[Bug 925541] [NEW] gnome-terminal gets stuck until another key is pressed

2012-02-02 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Public bug reported:

Sometimes gnome-terminal does not update its displayed output until i press
another key. For example, if i am in the home directory and type Pictu the
terminal might get stuck at Pict. To make the u appear, i need to press
another key (doesn't matter if i press the left key to display 'u' or the 'r'
key to display 'ur'). This also happens while executing a batch program: the
output gets stuck and i need to press a key to see the output all the way to
the new prompt.
I'm pretty sure this did not happen until a week ago or so.

[Bug 331369] Re: regression vs. notification-daemon: positioning when multiple screens are available

2011-10-17 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
by setting multihead-mode to focus-follow i can get the notifications
on the main monitor... why isn't this the default behaviour? However, it
seems that notification positioning is wrong: instead of leaving a tiny
space from the panel, it leaves a tiny space from the top of the screen,
therefore partially obstructing the panel.

if you could please add this device to the patch as well, i could stop

[Bug 873685] [NEW] fuse.conf is not readable by users

2011-10-13 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Public bug reported:

I have a couple of sshfs entries in my fstab, and i usually just use mount
/home/user/sshfs/volume to mount them. Since i did a fresh install of oneiric i
get this message:
fusermount: failed to open /etc/fuse.conf: Permission denied
fusermount: option allow_other only allowed if 'user_allow_other' is set in
/etc/fuse.conf

note that user_allow_other is present in fuse.conf.

[Bug 872026] [NEW] guvcview crashes when starting to record video

2011-10-10 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Public bug reported:

When i press capture video guvcview segfaults. unfortunately it does
not produce a crash report even with apport enabled so i don't have a
backtrace. I am attaching the console output, hopefully it helps.

what codec i choose, and the output seems to be different.

[Bug 867840] [NEW] Unplugging the external monitor corrupts the laptop screen

2011-10-04 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Public bug reported:

I often plug an external monitor into the laptop. When i plug the
monitor in, everything works as expected. When i plug it out, my laptop
screen often gets corrupted (i will take a picture with my phone next
time it happens), though i can mostly fix the issue by going to console
(CTRL+ALT+F1) and switching back to X (ALT+F7). Other times, this does
not work, but replugging the monitor and unplugging it again does.

[Bug 863423] [NEW] [USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x81a, recording] Device shows up in the mixer's hardware tab, but its input is not in the input tab

2011-09-30 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Public bug reported:

When i plug in this webcam (Logictech C260), alsa detects it properly and it
shows up as a second device in alsamixer with one input. It also shows up in
the hardware tab of the gnome mixer, but in the input tab only the input
from my HDA intel is shown.
It looks like a pulseaudio issue to me, because it's not in pavucontrol

output), but i already rebooted and forgot to collect information for that bug

Rebooting solved the problem, but it's not the first time I have this
random failure...

[Bug 863460] [NEW] [USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x81a, recording] Wrong Frequency, then pulseaudio fails to detect card

2011-09-30 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Public bug reported:

I get this bug quite often with my Logitech C260 webcam. Unplugging and
replugging the device solves the issue. I think it mainly happens if i
boot with the device plugged or if i resume with the device plugged, but
I'm not 100% sure that's the exact way to reliably reproduce the
problem.

Basically, it looks like the sample rate is wrong. In dmesg, i get this message
repeated many times.:
[ 1288.177481] 11:3:4: cannot set freq 48000 to ep 0x86
and the peak detector in the gnome mixer is updating with a visibly lower
frequency. The sound is speeded up, both in the sound recorder and in skype. I
have attached a recording to show my wonderful chipmunk voice. Diagnosing the
problem with apport made it go nuts and now i can't even see the soundcards in
pulseaudio (but i still see them in alsa), though it seems that the webcam mic
volume is stuck (???) in alsamixer. This is the first time it causes problems
to the whole pulseaudio. Usually people in skype just tell me I have a weird
voice and I just unplug the webcam and replug it to get it to work, or just use
the laptop mic.

The guest user also has this problem. Also, when the screen is locked,
the background is displayed correctly (though that's not a real desktop,
is it?)

[Bug 862864] [NEW] Background shifted and problem repainting part of the screen

2011-09-29 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Public bug reported:

Since I restarted my laptop a couple of hours ago, i get this strange
corruption. It looks like the background is shifted, and X has problem
repainting the screen where there is no background. Also, the unity dock
does not hide. As you can see, the firefox window is missing its
decorations as well, though other windows still have proper decorations.

i'm experiencing this problem right now, though less severe: gnome runs
fine on the main display, but i'm trying to run gnome apps on a vnc
display from the same user and i have this problem. i just upgraded from
8.04 to 8.10 and everything worked fine before. I guess i have to
reinstall everything :-/

[Bug 108562] Re: Feisty Installer doesn't recognize my existing partitions

2007-04-22 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Workaround: use partition doctor to rewrite your partition table (and keep your
data of course!). This is due to an inconsistent partition table.
parted should give you the error: Error: can't have overlapping partitions

Still i don't know why EE tolerated this inconsistency while FF
refused to see my partitions...

sorry, the name is partition table doctor. Then you can install FF and

[Bug 108562] Feisty Installer doesn't recognize my existing partitions

2007-04-21 Thread Riccardo Pelizzi
Public bug reported:

Trying to install feisty on a Dell inpiron 6400 laptop.
Edgy eft installs and runs fine.

When prompted for disk partitioning, the installer only sees my laptop disk
with no partitions... so either i wipe out all the data on my disk since i have
to rewrite my partition table, or I give up installing Feisty Fawn :-(
I have no problems reading the partitions... i partitioned the disk while
installing windows XP sp2 a month ago... then installed edgy eft (which
detected the existing partitions just fine) and made a few extra partitions for
linux with the EE installer.
