[Bug 223490] Re: No Desktop Effects with Hardy 8.04

2008-04-28 Thread Robert Hilbrich
Okay, I did some debugging and my T40p failed the following Test in
/usr/bin/compiz:

---

#don't run on laptops using ati driver
if laptop-detect; then
for DRV in ati radeon; do
 if egrep -q "Loading
${XORG_DRIVER_PATH}${DRV}_drv\.so" $LOG &&
! egrep -q "Unloading
${XORG_DRIVER_PATH}${DRV}_drv\.so" $LOG;
 then
verbose "Found laptop using ${DRV} driver. \n"
 return 1
 fi
 done
 fi
---

Why is it supposed to fail?

[Bug 223490] [NEW] No Desktop Effects with Hardy 8.04

2008-04-27 Thread Robert Hilbrich
Public bug reported:

I have an IBM T40p with an ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility Graphics. After i
upgraded to Hardy, my desktop effects stopped working.

-
# compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
Found laptop using radeon driver.
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

When I start manually and set the env-variable "SKIP_CHECKS=yes" it is
working from command line, but not within the gnome-visual-appearance
program.

I did an upgrade and not a fresh & new install from 7.10 -> 8.04.

[Bug 190950] Re: [hardy] gnome-desktop-environment is broken

2008-02-26 Thread Robert Hilbrich
Renate said:

Her GDM is starting in the save-mode. As gnome-desktop-environment is
depending on gnome-keyring-manager, she asks whether that might have to
do with my issue.

(Although I doubt that, I just think, it is/was a packaging issue,
because it just wants gnome-keyring-manager >= 2.20.0, which cannot be
installed ... ?!)

[Bug 96910] Re: [feisty] Firefox Crashed [EMAIL PROTECTED] [@ nsXPCWrappedJSClass::CallMethod]

2007-06-06 Thread Robert Hilbrich
it happened when viewing parts of the source-code of:

http://www.gates-truck.de/ua/index.php?page=ul

like selecting parts of the webpage and then right click and click on
view source code for selected webpage. Maybe the form was too big.

HOWEVER, it does not happen anymore. Seems like it is fixed. Thanks a
lot! Great work.

  Robert Hilbrich

[Bug 115021] Maximized Windows Titlebar not clickable

2007-05-16 Thread Robert Hilbrich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Titlebar is not clickable when two gnome terminal windows are open.

To reproduce:

Open two Terminal Windows. Maximize both by dbl clicking on the titlebar.
Now try to close the terminal window on top! The one that gets closed is the
one below.
AND the remaining one (the former top window) gets a weird title bar which cant
be clicked to minimize or close it.

WORK AROUND

While the terminal is maximized, position the cursor right in the middle
of the window, keep the left mouse button pressed and move the window.
It then gets un-maximized and you can click on it again ... confused?!
:)

[Bug 107571] Re: Banshee crashes when deleting files from disk

2007-04-27 Thread Robert Hilbrich
There may be several issues that could take their role in this crash:

1) My MP3 files are on external USB drive, that is automatically mounted by
Ubuntu
2) I use smart-playlists (by search) to organize my mp3 file. deleting a file
in a playlist makes banshee crash after the 3rd or 4th file ...

It is NOT limited to Podcasts!

[Bug 107262] CUPS directory interfaces needs write access by cupsys

2007-04-17 Thread Robert Hilbrich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

I have a DELL Printer 1710n coming with Unix drivers for CUPS.
The driver's install script wants to copy an "interface" script to
/etc/cups/interfaces.
(I know, it is rarely used.)

This copying process is achieved by using lpadmin - running as cups
user, which is cupsys.

The installation fails, because /etc/cups/interfaces is not writeable by
cupsys.
