[Bug 995146] Re: File sync status is incorrect: it reports File Sync Disabled but syncdaemon is happy and IDLE

2012-06-07 Thread Rick McBride
on a VM on a slow host, where I was able to reproduce this behavior
before, I am no longer seeing the control panel indicator out of sync as
described. As the Test Case notes, this is a difficult thing to force,
but given the unit tests involved and my observation, I believe this is
verified.

[Test Case]
With ubuntuone-control-panel-qt open, it may sometimes report that File Sync is
disabled in the upper right status area, when in fact file sync is working
fine. There isn't a known way to force this to happen, so testing is not easy.
However, the fix includes unit tests.

Passes verification on Precise using:

[Test Case]
0. Ensure sni-qt is installed, so Qt tray icons can appear as app indicators.
1. Run ubuntuone-control-panel-qt --with-icon
2. Minimize the control panel window
3. Right-click on the tray icon - restore

1. verify that syncdaemon is running
2. type 'u1sdtool -q'
3. verify that syncdaemon is not running

  Steps to recreate.

  1. verify that syncdaemon is running
  2. type 'u1sdtool -q'
  3. verify that syncdaemon is not running
  4. type 'u1sdtool -q'
+ 5. verify that syncdaemon is still not running

Expected: Do not start syncdaemon. Return some kind of a message that
syncdaemon is not running.

[Bug 883252] Re: Syncdaemon executes multiple GetDelta commands in parallel on the same volume

2012-06-06 Thread Rick McBride
Tested by restarting syncdaemon with and without changes to volumes
between. Observed none of the unwanted operation described in

[Test Case]
Without this fix, excessive GetDelta calls for the same Volume ID will appear
in the syncdaemon.log under ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/. With the fix, after
restarting syncdaemon, whenever a GetDelta call is made for a volume, it will
occur only once for each volume.

However, holding off on setting verification-done due to NACK from
mdeslaur.

[Bug 959447] Re: Computer to cloud wizard page: if os.walk fails, 'Calculating' header never goes away

2012-06-06 Thread Rick McBride
Per ralsina, this actually occurs due to non-ascii. added file
優柔不断な人_ñandú.txt to one of the special folders and tested according to

[Test Case]
0. Place files with utf8-invalid file names inside the ~/Documents, ~/Music, or
~/Pictures folders for example, which is not synchronized to Ubuntu One.
1. Ensure the local user account is not connected to an Ubuntu One account yet.
2. Run ubuntuone-control-panel-qt and create a new account, or log into an
existing account.
3. When stepping through the resulting wizard, and arriving on the Computer to
Cloud page, the above UnicodeDecodeError should occur, without this fix. With
the fix, size calculation of the local special folders should succeed without
problem.

[Bug 969285] [NEW] exceptions.TypeError: Expected Glib.Variant, but got StructMeta

2012-03-30 Thread Rick McBride
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 961342 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/961342

Private bug reported:

Setting as private as I'm not sure about the GUIDs I'm seeing in the
log.

I don't see any odd behavior from this, but the appearance of this
traceback in the log raised some flags when I was reviewing it.

[Bug 961536] [NEW] lxc failing to initialize after update of Precise

2012-03-21 Thread Rick McBride
Public bug reported:

I'm getting the following with the most recent update. Logs will follow:

Hmm. That IS interesting then. I'll have to examine the source image.
I've been using that as a lucid baseline for a long time, without any
sort of boot problem.

Re: [Bug 949992] Re: Upgrade from Lucid to Precise results in broken grub configuration

2012-03-09 Thread Rick McBride
Actually, during the dist-manager -d install, I did get a dialog that
was all unknown character blocks in the message and on the buttons. I
don't know what it was asking. It didn't appear to block (I never
answered it, not being able to read it), but it was perhaps that
message. I HAVE seen it in the past, but not during this testing session.

I had meant to reproduce and document that weird dialog, but got
distracted by this problem. I'll go back and get more info on that
either over the weekend or Monday, when I have capacity on my VM host to
make another pre-update clone and run the process again.

The only dialog that I recall, apart from the typical remove these
packages? type things, was to do with restarting services.

The debconf database shows that the following question was presented to
 you at some point:

You chose not to install GRUB to any devices. If you continue, the
boot loader may not be properly configured, and when this computer next
starts up it will use whatever was previously in the boot sector. If
there is an earlier version of GRUB 2 in the boot sector, it may be
unable to load modules or handle the current configuration file.

If you are already using a different boot loader and want to carry on
doing so, or if this is a special environment where you do not need a
boot loader, then you should continue anyway. Otherwise, you should
 install GRUB somewhere.

Continue without installing GRUB?

Do you remember seeing this question? It was intended to strongly
 discourage setups like this ...

Re: [Bug 949992] Re: Upgrade from Lucid to Precise results in broken grub configuration

2012-03-09 Thread Rick McBride
That's meant to be update-manager -d of course.

On 03/09/2012 01:31 PM, Rick McBride wrote:
Actually, during the dist-manager -d install, I did get a dialog that
was all unknown character blocks in the message and on the buttons. I
don't know what it was asking. It didn't appear to block (I never
answered it, not being able to read it), but it was perhaps that
message. I HAVE seen it in the past, but not during this testing session.

I had meant to reproduce and document that weird dialog, but got
distracted by this problem. I'll go back and get more info on that
either over the weekend or Monday, when I have capacity on my VM host to
make another pre-update clone and run the process again.

[Bug 949992] [NEW] Upgrade from Lucid to Precise results in broken grub configuration

2012-03-08 Thread Rick McBride
Public bug reported:

Performed update-manager -d upgrade from lucid VM to precise. On
completion, rebooted, and rather than Precise, I'm confronted with a

grub

prompt.

Attempted recovery by setting root and loading config, but get unknown
command hwmatch when it tries to load the grub.cfg.

Manually loading vmlinuz and initrd after setting root only gets me as
far as a busybox prompt.

Obviously I can't get to the point where I can run ubuntu-bug in that
VM, so my ability to get logs is currently limited.

I'm still attempting recovery of the VM, as it's blocking further Ubuntu
One upgrade testing that I'm engaged in. I'll add further information
if/as I find it.

the only disk associated with this VM is a single 28GB volume.

boot partition is vda1, virtio bus, raw format.

The VM itself is a clone of a reference Lucid image I've been keeping
for tests like this. if the configuration is somehow invalid, I'd like
to know how to correct it.

[Bug 945303] [NEW] HDMI color space is out of whack when connected through an AVR

2012-03-02 Thread Rick McBride
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of Precise Beta on a brand new custom built HTPC with
Intel HD 3000 graphics.

Color via HDMI is completely out of whack color space wise when
connected via HTPC -- Pioneer AVR -- Samsung LCD TV

When connected directly to the Samsung, color is fine. This is not an
acceptable solution, as an HTPC without surround sound is basically
useless to me.

Windows 7 installation works correctly when connected HTPC -- Pioneer
AVR -- Samsung LCD TV.

Not sure what really can be done about it at this point.

Filing report from seperate system as the OS has now been wiped on that
machine.

strangely, I have now seen other wierd behavior. Twice I tried to launch

I launched qt control panel from the terminal, and it then launched,
creating an icon on the launcher that has two icon spaces above it. once
of which gives an ubuntuone mouseover/quickmenu that does nothing.

I was able to consistently reproduce this when bug 933026 was flagged by
apport.

NULL VMA looks suspiciously like something particular to metadata on
affected systems creating an OOB situation somewhere.
