[Bug 960084] Re: changing font size in gnome-terminal changes terminal dimensions
Thankfully, I stopped using Unity because of this bug. [Bug 960084] Re: changing font size in gnome-terminal changes window dimensions.
I have tried this on every possible login session I can find and the only one that fails is the default Ubuntu session. If I log in using the Ubuntu 2D session, it works there. [Bug 960084] Re: changing font size in gnome-terminal changes window dimensions.
Yes, but I believe there is a misunderstanding. I am not saying there is a problem with the window getting larger on the screen, I am saying that changing font size changes the number of rows and columns of characters in the newly resized windows. If I start with an 80x25 sized window, then decrease and increase the font size a couple times, the new window will have fewer rows and columns. Do not focus on the number of pixels, but rather number of rows and columns. That information is no longer very easy to determine because the window size is no longer displayed when resizing (useful information I wish had been retained). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/960084 Title: changing font size in gnome-terminal changes window dimensions. [Bug 960084] Re: changing font size in gnome-terminal changes window dimensions.
After testing with XFCE and ICEWM, I am convinced that this problem is unlikely to be gnome-terminal and almost certainly the window manager. I looked at the mapped files via /proc//smaps for all three flavors of window managers and the only differences were related to font and sounds/notifications. [Bug 960084] Re: changing font size in gnome-terminal changes window dimensions.
I know _NOTHING_ about window manager calls, but why is this only affecting compiz/unity. On the same box, I can start a gnome-terminal under icewm and increase or decrease font size all day long without an issue. Are you saying that gnome-terminal is calling terminal_window_set_size_force_grid() with wrong parameters or something and is just so happens that icewm interprets that correctly? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/960084 Title: changing font size in gnome-terminal changes window dimensions. [Bug 960084] Re: changing font size in gnome-terminal changes window dimensions.
If the window has the dimensions of 80 columns by 25 rows, I change the font size down and up a couple steps ending back at the original size and now my window has dimensions of 68x22, which component is likely to be the source of the problem. [Bug 284483] Re: gnome-power-manager is generating excessive interupts
I reported a similar problem which got dup'd to this bug. Not certain they are related yet, but I do have one other detail to add. If I 'sudo rmmod gspca_vc032x" the gnome-power-manager wakeups fall in frequency. I do think there may be another problem with gnome-power-manager. If I strace gnome-power-manager, I get: socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 3 connect(3, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/.X11-unix/X0"}, 110) = 0 getpeername(3, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/.X11-unix/X0"}, [20]) = 0 ... gettimeofday({1224875772, 941304}, NULL) = 0 poll([{fd=4, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=8, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=13, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=14, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=17, events=POLLIN}, {fd=10, events=POLLIN|POLLPRI}, {fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN}], 10, 100) = 0 gettimeofday({1224875773, 44717}, NULL) = 0 read(3, 0xa0b05d4, 4096)= -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable) gettimeofday({1224875773, 44956}, NULL) = 0 And repeat the poll, gtod, read, gtod loop. [Bug 287321] [NEW] gnome-power-manager dims screen to black on startup
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager When I first boot the machine, the screen stays at normal brightness for as long as I leave it at the gdm prompt. Once I log in, the brightness icon has a little red dot in the center and the gnome-power-manager icon is not present. Approximately 5 seconds later, the screen begins to dim until it is completely black. If, while it is fading to black, I try to increase the brightness, it flashes brighter and then continues the fade as if nothing had happened. What I mean by that is the time from login brightness until total black is the same even if I press the brightness increase button numerous times. Once it has stabilized at black, I can increase the brightness and the brightness up/down functions normally. Suspend/resume has no effect. If I kill and restart gnome-power-manager, the fade-to-black recurs. I am attaching the output from gnome-power-manager --verbose. Before the fade begins, the last line of output I see is at 20:34:33, then the 20:35:06 is printed as the display begins to fade. I think it may have _SOMETHING_ to do with the FN:gpm_backlight_brightness_evaluate_and_set,456 - emitting brightness-changed : 0 message. [Bug 285291] [NEW] mac80211 hangs on resume (debugfs related)
Public bug reported: I actually found this bug using a community kernel and kdb. On my iwl3945 based laptop, when I resume from suspend, I get a few seconds of input before the keyboard locks up. The mouse continues to move. If I wait a few seconds and move the rf-kill switch to the off position and wait 20 or so seconds, the machine works again, but any time I try to enable networking from there on out, it goes back into the locked up state (keyboard interrupts are not processed). I tracked this down to a bug in mac80211's use of debugfs. There are two options for fixing this, one is to turn off CONFIG_MAC80211_DEBUGFS. The other is to backport commit 63044e9f54b6bac50d2380bf4d14f63e9e7de72b from Linus's 2.6.28-rc1 tree. One other bug which I came across when I was locating the above commit is c74e90a9e37c4a3923905189a6ebbd7ef61e6e67 which may or may not be in the ubuntu kernel. I did not check.
