[Bug 754777] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup (Blitter IPEHR: 0x13000002, Render IPEHR: 0x02000006)
Hi, guys. Thank you all for your kindness help. This bug seems finally solved on my computer by change the kernel version. I tested 3 different kernel images, and they are: 1. I added a PPA line 'ppa:kernel-ppa' in my synaptic package repository, and update the software package list. Then tried 2.6.39-0 kernel which listed in synaptic package list. Unfortunately, my GUI still lockup, and even I try to remote login my laptop, restart GDM, the computer completely dead and I have to push the power button to hard reboot it. Seems newer kernel also has the problem, I removed this kernel. 2. The second kernel I've test was downloaded from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.37.6-natty/, my system is i386 with 4G RAM, there is only generic version. It works fine, GUI never lockup, but when I test LibraOffice Calc, the Calc crashed few times (it's acceptable). The shortage of this kernel is: there are just 2.7G RAM available. So, I continue search other choices. This kernel still remains in my computer. 3. After some search in google, I found it here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/2.6.37-12.26/+build/2125798. I downloaded 3 debs including PAE kernel image and the header files. Till now, after 1 days test, the 2.6.37 PAE kernel image is running very fine on my laptop. I enabled compiz effect in traditional gnome desktop, opened several XLS files in LibraOffice Calc, the animations and shadow effect looks so lovely. And the most important: the damn GUI lockup never occurred again till now. yeah, few software crashes sometime, but, no GUI lockup. Maybe more people will also meet this problem when they purchase a new computer with Sandy-Bridge CPU. Hope someday the bug can be fixed after more lockup case be reported. [Bug 754777] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup (Blitter IPEHR: 0x13000002, Render IPEHR: 0x02000006)
Hi @Bryce, thank you for your information. Is that means I should manually install some PPA kernel and test it? I'd try it later. For the past few days, my system locked several times, then, it's more and more clearly shows that: the froze almost always occurred with my LibraOffice Calc ( very strange ). I tested three system options: 1. Ubuntu Classic Environment, 2. Ubuntu Classic Environment (No Effect). 3. Ubuntu Class Environment with your new intel driver. ( upgrade by official apt). The frozen always happened within 3 minute after I start LibraOffice. If I start LibraOffice Calc for just few seconds and close it immediately, after that the frozen won't occurred. But if I want use LibraOffice Calc for a long time, I MUST set 'fbdev' as my default graphics driver, otherwise the will occurred soon. In the past few days, the apport bug collection tool did not shows up after everytime this bug occurred, I don't know why until I did some research on google, it told me I should modify my configuration in "/etc/default/apport", and set the default value as '1', hehe. Now I've submitted a new bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/777028 . It might contains some useful information for you guys. [Bug 754777] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup (Blitter IPEHR: 0x13000002, Render IPEHR: 0x02000006)
Hi, @slese, I also formatted my hard driver and fresh installed latest release (burn a CD) of Natty. But I am not as luck like you. The bug still existed. A very strange thing is: This problem almost occurred when I am working. I mean: today after I fresh installed Natty, I login gnome traditional environment with effect, and run a lot of software. It runs just very fine, until ... I start LibraOffice Calc. I've suspected this possibility before, but today, after I open a Microsoft Excel format data file (with .xls extension), copy some data from some cells, and try to paste these data into gnome-editor, the GUI locked. It's so strange. This problem is almost happened when I am working (LibraOffice Calc, gnome-editor, gnome-terminal, firefox/chrome, and some other software). This is strange. I will focus on when this problem happened and try to find the relationship with LibraOffice Calc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/754777 Title: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup (Blitter IPEHR:0x1302, Render IPEHR: 0x0206) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 754777] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup (Blitter IPEHR: 0x13000002, Render IPEHR: 0x02000006)
Hi Bryce, thank you for your help. I had reported more than 5 bug reports of this issue ( I don't actually remember the numbers, and some of them were marked as "it affected me", did not reported as new thread). Here is another bug that I report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/761957 The freeze happened on my laptop almost every bootup when I use 'intel' driver (means there is no "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"). My computer is a brand new bought HP laptop with Intel Sandy Bridge I5 2410m CPU and an integrated GPU (HD3000). The old Ubuntu release did not support Sandy Bridge GPU (refer to http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODk2OA ), so I fresh installed Natty. Sure I can reproduce the freeze, but I can not confirm which software caused this problem. Usually it happened with LibreOffice, Firefox, Chrome, gnome-terminal, gedit. Sometime when GUI frozen, my mouse point can still moving but keyboard is dead. I like Gnome classic (with 3D effect) so it's sure no Unity process running. I will try to disable 3D effect and test the old driver and new PPA driver when I back home, then it's possible to remote login and kill X process when the lockup happened. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/754777 Title: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup (Blitter IPEHR:0x1302, Render IPEHR: 0x0206) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 727594] Re: [i915gm] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x02000004)
Hi, unfortunately, the PPA patch did not fix the problem for me. I am running Firefox, LibreOffice, gnome-terminal, gedit and a third part IM software, when I am typing in the gnome-terminal, the X locked, I have to force power off my laptop (by push the power button) because I don't have another computer to remote login this time. Now I set "fbdev" as my GPU driver. It runs OK except the speed.
