[Bug 518533] Re: Unable to mount location Not Authorized after nautilus upgrade

2010-07-25 Thread Richard Coates
Not sure whether to report this as the same bug?
My system is a clean install of 10.04 with current patches applied.
For the past few weeks if I try to access my second sata drive (from Nautilus)
straight after boot up I get...
Unable to mount location Not Authorized.
The shutdown icon greys out and I'm forced to sudo reboot from the terminal.
It appears if I wait a minute or two after bootup everything is ok.

Re: [Bug 226279] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-17 - broken resume from suspend to RAM

2008-06-19 Thread Richard Coates
I fixed wifi on an Acer laptop with madwifi drivers.
try madwifi.org and google your chipset.
its a bit of a convoluted process but it worked ok in the end.

Synaptic shows that I have installed linux-restricted-
modules-2.6.24-19-generic (installed version 2.6.24.13-19.42 from Hardy-
updates, which is the only one showing as available).

But if I restart with 2.6.24-19-generic, then:

I have no Wireless as mentioned above. Also, clicking on Network Monitor
applet on the GNOME panel shows only SIOCGIFFLAGS error: No such
 device.

And System Administration Hardware Drivers shows only

Support for Atheros 802.11 wireless LAN cards. Enabled [v]. Status: Not
 in Use.

Not even listed in Hardware Drivers under 2.6.24-19-generic:

 - Atheros Hardware Access Layer (HAL) (which is listed and shown as
In use when I restart with kernel 2.6.20-16-generic)

 - ATI accelerated graphics driver (which is listed when I restart with
kernel 2.6.20-16-generic, though I choose not to use this driver as it
prevents Suspend/Hibernate, which is a different story, I think.)

Re: [Bug 226279] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-17 - broken resume from suspend to RAM

2008-06-19 Thread Richard Coates
There is a detailed step by step howto on the ubuntu forum.
sorry I dont have the link its on my friends laptop.
thats why I suggested googling for ..ubuntu, wifi-chipset-name to bring
it up.

Richard Coates, thanks for the tip. Having said this, I chose Ubuntu
largely because I had hoped to avoid googling my chipset and other
convoluted processes just to restore my network work after a kernel
upgrade. I'm not a software engineer, just a home user hoping for a
secure and stable alternative to Windows. I would be happy to try
anything within reason, but I would really appreciate detailed,
reproducible instructions. Thanks in advance for your help.

[Bug 92105] gnome-panel crash after using nautilus with smb shares

2007-03-13 Thread Richard Coates
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

similar to 36942 which is marked as a duplicate of 37037 but is different.
(edgy-eft) Gnome-Panel crashes after copying files using smb through nautilus.
repeatable. Panel is visible but blank (no menus).
I have to cntrl-alt-backspace, kill gnome-panel from command line, login
again.
Bug buddy does not run, nautilus still functions.

Hi Stephane, don't know what Tomboy is?
/usr/bin/mono
is the executable I think. I tried to view the crash file but its too
big to open in a text editor.
I'm happy to email it to you if its any help.
regards,
Richard Coates.

 Are you using Tomboy ?
That's the first Gnome integrated mono software I think about.
For your bug, if you can't attach it here, maybe you can split it or upload
 it somewhere.
Anyway 3.8MB seems really big, maybe you can remove some useless informations.

[Bug 74224] crash after login ( Edgy eft )

2006-12-02 Thread Richard Coates
Public bug reported:

I have a crash report but it is 3.8MB
how do I attach it?
I have no idea which mono package crashed, the report just said mono crash.
But i assume that info is in the crash report.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package
'libmono-1.0.5'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.
