phone),
we need to change the default behaviour of the indicator in order to be
able to change volume per audio roles, and not only the master volume.

On touch the master volume will always be at 100%, and each media role
will have its own volume values, so we can have a different volume level
  for multimedia, ringtone and alarms.

This can be done using the streamrestore module in pulseaudio (via another
dbus entry point that is only enabled on touch atm):

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/Developer/Clients/DBus/StreamRestore/

There's also a sample script on python that can be used to set/get volume per
roles:
  https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jusa/pulseaudio-utils/master/pasr.py

And the current roles supporter by touch are: multimedia, alert, phone
  and alarm.
+
+ This change is touch specific as it needs a combination of configs that
+ are available in ubuntu-touch-session for it to be used (different code
+ path that only gets used on touch).

** Description changed:

+ the remaining features needed for Ubuntu Touch.

[Bug 1373412] [NEW] Find a way to move device specific apparmor rules into android/device tarball without breaking cache

2014-09-24 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

Currently we're still handling device specific apparmor rules in lxc-
android-config, and the main reason is that we need such rules when
generating the cache for apparmor (which happens when generating the
rootfs).

Moving the rules into the device tarball can cause timestamp issues if
the cache is newer, as apparmor will never update the cache files with
the device specific rules.

[Bug 1368436] Re: camera-app crashes after quickly opening and closing app

Yeah, even when hybris is actually working with a proper assert, that
still causes a crash with an abort. The real fix here is in qtubuntu-
camera, to make sure control is actually valid when using it.

This is a race when shutting down the app, and seems to be easier to
crash now that for some unknown reason the startup is a bit slower.

[Bug 1371245] [NEW] trust-store dialog (location) not asked on the first boot after a clean flash

2014-09-18 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

current build number: 48
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed
last update: 2014-09-18 18:32:37
version version: 48
version ubuntu: 20140918.1
version device: 20140917-19d7408
version custom: 1410739265

Flashed with: ubuntu-device-flash --channel=ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-
rtm/14.09-proposed --bootstrap --developer-mode --password=1234

After first boot (wizard and etc), try opening the camera-app and you'll
see that the trust-store dialog will not show up to the screen and the
user is able to use the app.

Dialog shows up after rebooting it though, so it seems to be a first-
boot specific issue.

[Bug 1368436] Re: camera-app crashes after quickly opening and closing app

2014-09-18 Thread Ricardo Salveti
The proper backtrace from android:

#0 my_pthread_mutex_lock (__mutex=0x8) at hooks.c:479
#1 0xa9e23b58 in memmove (src=0x0, dest=0x8, len=1) at
bionic/libc/include/string.h:114
#2  move_forward_typeandroid::key_value_pair_tandroid::String8,
android::String8  (n=2850176545, s=0x0, d=0x8) at
system/core/include/utils/TypeHelpers.h:181
#3  android::SortedVectorandroid::key_value_pair_tandroid::String8,
android::String8 ::do_move_forward (this=optimized out, dest=0x8, from=0x0,
num=2850176545) at system/core/include/utils/SortedVector.h:264

The crash in hybris is a quite weird one, as it's not able to access the
pointer given to mutex_lock:
static int my_pthread_mutex_lock(pthread_mutex_t *__mutex)
unsigned int value = (*(unsigned int *) __mutex); - crash

Wonder when this crash started to happen, and nothing really changed in
libhybris for quite a while.
