[Bug 876839] Re: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic

2011-11-24 Thread Rodrigo Moya
As I already said, gnome control center does not use GConf anymore for
this, since a year already, so what we need is a list of apps that still
use GConf, and we need to migrate them to use GSettings or, as a
fallback, make them use the correct GConf keys. This specific GConf keys
are not used anymore on the GSettings version, so even though we have
the GConf keys synced up with their corresponding GSettings keys (via a
plugin in gnome-settings-daemon), of course only the keys that are
changed in GSettings are synced. This means that the keys we don't use
will always have the same value in GConf.

So could people list the applications affected, or even better, add a
task to this bug for that specific app, so that the responsible for each
of those apps can have a look at patching it. But again, there's nothing
that can be done in gnome-control-center/gnome-settings-daemon

[Bug 841566] Re: Can not open Ubuntu One address book: "book backend is opening"

2011-10-28 Thread Rodrigo Moya
This might be caused by evo-couchdb not being able to contact
desktopcouch, which can be because of a few reasons. So to help us
determine what's the problem, could you please quit thunderbird, and
then, on a terminal, run the following:

$ killall -9 e-addressbook-factory
$ export COUCHDB_DEBUG_MESSAGES=1
$ /usr/lib/evolution/e-addressbook-factory

then run thunderbird again, and when you see those error messages again,
please copy all the output in the terminal and paste it here.

[Bug 864618] Re: sets $LANG to a language name

2011-10-19 Thread Rodrigo Moya
Martin, my plan was to fix the issues that that patch tries to solve in
g-c-c 3.2.1 and then completely remove this patch from the package. I
could just fix a couple, since the others seemed a bit risky for a SRU,
so the patch from Gunnar fixes this bug really for Oneiric users. There
shouldn't be any impact for stable users, since we are getting the list
of languages from another place anyway, so commenting out that call
doesn't really affect much. My plan is to completely remove this Ubuntu-
specific patch for Precise and, if possible, in a late SRU for Oneiric.

So, this should be safe, has been tested for a couple of weeks now. The
2 variables are initialized at the beginning of the function, so no
problem with that.

[Bug 876839] Re: Proxy GUI in 11.10 does not configure socks proxy for HTTP traffic

2011-10-18 Thread Rodrigo Moya
As with the banshee bug (which I just uploaded a fix for), this needs
changes in the applications, not gnome-control-center. We have stopped
using some of the keys, so their values are not changed in GSettings and
hence not propagated to GConf. Those apps should really check the host
for socks, and if it's not empty, use it. So I guess there's nothing in
g-c-c / g-s-d that can be done to fix this.

[Bug 877326] [NEW] SRU: Update to 3.2.1 upstream release

2011-10-18 Thread Rodrigo Moya
Public bug reported:

gnome-settings-daemon 3.2.1 includes several fixes, some of which are
already included in our 3.2.0 package, and some of which are not, so it
would be great to get them all, since there have been several fixes for
the color and power plugins specially:

not of just having a distro patch, so John, could you please discuss the
idea with the GNOME designers, please?

[Bug 825280] Re: Repeated Ubuntu One address book errors

2011-10-10 Thread Rodrigo Moya
For evolution-couchdb it should be fixed indeed, haven't seen reports of
that problem with other backends, so I don't think we need a release
note at all.

Also, about this bug, does it still happen with the latest Oneiric
packages? As I said, this should already be fixed, so please make sure
you have the latest packages installed.

[Bug 861158] Re: After reverting to "no proxy" /system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy in gconf stays activated. i

2011-10-06 Thread Rodrigo Moya
Some of the keys that were used in GConf are no longer used (although
are still present in the gsettings schemas in gsetting-desktop-schemas),
so even though we are propagating the GSettings keys' values to GConf,
some have a different meaning. Banshee should check the "host" and
"port" keys for each proxy type (http, https, ftp) not the others. In
fact, use_http_proxy is not propagated.

We are removing the GConf plugin in gnome-settings-daemon for 3.4, and
removing all the keys that are not used, so Banshee should really use
GSettings ASAP.

For Oneiric, I'll have a look at having a fix.

[Bug 862154] [NEW] [UIFE] Add back the "never turn screen off" option

2011-09-29 Thread Rodrigo Moya
Public bug reported:

The screen panel in the GNOME control center doesn't offer the option to
never turn the screen off, which was present in Natty. Adding it is very
easy, as we just need a new item in the combo box and gnome-settings-
daemon already knows what to do if the timeout is 0 (which is what we
would map the new item in the combo to). But we need to add a new string
to the UI that doesn't have an existing translation in g-c-c itself
(although it's present in other packages, like evolution-3.2, aptitude,
cups, glade3, gnome-disk-utility, gnome-user-share, nautilus, and a
whole lot of other places).

So asking for permission to translation and documentation teams, and for
the best way to include this new translation.

[Bug 860485] Re: bad default setting: suspend after 30min when plugged in

2011-09-28 Thread Rodrigo Moya
In Natty we had the same behavior of suspending when idle on battery by
default, right Seb?

I'm not arguing what's best though, so I'm happy to use whatever default
makes more sense.

[Bug 832603] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

2011-09-28 Thread Rodrigo Moya
Is anyone experiencing this crash consistently (i.e. more than just once
when upgrading)? If so, can you please try my patch? To do so:

$ bzr branch lp:~ubuntu-desktop/gnome-settings-daemon/ubuntu test-gsd-fix
$ cd test-gsd-fix
$ bzr bd -- -b

after building, packages will be in ../build-area, so please install
those and have a try. For other people, I'd appreciate some testing
also, to make sure nothing breaks with the fix.

[Bug 832603] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_simple_async_result_complete()

2011-09-28 Thread Rodrigo Moya
David, this fix is just for the symptom, not the real problem, which is
why _stop is being called. I'm still looking at the best way to fix it,
which so far seems to use the _sync version of g_bus_get, to avoid
undesired callbacks, or keep a way to cancel the ongoing dbus call.

fixed in GIT (both master and 3-2 branch) and is coming in the next

[Bug 849901] Re: unable to reach ubuntu-One Couchdb adressbook

2011-09-14 Thread Rodrigo Moya
Can you please quit evolution and, on a terminal, run the following:

$ killall -9 e-addressbook-factory
$ export COUCHDB_DEBUG_MESSAGES=1
$ /usr/lib/evolution/e-addressbook-factory

then open Evolution and try accessing the U1 addressbook, and when it
fails, please copy all output in the terminal and paste it here
