[Bug 1378397] Re: video thumbnails are not generated for some divx files

2014-10-07 Thread Ricardo Salveti
From Alfonso Sanchez-Beato (alfonsosanchezbeato):

I finally managed to play these files. Two pieces of information were
not being passed to MTK OMX library:

* Some codec specific data that was not being copied by libhybris
downwards, although gstreamer was actually providing the data.

* The suggested size for the input buffers is not provided by
libhybris/gstreamer, so defaults are taken. It looks like the fact that
the video is interleaved implies that bigger than normal input buffers
are needed. I made a quick workaround that made a file play, but to
solve this properly implies modifications to gstreamer that I am
currently analysing. Android takes the input buffer size from the AVI
header. From http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-
us/library/windows/desktop/dd318180(v=vs.85).aspx :

dwSuggestedBufferSize:

Specifies the suggested buffer size for reading the file. Generally, this size
should be large enough to contain the largest chunk in the file. If set to
zero, or if it is too small, the playback software will have to reallocate
memory during playback, which will reduce performance. For an interleaved file,
the buffer size should be large enough to read an entire record, and not just a
chunk.

[Bug 1371635] Re: [FFe] standing freeze exception in utopic for Ubuntu Touch-specific packages

2014-10-01 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Indeed, for some reason I thought the other indicators would also be
common to the desktop stack, but that's not the case.

The feature we want to land in indicator-sound is part of bug 1368827,
that allows the user to control the volume per audio roles (not only
master). This change is touch specific as it needs a combination of
configs that are available in ubuntu-touch-session for it to be used.

[Bug 1368827] Re: [FFe] [touch] indicator needs to be able to control volume per audio role

2014-10-01 Thread Ricardo Salveti
** Summary changed:

- [touch] indicator needs to be able to control volume per audio role
+ [FFe] [touch] indicator needs to be able to control volume per audio role

** Changed in: indicator-sound (Ubuntu)
   Status: In Progress = New

** Description changed:

+ Dear Release Team,
+
From the Sound design for Touch (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#Phone),
we need to change the default behaviour of the indicator in order to be
able to change volume per audio roles, and not only the master volume.

On touch the master volume will always be at 100%, and each media role
will have its own volume values, so we can have a different volume level
  for multimedia, ringtone and alarms.

This can be done using the streamrestore module in pulseaudio (via another
dbus entry point that is only enabled on touch atm):

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/Developer/Clients/DBus/StreamRestore/

There's also a sample script on python that can be used to set/get volume per
roles:
  https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jusa/pulseaudio-utils/master/pasr.py

And the current roles supporter by touch are: multimedia, alert, phone
  and alarm.
+
+ This change is touch specific as it needs a combination of configs that
+ are available in ubuntu-touch-session for it to be used (different code
+ path that only gets used on touch).

** Description changed:

+ the remaining features needed for Ubuntu Touch.

[Bug 1373412] [NEW] Find a way to move device specific apparmor rules into android/device tarball without breaking cache

2014-09-24 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

Currently we're still handling device specific apparmor rules in lxc-
android-config, and the main reason is that we need such rules when
generating the cache for apparmor (which happens when generating the
rootfs).

Moving the rules into the device tarball can cause timestamp issues if
the cache is newer, as apparmor will never update the cache files with
the device specific rules.

[Bug 1368436] Re: camera-app crashes after quickly opening and closing app

2014-09-19 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Yeah, even when hybris is actually working with a proper assert, that
still causes a crash with an abort. The real fix here is in qtubuntu-
camera, to make sure control is actually valid when using it.

This is a race when shutting down the app, and seems to be easier to
crash now that for some unknown reason the startup is a bit slower.

[Bug 1371245] [NEW] trust-store dialog (location) not asked on the first boot after a clean flash

2014-09-18 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

current build number: 48
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed
last update: 2014-09-18 18:32:37
version version: 48
version ubuntu: 20140918.1
version device: 20140917-19d7408
version custom: 1410739265

Flashed with: ubuntu-device-flash --channel=ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-
rtm/14.09-proposed --bootstrap --developer-mode --password=1234

After first boot (wizard and etc), try opening the camera-app and you'll
see that the trust-store dialog will not show up to the screen and the
user is able to use the app.

Dialog shows up after rebooting it though, so it seems to be a first-
boot specific issue.

[Bug 1368436] Re: camera-app crashes after quickly opening and closing app

2014-09-18 Thread Ricardo Salveti
The proper backtrace from android:

The crash in hybris is a quite weird one, as it's not able to access the
pointer given to mutex_lock:
static int my_pthread_mutex_lock(pthread_mutex_t *__mutex)
unsigned int value = (*(unsigned int *) __mutex); - crash

Wonder when this crash started to happen, and nothing really changed in
libhybris for quite a while.

[Bug 1368436] Re: camera-app crashes after quickly opening and closing app

2014-09-18 Thread Ricardo Salveti
This seems to be a mix of issues, but the crash itself is caused because
android_camera_set_scene_mode gets called after control gets released.
In theory the correct result here would be an abort, but it seems assert
is not behaving properly, which I'm now investigating why.

Besides that, the release/closing race seems to be actually part of
qtubuntu-camera, and not hybris.

[Bug 1370091] Re: With music playing, pressing the dialpad keys reduces the volume for an odd interval

2014-09-17 Thread Ricardo Salveti
The question here is more to what is the desired behaviour when playing
DTMF tones.

It needs to be an alert, as on silent mode you don't want it to play,
but any alert at this moment will trigger the ducking effect described
by the bug.

Do we want it to duck or to cork? Cork would be even more confusing
imho.

[Bug 1370091] Re: With music playing, pressing the dialpad keys reduces the volume for an odd interval

2014-09-17 Thread Ricardo Salveti
We could later on have a separated role for dtmf, that would not be
affected by corking and not by ducking, but that is currently not
possible as it'd break the silent mode use case.

Once we're able to group roles, and separate behaviour with volume, we
can get this fixed, but post RTM.

So from IRC it's more about the lack of a fading effect when ducking the
sound. There's also an issue that the dtmf tone takes a while to
disappear after playing the sound, and for that I added a bugtask for

[Bug 1358343] Re: don't turn on screen on notifications if proximity sensor triggered

2014-09-15 Thread Ricardo Salveti
I'd like to avoid using the proximity sensor for anything in here, as
that might easily cause us a bunch of bad side effects (as anything on
top of the sensor would trigger this use case, not only inside the
pocket).

So I'd like to push for the swipe gesture instead, and if indeed not
possible, we can try hacking powerd to not turn on the screen in some
special cases.

[Bug 1368827] [NEW] [touch] indicator needs to be able to control volume per audio role

2014-09-12 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

From the Sound design for Touch (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#Phone),
we need to change the default behaviour of the indicator in order to be
able to change volume per audio roles, and not only the master volume.

On touch the master volume will always be at 100%, and each media role
will have its own volume values, so we can have a different volume level
for multimedia, ringtone and alarms.

This can be done using the streamrestore module in pulseaudio (via another dbus
entry point that is only enabled on touch atm):
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/Developer/Clients/DBus/StreamRestore/

There's also a sample script on python that can be used to set/get volume per
roles:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jusa/pulseaudio-utils/master/pasr.py

And the current roles supporter by touch are: multimedia, alert, phone
and alarm.

[Bug 1366586] Re: Music app stops playing when an app plays a sound

2014-09-12 Thread Ricardo Salveti
There's no perfect solution in here, with whatever default role we pick.
The main problem is that we currently can only have on active multimedia
stream at a time, and that was a workaround until the background
playlist stuff gets finished.

We need to improve/fix the documentation to make sure that this gets
covered by all apps, so they can at least know better what to do when
playing something.

Media-hub can only be involved in this once the browser is actually

[Bug 1365095] [NEW] Greeter not asking for pin code in image 11 (krillin)

2014-09-03 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

Flashed with: adb reboot bootloader; ubuntu-device-flash --channel
=ubuntu-touch/utopic-proposed --bootstrap

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ system-image-cli -i
current build number: 11
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/utopic-proposed
last update: 2014-09-03 17:25:13
version version: 11
version ubuntu: 20140903.1
version device: 20140902-42bae3c

Wizard worked fine, and I selected pin code, adding my passwd with 4
digits, but Unity8 is not requesting my pin once it's up (not even after
reboot). The welcome wizard is also showing up at every boot.

Nothing special in the wizard, accepted everything and skipped the
network setup.

[Bug 1364725] [NEW] Krillin fails to display spinner/unity8 after upgrade to 1.11.7-0ubuntu1

2014-09-02 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

I noticed that after mako's version 213 of ubuntu touch
(http://people.canonical.com/~ogra/touch-image-stats/213.changes), the
display started failing quite frequently when using it with krillin (rtm
is fine though).

Tracking down the changes, it seems that the lightdm update from
1.11.6-0ubuntu1 to 1.11.7-0ubuntu1 is the one causing the issue, as I
can get my display to work perfectly fine with latest image + lightdm
1.11.6-0ubuntu1

The symptom is a bit weird though, as the display itself is on (with
proper brightness and so on), but nothing showing up on the screen (like
not being rendered for some reason). Display power off/on doesn't help,
and it seems Unity8 is running fine in the background.

When I get this issue, I'm also not able to see the ubuntu touch spinner
before Unity8 is up.

One way to get a working display again is by restarting ligthdm by hand.

Can you try the latest image and see if you can still reproduce the

[Bug 1359530] Re: Device trying to suspend when screen is turned off by proximity sensor (during a call)

2014-08-26 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Yeah, checking android this is actually an expected behavior (the phone
will not suspend anyway because of a wakelock).

The question I had initially was actually regarding the proximity
sensor, and how would that work when an app decides to use it without
any general suspend blocker. Not sure if the hardware will trigger the
cpu in order for the device to not be suspended when the proximity
sensor is active.

But at least for voicecall, you're right, we can mark this bug as
invalid.

[Bug 1359530] [NEW] Device trying to suspend when screen is turned off by proximity sensor (during a call)

2014-08-20 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ system-image-cli -i
current build number: 202
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/utopic-proposed
last update: 2014-08-21 03:59:43
version version: 202
version ubuntu: 20140821
version device: 20140811.1

Device tries to suspend when the screen is turned off by the proximity
sensor (when a voicecall is in place).

Looking at powerd, there's no active suspend blocker when the proximity
sensor disables the screen, forcing powerd to go in suspend state.

The device shouldn't try to suspend when a voicecall is active (or when
the proximity sensor is the one turning the screen off).

When the call starts:
powerd-cli: Running as user is not fully supported.
System State Requests:

I can also confirm this issue, and affects ubuntu touch. After the
device is booted, when playing something, it'll always be set to maxium,
even though pactl list sinks shows the right volume

Once I change volume up or down, it gets to the right and expected
volume level (abruptly changing the volume).

In my case:

[Bug 598308] Re: Volume at login set to Maximum

2014-08-12 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Tracking down the pa_sink_set_volume call (which is what pactl set-sink-
volume uses), the original sink had the correct real volume, but a wrong
soft_volume (as in my use case the driver/hw is not providing hardware
volume support). The soft_volume was actually at the max volume, which
is the initial value provided by pa_sink_new.

Follows the dbg info from the first call to pa_sink_set_volume call (via
pactl):

[Bug 598308] Re: Volume at login set to Maximum

2014-08-12 Thread Ricardo Salveti
As a test I created the following patch, that fixes the initial broken
behaviour for my driver/hw:

diff --git a/src/pulsecore/sink.c b/src/pulsecore/sink.c
index ccf6ea1..0f1a0b8 100644
--- a/src/pulsecore/sink.c
+++ b/src/pulsecore/sink.c
@@ -283,7 +283,10 @@ pa_sink* pa_sink_new(
 s-input_to_master = NULL;

 s-reference_volume = s-real_volume = data-volume;
-pa_cvolume_reset(s-soft_volume, s-sample_spec.channels);
+if (data-save_volume)
+s-soft_volume = data-volume;
+else
+pa_cvolume_reset(s-soft_volume, s-sample_spec.channels);
 s-base_volume = PA_VOLUME_NORM;
 s-n_volume_steps = PA_VOLUME_NORM+1;
 s-muted = data-muted;

Here data-save_volume will be true if module-device-restore was called
before getting to this block (with the right volume restored as
real_volume).

Now just need to discuss with upstream to see what would be the right
fix.

[Bug 598308] Re: Volume at login set to Maximum

2014-08-12 Thread Ricardo Salveti
So this is the call trace I'm getting with my device:
1) module specific (droid in my case) - pa_sink_new
2) pa_sink_new fires up PA_CORE_HOOK_SINK_FIXATE before finishing setting up
the sink, giving the original data (pa_sink_new_data) to the callback;
3) module-device-restore gets PA_CORE_HOOK_SINK_FIXATE and calls
sink_fixate_hook_callback, updating the real volume for pa_sink_new_data, and
setting up save_volume;
4) pa_sink_new then correctly sets reference_volume and real_volume, getting it
from pa_sink_new_data (which was used by module-device-restore)
5) pa_sink_new initializes soft_volume with the max value, causing this broken
behavior

Code:
src/pulsecore/sink.c:
 169 /* Called from main context */
 170 pa_sink* pa_sink_new(
 171 pa_core *core,
 172 pa_sink_new_data *data,
 173 pa_sink_flags_t flags) {
 174
...
 285 s-reference_volume = s-real_volume = data-volume;
 286 pa_cvolume_reset(s-soft_volume, s-sample_spec.channels);
...

At the time you call pactl set-sink-volume (or set the volume via the
indicator), it'll call sink_port_hook_callback that will call
pa_sink_set_volume, which will then set the real_volume and soft_volume
to the same value (as my driver is not providing the set_volume
callback.

[Bug 1353647] [NEW] No powerd suspend blocker after boot (just after first screen off/on cycle)

2014-08-06 Thread Ricardo Salveti
Public bug reported:

The way system-compositor holds down suspend is by acquiring a suspend
blocker from powerd. This is currently working fine for all cases but
the one after booting the system.

What you would expect after boot:
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ powerd-cli list
powerd-cli: Running as user is not fully supported.
System State Requests:
  Name: com.canonical.Unity.Screen, Owner: :1.9, State: 1

What you get:
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ powerd-cli list
powerd-cli: Running as user is not fully supported.
System State Requests:
  None

That makes the system to automatically suspend in a weird way when
someone tries to play a music/video (which basically mean an extra
suspend blocker acquire/release), making the system to suspend directly.

To reproduce:
- Boot the system
- Open media-player
- Play one song
- Stop

System will suspend and screen will be off.

** Affects: powerd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Affects: unity-system-compositor (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

** Also affects: powerd (Ubuntu)
