[Bug 1305839] Re: FFe: Support for Third Party Driver Installation
So I was informed that prompting for non-free during installation would break unmanned installs of MAAS, which causes problems for our cloud install plans. I'm all for supporting our commitment to non-free, but at the end of the day, we're also committed to ensuring our users have a great experience with Ubuntu. If users are unable to install because their drives aren't recognized, then the entire non-free argument becomes irrelevant. The argument of telling our partners to opensource their drivers, is valid, but will take awhile, e.g. Nvidia on the desktop...and could possibly never occur. I'll leave the decision up to the engineers and release team, but I hope we can come up with something that allows our users the freedom to use Ubuntu on the hardware of their choice. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1305839 Title: FFe: Support for Third Party Driver Installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maas/+bug/1305839/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1305839] Re: FFe: Support for Third Party Driver Installation
I'm in favor of the approach suggested in comment #12, whereby we prompt the user during the first install of MAAS, as to whether they want to allow the install of non-free drivers for such cases where there are no free ones available, e.g. . Once they answer, we point out that the setting can be reversed in the "Settings" menu if the MAAS GUI. Could we move forward with this approach? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1305839 Title: FFe: Support for Third Party Driver Installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maas/+bug/1305839/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1194574] [NEW] indicator-datetime-service crashed with SIGSEGV in dbusmenu_menuitem_child_delete()
Public bug reported: Probably a dup of bug #1133682, but filing just in case. It appears to happen when my message indicator is active. I use pidgin for IRC, so it's pretty active during the day. I usually notice my cpu fan spinning at a high rate, then I do a 'top' to see unity-panel-service running at 100% load. I kill -9 that process, it respawns to a normal load, and the crash occurs. [Bug 1193094] [NEW] cups-backend-bjnp not working
Public bug reported: I tried adding my printer (MX700) to my mother's newly installed 13.04 machine and it didn't work. The system printer application failed to locate the printer on the network. I manually added the printer uri and the system would communicate with the printer, but printing would fail before ever starting...with some odd backend communications error in the cups-error log. I then went and installed the older version built for raring out of my ppa (robbiew/cups-bjnp) and the system discovered the network printer just fine and printed. I had to return the laptop to my mother, but my Saucy installed system has the same old cups-bjnp package which works...I can probably recreate and attach logs, but only willing to do it if someone wants to actively debug this. Otherwise, I'll just stay on my ppa build. ** Affects: cups-bjnp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Affects: cups-bjnp (Ubuntu Raring) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Also affects: cups-bjnp (Ubuntu Raring) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: cups-bjnp (Ubuntu Raring) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: cups-bjnp (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1193094 Title: cups-backend-bjnp not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-bjnp/+bug/1193094/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1172215] Re: [FFe] Please include juju-core 1.10.0 in Ubuntu 13.04
Given the timing, I admit the release team is ultimately "do their job", and am mostly frustrated with my own team's efforts around this. The right approach is to leverage backports and get the package fixed and uploaded into 13.10 ASAP. We can then update websites/wikis/documentation to make sure our users know how to make sure they're using the supported version of juju. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1172215 Title: [FFe] Please include juju-core 1.10.0 in Ubuntu 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1172215/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1172215] Re: [FFe] Please include juju-core 1.10.0 in Ubuntu 13.04
There is a flawed assumption in the above statement, that users will know to enable backports in the first place. I understand the concern of the release team, but the push for getting this version into 13.04 is to help alleviate the current less-than desirable situation in the juju community, and ultimately get our users over to the supported version of juju going forward. I strongly feel that the efforts to block this are more philosophical, than practical.

[Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()
@Rainer, Actually, having a workaround by definition lessens the severity, as if someone wants to still run Skype, they can. With that said, I understand your frustration...and have a solution ;-): 1) Place the attached "skype-workaround" file in /usr/local/bin: $ sudo cp skype-workaround /usr/local/bin 2) Set it to execution mode: $ chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/skype-workaround 3) Backup /usr/share/applications/skype.desktop: $ sudo cp /usr/share/applications/skype.desktop /root/skype.desktop.bak 4) Place the attached "skype.desktop" file in /usr/share/applications: $ sudo cp skype.desktop /usr/share/applications Done. Hey Joseph, I think after doing some more digging, this is a Network Manager bug (I filed it under bug #1118446). I checked Craig's WifiSyslog.txt attachment and it has the same error message as what is recorded in this new bug: NetworkManager[pid]: nl_recvmsgs() error: (-33) Dump inconsistency detected, interrupted I also think it's NM, because I can recover by running: sudo service network-manager restart. I can still test your kernels, but I think if it were iwlwifi related, bouncing nm would not have helped.
