[Bug 54225] Re: Dependency relationships allow core and drivers to be out of sync

2006-08-04 Thread Rodrigo Novo
The binary-only fglrx driver is not available (yet) due to licensing
options, but its a matter of (few) days until it is released.

The only known reason for you to have an outdated version of xserver-
xorg-video-ati is if you upgraded from Dapper to Edgy early in the
development cycle (first two weeks of development). If you did so, the
'xorg' package was uninstalled, and you should install it back.

If possible, please report here if installing 'xorg' back solves the
problem for you - it should install/update all X.Org 7.1 that might be
missing, or outdated.

[Bug 55022] Re: [EDGY] Xorg won't start

2006-08-07 Thread Rodrigo Novo
The fglrx (binary ATI) driver hasn't been updated for X.Org 7.1 yet, due
to licensing issues. This is likely to be fixed in the next 12-24 hours,
though.

You have two choices:

1. Wait for the next upload of linux-restricted-modules package (which
contains the 'fglrx' driver

2. Use the open source driver (called 'ati'). For that, you'll need to
update /etc/X11/xorg.conf to refer to 'ati' instead of 'fglrx' for its
video driver.

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: xorg => linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17
   Importance: Untriaged => High
   Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- [EDGY] Xorg won't start
+ Binary ATI driver needs update for X.Org 7.1

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xorg
+ ATI binary driver (fglrx) needs to be updated to version 8.27.10
+ (compatible with X.Org 7.1)

+ Original bug report below:
+
+ --- starts here ---
  Hi,

Since a few days now, X refuses to start on my Edgy. It complains about
the server version being different than the drivers version I think (I
will give the exact error message later).

I usually use fglrx driver, I tried fbdev & vesa but none of them works
anymore. Maybe just some xorg packages that have not been updated yet?

Anyway it would be nice to have some infos on this.

I'm also marking this bug for the right package (xserver-xorg-video-

Kaleo,

DRI appears to be enabled on your machine, see:

(II) I810(0): [drm] installed DRM signal handler
(II) I810(0): [DRI] installation complete
(II) I810(0): direct rendering: Enabled

(from your Xorg.0.log)

What is the output of 'xdriinfo'?

On my i945gm, I get this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ xdriinfo

Meaning that DRI is enabled for this board, and that it uses driver i915

[Bug 57283] Re: latest xserver fails

2006-08-22 Thread Rodrigo Novo
Brent,

thanks for the bug report.

Do you have any external repositories enabled on this machine (such as
for support for Xgl or AIGLX) ?

To install the old version of xorg-server-core, please type:

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core=1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.2

Also, please note that, apparently this is more a support request than a
bug report.

[Bug 57153] Re: xorg-server 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.3 breaks X: "no screens found"

2006-08-22 Thread Rodrigo Novo
(thanks Colin and Daniel for answering this before me :) )

I was asked this same question in a private email, a few hours ago, here
goes the answer I gave:

urgency=high has no influence on the speed a package is
built/published on Ubuntu (meaning this field is not used by Ubuntu's build
system). Ubuntu uses different algorithms to calculate the priority of a
build: -security & -updates get higher priority, packages on main get
higher priority than packages on universe, packages with many
dependencies (such as xorg-server) get *very* high priority.

In other words: this xorg-server update for Dapper was built
*immediately*, after it was uploaded to the archives.

Finally, I can assure you this bug was taken care of with extreme
care, and in a rather urgent manner. (I started dealing with it as soon
as I woke up in the morning)

[Bug 57400] Re: No ChangeLog for fix of bug 57153

2006-08-23 Thread Rodrigo Novo
There is a changelog for xorg-server 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.4. It is not
possible to build a debian package without a changelog entry, for that
matter.

The relevant changelog can be read on your locally installed package, or
here, if you don't have it ->

http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/x/xorg-server/xorg-
server_1.0.2-0ubuntu10.4/changelog

I'm also pasting it here, just in case.

xorg-server (1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.4) dapper-updates; urgency=low

  * Reverted patch 005_pci_domain.dpatch -> breaks PCI setup for many users.
This patch will need further work before it is reintegrated into
xorg-server again.

Marking bug as rejected.

[Bug 21168] Re: X (at gdm startup) is garbled (except for mouse pointer)

2006-08-23 Thread Rodrigo Novo
If possible, it would be nice to check if you can still reproduce this
problem with the current development of Ubuntu. 3D support was worked
very hard on in the last few weeks, and the whole stack of relevant
packages (libdrm, mesa, xorg-server and xserver-xorg-video-ati) have
been updated.

Note that you won't need to reinstalll your machine. Our livecd attempts
to boot and configure X.Org with the correct driver, and the best
resolution possible.

You can download it from here -> http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-
live/current/

Finally, the *current* (20060823) image is broken (unrelated to X.Org),
when/if you download it, please download the image from 20060824 onwards
(when it becomes available)

Thanks in advance for the testing.

You mean the git for xserver-xorg-video-ati, or some other project (such
as xorg-server, mesa, etc)?

An update of xserver-xorg-video-ati is planned for the next few
days/weeks, as soon as a new version is released (but if no release is
done in the next three weeks, I'll package the git source directly)

[Bug 23408] Re: Problems with xorg, autodetection of MGA 200 and SDM-M51

2006-08-23 Thread Rodrigo Novo
Lucas, according to the Xorg.6.log file you attached to this bug, the
mga driver can detect the 1024x768 resolution correctly - this seems to
be a DDC detection problem, not a driver issue.

If possible, please attach the output of "sudo ddcprobe", and "sudo
xresprobe mga".

Thank you in advance!

appears to be a DDC problem)

[Bug 37525] Re: truetype fonts scrambled (see screenshot)

2006-08-23 Thread Rodrigo Novo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 33792 ***

This bug is a duplicate of bug 33792. (nvidia binary driver problem).
There is not much we can do besides:

1. contacting nvidia about this bug (done)
2. hope for a driver update that fixes the problem

There are a few workarounds you can try, though:

1. Check if antialiasing is disabled, and enable it, in this case
2. Check if Render or Composite extensions are enabled, and try disabling one
of them.

[Bug 41106] Re: Black screen during install after configuring of xserver (on certain intel graphics cards)

2006-08-23 Thread Rodrigo Novo
Thank you for the bug report!

Unfortunately we need more information to proceed debugging the root of
this problem. Please attach the following here, when/if possible:

- Output of 'sudo lspci -nvv'
- Output of 'sudo discover --disable=parallel,serial,usb,ide,scsi,pcmcia
--format="%S\t%D\n" video'
- Output of 'sudo xresprobe i810'
- Output of 'sudo ddcprobe'
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log
- /etc/X11/xorg.conf

This information can be retrieved both from an installed system, and
from the livecd.

Finally, it would be nice if you could try to reproduce the problem with
the current Edgy livecd, since it has a new version of the i810 driver,
which is supposed to fix this problem.

You can download the current livecd from here:

Please note that the current version (20060823) is known to be broken
(but unrelated to X.Org). Please wait until version 20060824 is
available before attempting to download the livecd.
