Re: [Bug 365382] Re: acer touchpad not working after upgrade to latest kernel (2.6.28-11)
Update: Tried booting into 2.6.28-11 yesterday, same problem persists. While the keyboard seems to work until I log on, the touchpad refuses to work at all. Same problem as big one, after attempting to use the touchpad, the keyboard stops working completely. Tried disabling the touchpad, but it usually gets re-enabled after booting. I have a strong feeling this has something to do with the elantech driver (idle speculation). I am currently using the 2.6.27 kernel. [Bug 365382] [NEW] acer 3212WLxMi keyboard and mouse not working after upgrade to latest kernel (2.6.28-11)
Public bug reported: After I upgraded to the latest kernel (2.6.28-11) my laptop keyboard and touchpad have stopped working completely. They work perfectly up to the latest .27 kernel series (2.6.27-11) but refuse to work once I boot into .28-11. The following behaviour was observed: KDE 4.2.2 : After booting I am able to enter my login password. Using the touchpad does not move the mouse pointer at all (I have tried using the Fn+TouchPad enable/disable keys too). Also, after I've attempted to use the touchpad, the keyboard stops working for a while (random time) or behaves erratically (randomly repeats one character). GNOME (latest): I installed the ubuntu-desktop package on kubuntu to test if this was a KDE issue. I am able to logon to my GNOME desktop but I'm unable to use the touchpad or the keyboard at all. I also booted from a Jaunty live usb stick to test this out, similar behaviour was observed (Jaunty uses the 2.6.28 series kernel) As this is my first time reporting a bug, I would be really grateful if you guys could let me know what information I can provide to help fix this. So far I've tried comparing the modules list (lsmod) when both kernels load but I couldn't see any differences (I will compare again to be sure). The only difference I've noticed is that in the newer kernel (.28-11) I see a message regarding loading some driver elantech.c (no error, normal loading). I can replicate the message if required but after I boot into the new kernel i will need to type using a virtual keyboard. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- acer 3212WLxMi keyboard and mouse not working after upgrade to latest kernel (2.6.28-11) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365382 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Summary changed: - acer 3212WLxMi keyboard and mouse not working after upgrade to latest kernel (2.6.28-11) + acer touchpad not working after upgrade to latest kernel (2.6.28-11) ** Description changed: After I upgraded to the latest kernel (2.6.28-11) my laptop keyboard and touchpad have stopped working completely. + + Update: I have done a clean install of ubuntu 9.04. Keyboard is working + fine, touchpad is still not working. -- acer touchpad not working after upgrade to latest kernel (2.6.28-11) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365382 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 358943] Re: Harddisk stops working after wakeup
Michele, Can you post the output of the following command ? grep POWERMGMT /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf Is your kernel error message resolved ? BTW, here's what hdparam says -B Set Advanced Power Management feature, if the drive supports it. A low value means aggressive power management and a high value means better performance. Possible settings range from values 1 through 127 (which permit spin-down), and values 128 through 254 (which do not permit spin- down). The highest degree of power management is attained with a setting of 1, and the highest I/O performance with a setting of 254. A value of 255 tells hdparm to disable Advanced Power Management altogether on the drive (not all drives support disabling it, but most do). By default, LMT, when ON_BATTERY, will set it to 1. If you don't like the power saving behavior for your hard drive, you can disable it in /etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf -- Harddisk stops working after wakeup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/358943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I had suspected this. I'm not sure though whether it is a bad hardware of a suspend bug. LMT, by itself, doesn't do much. [Bug 387057] Re: laptop-mode doesn't sense power state changes
Interesting part is that I had the very same problem around a month ago. That was when I realized that laptop-mode never changed its state. Looking more revealed that /etc/acpi/events/ folder didn't have the lm_* event files. I use Debian, and the Debian package lists those files in its Install List. So technically, dpkg was telling me that it had installed the file but then there was no events file. So I re-installed, but that didn't help. So I just went ahead and extracted the laptop-mode deb package and copied the events files manually. Things have since then been working. [Bug 97346] kabc silenty completes after the 1000 record limit
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kaddressbook Hi, I'm not sure if people have come across this problem. If you're using Kontact as your PIM Application and KAB as your Address Book application, you can configure your address book to contact the exchange (ldap) server to get all the address records. The problem is that either ldapsearch or exchange has put a restriction of max 1000 records per query. (You can verify that with the ldapsearch command. It'll terminate after receiving 1000 records). I think kabc's ldap code also inherits the same bug and is only able to fetch 1000 records, after which it silently keeps quiet (It should rather have popped up an error message). Or else have a workaround in place to fetch all the records bypassing this limit I'm attaching a workaround (in Python) which fetches all the records. But there still is a problem. With the workaround in place, I end up with 9000 records. This should be a normal case in any huge organization. But when typing the contact in the "To:" box of Kmail's composer, it ends up being very slow because of the large number of records.
