[Bug 1511113] [NEW] GRUB can't write to the H/D in a dual boot install
Public bug reported: I'm trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on an ASUS Netbook with Win8 on it. I'm trying for a dual boot install. I've tried installing Ubuntu with Secure Boot both enabled and disabled and appear to get the same error regardless. The end result is that GRUB messes with the Windows boot loader resulting in an unbootable H/D. I was able to restore (reset) Win8 from the recovery partition. I haven't tried installing Ubuntu on the whole drive because this is a friend's netbook and I have no way to recover Win8 if the install fails when installing on the complete H/D. As a last ditch effort, I'll try the install on the whole drive, but I want to exhaust my other options first. [Bug 1432484] Re: ctrl+alt+t hot key doesn't open terminal
I have the same symptoms as #16. ctrl+alt+t doesn't work, but ctrl+alt+y, for example, does work if I assign ctrl-alt-y to the terminal shortcut. I have 15.04 running on a System 76 Kudu Professional. ctrl-alt-l doesn't work either. Also, as #8 mentioned, the PrtSc/SysRq button appears to do nothing -- it certainly doesn't fire up snapshot. But I can, for example, replace the "print" shortcuts with ctrl-alt-p, alt-p, shaft-alt-p, ctrl-alt-[, alt-[ and shift-alt-[, and I get normal snapshot behavior with the revised shortcuts. It is like there is something else interfering with the ctrl-alt-t, ctrl-alt-l and PrtSc/SysRq shortcuts. Other than those items, I appear to be 100% functional. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432484 Title: ctrl+alt+t hot key doesn't open terminal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1432484/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1242092] Re: xsane hangs up while scanning for devices
I have had a similar problem, however I use a different distribution, but I offer this advice if it is helpful: I recommend creating two files in /etc/systemd/system/ as recommended in the documentation (man saned) Here is a copy: SYSTEMD CONFIGURATION for systemd we need to add 2 configuation files in /etc/systemd/system. The first file we need to add here is called saned.socket. It shall have the following contents: [Unit] Description=saned incoming socket [Socket] ListenStream=6566 Accept=yes MaxConnections=1 [Install] WantedBy=sockets.target The second file to be added is saned@.service with the following con‐ tents: [Unit] Description=Scanner Service Requires=saned.socket [Service] ExecStart=/usr/sbin/saned User=saned Group=saned StandardInput=null StandardOutput=syslog StandardError=syslog # Environment=SANE_CONFIG_DIR=/etc/sane.d SANE_DEBUG_DLL=255 Is you need to set an environment variable for saned like SANE_CON‐ FIG_DIR you will have to remove the # on the last line and set the variable appropriately. Multiple variables can be set by separating the assignments by spaces as shown in the example above. I can confirm this solved my problem, and I believe it is due to changing over to systemd from the old start up scripts. You can also run this check if you want to, before creating the files: Open xsane, simple-scan, or hp-scan and let it hang.. Open a terminal session and log in as root Run "saned' manually You will notice that the hung app springs to life and everything is so happy.. this will confirm the need to get systemd working. In the old system it would start automatically, but now as I understand it only runs when you ask for it... that is if it knows what you are saying... and that is what the two files are for. If someone else can confirm this fix, it would be valuable, and then the logical step would be to file a bug request to have these files included into some package to prevent this broken by default kind of behavior. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1242092 Title: xsane hangs up while scanning for devices To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xsane/+bug/1242092/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 728558] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on DELL Precision M4500
Yesterday right after I installed Unbuntu Linux (version 2.6.35-22 #33-Ubuntu) on my new Dell M4500, the touchpad worked fine -- I set up vertical and horizontal scrolling and left-edge zooming. But after a reboot (or maybe the updates), the touchpad is no longer recognized, with the exact symptoms detailed above. The current version after the updates is 2.6.35-27-generic-pae #48-Ubuntu. I note that the touchpad is now not recognized by 2.6.35-22 when I boot to my CD. [Bug 392532] Re: apache2.2-common: /etc/init.d/apache2 script is empty
Hi I have noticed the same problem. My /etc/init.d/apache2 file is emptied occasionally. I also noticed that new files apache2.1 apache2.2 etc was created in the same directory. It seemed like the handling of logfiles where older files are kept with a .'integer' extension. I have several times copied back the apache2.1 file to its original name. But now and then maybe a week or so has to pass, then it happens again. With the result that apache doesnt start at reboot. I also noticed some time ago that the time stamp of the emptied filed was close to (or same dont remember) en entry in some logfile saying syslogd restart or similar. Sorry I couldn't find the exact info right now. So my suspicion is that somewhere the path of the logdirectory is mixed with the /etc/init.d directory/files. my system: uname -a Linux myran 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux dpkg -l | grep apache ii apache22.2.11-2ubuntu2.1 Apache HTTP Server metapackage ii apache2-mpm-worker 2.2.11-2ubuntu2.1 Apache HTTP Server - high speed threaded model ii apache2-utils 2.2.11-2ubuntu2.1 utility programs for webservers ii apache2.2-common 2.2.11-2ubuntu2.1 Apache HTTP Server common files -- apache2.2-common: /etc/init.d/apache2 script is empty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/392532 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
