[Bug 778761] [NEW] Icons for pinning notes missing in Ubuntu package

2011-05-06 Thread Rob Lanphier
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 738200 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738200

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomboy

In the standard Maverick updates package (1.4.2-0ubuntu2), the names of
pinned notes are displayed but the UI for pinning is missing.

Stefan Schweizer also noted this problem:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tomboy/+bug/660525/comments/7

1.4.2-0ubuntu1~ppa~maverick0 does not exhibit this problem.

I've not tried this on Natty.

[Bug 466787] Re: File system check on splash screen is in unreadable format

2009-12-03 Thread Rob Lanphier
Related to bug 459388. The combination of this bug and 459338
originally made me think that there was something really wrong with my
computer, which made it look like the filesystem check was constantly
restarting.

I'm having this problem with Karmic 64-bit, with the NVIDIA GeForce

blanking, followed by the bodges thing in the task bar. Full apport
info is attached.

[Bug 464591] Re: upgrade breaks graphic drivers and x, preventing login or startx

2009-11-01 Thread Rob Lanphier
For me, the problem was as simple as booting with a different .31
kernel. For whatever reason, 2.16.31-14-386 was installed as the
default kernel, causing the problem as described above (error message:
(EE) Failed to load module nvidia (module-specific error, 0), (EE) No
drivers available.). 2.6.31-14-generic was installed as an alternative
kernel, which booted just fine.

[Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new

2008-07-07 Thread Rob Lanphier
** Summary changed:

- Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript performance in Firefox 3 for Linux
+ Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free
nvidia-glx-new

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

  With Ubuntu 8.04

  Firefox 3.0 has extremely slow Ajax/Javascript performance (I'm not sure
- exactly what).
+ exactly what). Probably CSS related.

  #1 Gmail scrolls very slowly (compare this by switching gmail to HTML
  version at the bottom of inbox)

  #2 Javascript images open/close/transition extremely slow
  examples:
   http://www.shacknews.com/ (images near the top of page,
when transitioning, bring FF3.0 to its knees)
   http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/downloads/ssotd/#latest
 (images opening and switching to next one)
   http://www.transmissionbt.com/screenshots.php  (opening
and closing images are very choppy)

There are many more, those are just a few.

  I have both enabled and disabled Compiz but the problem is still there.
  I am not a web developer and can't pinpoint exactly what sort of code is
  causing the extreme slowness but I have tested it on multiple machines
  to make sure. I have compared it to my Windows XP dual boot box and the
  difference is night and day so it is definitely a Linux issue. Also on
  a Mac OS 10.4 machine its noticeably faster.

  This bug:   https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217580
  Is similar but only deals with Gmail, it is now known to be widespread issue.
 With performance this slow Firefox 3.0 beta should never have been the default
browser. Unless its just the few machines I've used of course.

[Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new

2008-07-07 Thread Rob Lanphier
I spent the better part of an afternoon fighting this problem (or one
much like it) on my laptop. Free nv driver works, but the restricted
driver causes really obnoxious stalls, to the point where the app dims
out multiple times for several seconds on some pages.

Page which demonstrates the behavior most severely (ironically):
http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2008/02/firefox-3-ultimate-feature-performance/

I saved a local copy of the CSS, and did a binary search to find the offending
CSS.  Here it is:
#page {
background: url(images/structure/backgroundColumns.png) repeat-y;
background-position: 3px;
margin-top: 50px;
width: 970px;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
border: 1px solid #D9D9D9;
z-index: 10;
}

Readding pretty much anything on the #page entity causes rendering
stalls. I started readding individual lines from this chunk, but there
didn't seem to be one particular culprit. It seems that most/all of
these lines contribute to the sluggishness somehow, to varying degrees.

[Bug 120305] Re: [regression]Cannot modprobe snd-hda-intel following upgrade to Feisty

2007-10-22 Thread Rob Lanphier
I'm not sure whether to file a separate issue or change the title of
this issue from Feisty to Gutsy (or keep looking for an issue that's
already been filed that I missed). Sound worked on my Feisty machine
(albeit as installed by System76, rather than a fresh install performed
myself). Upon upgrade to Gutsy, sound no longer worked. Turns out I
had the same problem as several others described here:
