[Bug 1945043] Re: Impish: problem with bluetooth mouse: not connectable

2021-10-18 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
I'm having a similar problem with a Logitech MX Anywhere 2S mouse

In hirsute, I had no issues whatsoever with the mouse bluetooth
connection -- the machine would boot, or wake from suspend, I'd just
touch the mouse and it would be connected, with minimal lag.

After upgrading to 21.10, the mouse would not connect. Trying to force
the connection in the bluetooth panel (or via bluetoothctl) did not work
-- I had to remove the pairing and pair it again.

If I hibernate, reboot or shut the computer down, the mouse won't
reconnect -- I have to pair it again.

If I suspend the machine or turn the mouse off (it has a physical on/off
toggle), it reconnects without issue.

Removing the `cache/${device_mac}` and `${device_mac}/{info,attributes}`
under `/var/lib/bluetooth/${controller_mac}` did not change anything.

I have no issue with reconnecting my bluetooth keyboard and two
different headsets -- the system boots/reboots/resumes and I just press
a key in the keyboard and it's connected. Any time I power on one of the
headsets, it connects without trouble.

I've tested in my fedora 34 box and had no issue reconnecting the mouse
after rebooting (fedora has bluez==5.61-1.fc34 and kernel
5.14.11-200.fc34).

Ubuntu 21.10
Kernel 5.13.0-20-generic
bluez==5.60-0ubuntu2

[Bug 830840] Re: Chat window will not open

2011-12-27 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
This seems to be an intermittent bug for men. Soon after login, the
message list appears to work ok -- click on a contact, it opens a chat
window, adds an entry to the notification tray.

Most of the times, the problem occurs after I open the first chat window
-- i.e. I start chatting with contact A; soon I need to send a message
to contact B, who is online. Clicking on the contact name or drag-and-
dropping the contact into an opened chat window does not work.

If contacts A and B started conversations with me and I only answered
them in the notification tray, I usually can open the chat window via
the notification "bubble" for *only one of the contacts*. Works the
first time only, then I can not open any other chat window.

Starting a chat via gnome-contacts works correctly.

Most of the times, the only solution to have the chat windows back is to
close all chat windows and the contact list, disconect from all IM
accounts, kill mission-control and then start all over again.

Curiously, after I opened the debug window to generate the log, I
figured I had regained the ability to open chat windows. Don't think
it's related, but 've never seen empathy get back to working
correctly...

Indeed, I had that issue in mind. But then what would be a good file
name in this case? Photos imported by shotwell and f-spot are named as a
sequential number.

Exporting a selection of photos (that may or may not be under a same tag
in shotwell) will create a directory with a bunch of files whose numbers
are mostly meaningless numbers.

Sugestions?

2010-10-21 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
I can see this happening, but not *every time the window is opened*.

Here, the chat & the contact-list windows move up every time I use the
*indicator* to access the window that was *previously visible on other
workspace*.

To reproduce:
1) Open up the Contact-List window
2) Go to another workspace
3) Use the indicator to open the contact-list in this workspace
4) see the window moving up

Re: [Bug 657787] Re: Mutter does not honor the desktop input method

2010-10-11 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
In gnome-shell it works fine.

I have tested it in the netbook session (gnome-shell --replace) and in
the standard desktop session (settingt the windowmanager gconf key to
gnome-shell) just to sure. In both gnome-shell used the right input method.

[Bug 634701] Re: mutter restarts on closing almost any application (xterm not included)

2010-10-10 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
This bug is still present as of version 0.2.46-0ubuntu4

Closing gtk applications does not seem to cause the crash, only
applications without support for global menu (firefox and thunderbird,
in my case).

How to reproduce:
1. Open firefox
2. Close Firefox
3. If mutter does not crash, go to 1

After a few tries, mutter should crash.

[Bug 657805] [NEW] Fullscreen applications vs Global Menu

2010-10-10 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

GTK/Gnome applications that have a full screen mode do not display the
menu bar, since the menu is stolen by Mutter. This may be an unexpected
behavior in some cases (e.g. Terminal, in full screen mode, is still
supposed to show the menu bar).

Also, using the shortcuts to access the menu causes an awkward effect,
since the menu (but not the menubar) is shown relative to it's position
in mutter's panel, making it look like a ghost popup menu.

When switching to fullscreen mode, mutter could keep an auto-hiding top
panel over the fullscreen window.

[Bug 657787] [NEW] Mutter does not honor the desktop input method

2010-10-10 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mutter

In unity's search boxes (applications, files or general search) I can
not generate characters like á (' + a), ã (~ + a), etc. despite the
desktop input method being correctly set to cedilla (all other
applications work as expected).

I selected Brazilian Portuguese as my default language during the
installation process, so the UI and the input method were set
automatically.

For some reason, mutter is not using the selected input method.

2010-05-16 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
@Felipe:

"ipod --list" does not work because it expects the ipod to be mounted
(i.e. it checks for ipod devices with the property 'volume.is_mounted =
true' in hal).

@all
While looking at the issue, I ran into this processes
  root 20029  0.0  0.0  24428  1296 ?S15:28   0:00
hald-addon-storage: polling /dev/sdf (every 2 sec)

/lib/udev/ipod-set-info /dev/sdf1 2 7

ipod-set-info belongs to libgpod-common and, whatever it should do, it
was stalling.

I removed libgpod-common and everything went back to normal.

Richard,

Sound recording is broken on which application ?

Here is my situation at the moment:

* gnome-sound-recorder [works]
* gstreamer-properties test [works]
* twinkle soft phone [works] [1]

* skype-2.1.0.47beta [ does not work with pulse. Remove pulse, it works as a
charm]
* skype-2.0 [ does not work. recognizes alsa devices, but does
not work with current pulse ]
* ekiga [ does not work -- ptlib issues ]
* gizmo[ does not work with eighter oss nor alsa ]
* empathy[ does not work. Volume meter on call dialog show
mic as if it was ok, but I get no sound back on the echo service ] [2]
* pidgin[ almost works -- mic seems to be too low (even
on 100%) and there is lots of cracking in the audio ] [2]

[1] Tested some voip phones, twinkle was the only one that really worked. It
uses OSS api.
[2] Tested with gabble.e...@test.collabora.co.uk via google talk

While testing with the collabora echo service, I tried the !playmusic
command with both pidgin and empathy. I can here audio with no problem, so
it the recording issue should not be related to lack of codecs.

[Bug 354620] Re: Recording from microphone stutters when pulseaudio is running

2009-10-24 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
The problem still happens on karmic with the updates of october 24th

For gstreamer applications, setting the input device to alsa/analog on
gstreamer-properties works.
Skype still has major issues whenever pulseaudio is running. Sad enough, it
does not present options other then "pulsaudio" on it's sound configuration.

setting position_fix=1 does make gnome-sound-recorder to work on
pulseaudio, but sound quality is awful

[Bug 235580] Re: applet tclid notinited

2008-06-23 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
I have the same issue and I do have Java installed.

The issue is with Banco do Brasil site. The applet that usually hangs is
the one which checks if the computer being used is authorized to do
online transactions (tclID).

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, we have a
"tclID notinited" on the statusbar and firefox hangs, eating 99% of cpu.
I need to kill it and try again. Sometimes, it won't work during a whole
day on a specific computer, but will work on some other with the same
versions of ubuntu, java and firefox. Sometimes it doesn't work on any
computer I have nearby.

It doesn't help that the error happens *after* you entered the password,
so it requires a client of the bank to debug. If someone points me some
instructions on how to extract any debug information from firefox in
this case, I can try.

[Bug 137388] Re: LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT set when it shouldn't be

2007-10-18 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
Same here, except that usually LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT desapears after
logging out and in again (once or twice ...)

The variable is set in /usr/bin/compiz when glxinfo does not report
GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap twice. Weird thing is, openning a shell,
unsetting the ALWAYS_INDIRECT thing and running the same test, it works
 texture from pixmap is reported twice as expected ...

I'll comment out this check and see what happens on the long run.

OpenVPN can be configured to enable users to connect to some other network
without overriding the users default route, domain settings, etc.

I have a setup in wich we enable access to some servers only via openvpn,
but we don't wanna route all users traffic thought this network -- why on
earth I would route the user's gmail through the servers network?

But, with network-manager having done that, fire up Firefox and get a

[Bug 37821] Re: Regular network drops with madwifi

2007-05-26 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
The solution would be an option to disable background scanning in nm --
sure

While no one in nm devel does so, i've done a hackish fix: in nm-
device-802-11-wireless.c, changing 14 to 10 solved the problem (since my
atheros has 11 channels)

/*¬
* A/B/G cards should only scan if they are disconnected. Set the timeout to
active¬
* for the case we lose this connection shortly, it will reach this point and
then¬
* nm_device_is_activated will return FALSE, letting the scan proceed.¬
*/¬

/if ((self->priv->num_freqs > 14) && nm_device_is_activated (NM_DEVICE
(self)) == TRUE)¬
/Atheros does not like scanning too and has 11 channels, changing this to
10 (Kassick)
if ((self->priv->num_freqs > 10) && nm_device_is_activated (NM_DEVICE (self))
== TRUE)¬
{¬
   nm_device_802_11_wireless_set_scan_interval (app_data, self,
NM_WIRELESS_SCAN_INTERVAL_ACTIVE);>¬
  goto reschedule;¬
}¬

[Bug 37239] Re: VPN connection should alter /etc/resolv.conf

2007-05-26 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
I was looking into the code of network-manager-openvpn and the vpn-
manager in nm;

It seems that the openvpn plugin receives the dns server list (in my
case, there are none) and adds them to the config struct. vpn-manager
later discards the old ip4_config and uses the new one, which has no
dns, and then resolv.conf is generated empty.

What would be a good policy for servers in the resolv.conf generated
when a vpn is active? I thought of

1 - servers in "prepend-domain-name-servers"  in dhclient.conf
2 - if the vpn is not the default route, the servers received by the active
interface's dhclient
3 - servers received by the vpn plugin

[Bug 75746] Characters produced by dead keys do not work with history/search list being shown

2006-12-14 Thread Rodrigo Virote Kassick
Public bug reported:

If you start typing an address, soon the history/search dropdown list
will open. While it's being shown, typing characters produced by dead
keys, like ~ in international keyboards (mine is a brazilian abnt2),
won't work, since I must type ~ and then space.

Typing addresses like www.ab.com/~someone requires to type www.ab.com/ ,
then click the location entry to make the history list disappear, and
then typing ~
