[Bug 1757202] Re: xubuntu / bionic / nvidia-driver-390 can only be used by one user at a time
The bug is not related to lightdm because it also occurs with gdm3. I have several Linux boxes with graphic cards nVidia GTX 570, GTX 670 and Quadro K2000, and the problem appears on each one, with different resolutions for the second user and sometimes with a very slow rendering. I analyzed the Xorg logs and found that for the second user, the ModulePath is incorrectly set to "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" instead of "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia/xorg". Thus the nvidia modules are not found when the X server starts. Note that this problem does not occur for the first user... So, here is a workaround for this problem: 1. Create an xorg.conf file for your nVidia device. All you have to do for this is to launch the command: sudo nvidia-xconfig This will create a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf. 2. Edit the created file /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add at the end the lines: Section "Files" ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nvidia/xorg" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" EndSection 3. Save and restart the X server. Now, for the first and second user you should have the nvidia driver in use, with the correct resolution and fast rendering. You can check it using the command: glxgears -info |grep NVIDIA which should return the nvidia opengl version. Note, there is also a problem of slow scrolling in the virtual console (Ctrl-Alt-F1). To solve this, edit /etc/default/grub and set the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX variable as: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="video=vesafb:mtrr:3,ywrap" then do: sudo update-grub and reboot. Now, the scrolling speed in the virtual console should be very fast. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757202 Title: xubuntu / bionic / nvidia-driver-390 can only be used by one user at a time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1757202/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1747875] [NEW] Libreoffice snap permission restriction on /usr breaks TexMaths extension
Public bug reported: I am the developer of a LibreOffice extension (the TexMaths equation editor) and I got reports of users who can’t use this extension with the snap version of LibreOffice, because of permission restrictions on /usr (the TexMaths extension, and probably others, use external programs located in /usr/bin). Indeed, the TexMaths extension uses external programs like /usr/bin/latex, /usr/bin/dvipng, /usr/bin/dvisvgm and the texlive LaTeX packages to produce LaTeX equations in LibreOffice (in Writer, Draw and Impress components). Since the access to /usr from the snap packages is not possible, this breaks TexMaths. I guess there are other extensions that could be affected by this problem. I tested and reproduced the issue in Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (64 bits) with the snap package of LibreOffice 5.4.4.2. [Bug 1734092] [NEW] Evince does not print hyphens in some PDF documents (cairo bug)
Public bug reported: In some PDF files, characters like hyphen (minus sign) and others symbols are not printed in Evince. According to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94615, the bug is in version 1.14 of cairo. The bug was fixed last year in version 1.15 (see https://cgit.freedesktop.org/cairo/commit/?id=190678f6444ad879847d603c3c9eaf8e9ab6887a). I've backported the above patch in Ubuntu 16.04 xenial, and it fixes the bug. To reproduce the bug (see attached test files) in Ububtu 16.04 (with libcairo2 1.14.6-1): 1. [Bug 1641288] [NEW] libatk-adaptor breaks down the LibreOffice TexMaths extension
Public bug reported: If the package libatk-adaptor is installed on Ubuntu (as a dependency of gnome-orca for example), it breaks down the LibreOffice TexMaths extension. TexMaths is a popular extension used to enter / edit LaTeX equations on LibreOffice (see http://roland65.free.fr/texmaths). Step to reproduce the bug: 1. It is assumed that LibreOffice 5.1.4 (with at least the Writer and Draw components) is installed on Ubuntu. It is also assumed that libatk- adaptor is installed. 2. Install texlive: sudo apt-get install texlive 3. Download and install the TexMaths extension (version 0.42) from there: https://sourceforge.net/projects/texmaths/files/0.42/ 4. Create a new empty Writer document, then click on the Pi icon (this is the TexMaths icon) and in the window that opens, type: 'x(t)+y(t)' (without the quotes), then click on the LaTeX button. This generates an SVG image of the 'x(t)+y(t)' equation. 5. Select the SVG image of the equation by left clicking on it. Then click on the Pi icon. Now, instead of editing the equation, an error message is displayed: "The selected object is not a TexMaths equation... Please unselect it and call the macro again...". 6. Now, right click on the SVG image and select the 'Description' menu voice. In the window that opens, the description is empty and does not contain the equation text, as it should. 7. Now purge (and not just remove) the libatk-adaptor package: sudo apt-get purge libatk-adaptor then logout and login and repeat the steps 4, 5, and 6: everything is OK and the equation can be edited as usual. Another way to remove the bug instead of purging libatk-adaptor is to rename the file: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor to /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor.orig . Then logout and login. I don't know if the bug is from the LibreOffice side or from the libatk- adaptor side, so I reported this bug to both packages. ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641288 Title: libatk-adaptor breaks down the LibreOffice TexMaths extension To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1641288/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1641286] [NEW] Severe lag in LibreOffice Draw due to /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 16.04, I found that LibreOffice Draw (4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.1.x versions) is extremely slow when selecting and moving a bunch of shapes in some relatively simple drawings. This occurred on five Ubuntu boxes I have. However, there was no slow down on Windows with the same files and also on a fresh install of Xubuntu 16.04 in a virtual machine. After a long investigation, I finally found the culprit: for some reason, the package gnome-orca was installed on my machines and this package pulls down the libatk-adaptor package, which in turn installs the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor. I found that removing that file solves the problem and now LibreOffice Draw is fully responsive. Perhaps other graphic applications could suffer from the same problem, but I was not able to see some huge lag as in LO Draw. To reproduce: 1. install libatk-adaptor (version 2.18.1-2ubuntu1:amd64 of Ubuntu 16.04) or simply the gnome-orca package 2. open the attached file test.odg with LibreOffice Draw, and select a bunch of shapes (for example, the two axes and shapes of the page bottom). Then, try to move the selected shapes with the keyboard (shift + arrow) and you should see a severe lag. If you maintain the key pressed during the move, then the UI is blocked during some time. Moving the shapes using the mouse is faster but still quite slow as compared to the expected performance. 3. remove the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk-adaptor and restart X 4. open again the test.odg file. Now, moving a bunch of shapes using the keyboard (or the mouse) is very smooth and fluid, as it should be. This is 100% reproducible on all the machines I have where the libatk- adaptor package is installed. ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Draw test file" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641286/+attachment/4776309/+files/test.odg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641286 Title: Severe lag in LibreOffice Draw due to /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90atk- adaptor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1641286/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1641284] [NEW] libatk-adaptor breaks down the LibreOffice TexMaths extension
Public bug reported: Package: libatk-adaptor 2.18.1-2ubuntu1 System: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial Xerus) If the package libatk-adaptor is installed on Ubuntu (as a depency of gnome-orca for example), it breaks down the LibreOffice TexMaths extension. Public bug reported: [This bug is related to bug #1202198] When sending a document to a printer, unity-settings daemon will show a message like: ERROR: connecting to printer Nevertheless, the document will print without any issue. Actually this message is a warning or info message, as it is telling the user that it is connecting to the printer. In Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic), there are two packages that can be involved in gnome printer norifications: gnome-settings-daemon and unity-settings- daemon. The latter package seems to be a fork of the former, for Unity use I suppose. These two packages come with a printer notification plugin. I guess that gsd-printer is used in a Gnome Shell session (I don't use it so I can test my guessing). So, to remove the connecting-to-printer false error message, I think the safest approach is to patch both packages, just by adding the lines: if (g_str_has_prefix (reason, "connecting-to-device")) return TRUE; to the reason_is_blacklisted() static function in gsd-print- notifications-manager.c. A patch is attached for the gnome-settings-daemon package and I'll also fill a bug report with a patch for the unity-settings-daemon package. ** Patch added: "suppress-printer-connecting-to-device-notifification.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1202198/+attachment/4329475/+files/suppress-printer-connecting-to-device-notifification.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1202198 Title: gnome-settings daemon notifies as error an info message To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1202198/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1387761] [NEW] Evolution 3.12 preview pane becomes dark grey when receiving emails
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 14.10, there is a bug in clearlooks-phenix-theme 3.0.16-7 that makes the email preview pane of Evolution 3.12.7 become dark grey when receiving emails (this usually happens after a while). This can be fixed by adding the line: @define-color theme_unfocused_bg_color @theme_bg_color; to the /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks-Phenix/gtk-3.0/gtk.css file, just before the first "@define-color ..." line. [Bug 1311247] Re: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue
Yes, you're right. Since I don't use sudo, I didn't notice that 'sudo cd' doesn't work. An there was also a typo in the commands. I tested the recipe on my three Ubuntu boxes and this solved the issue. Thanks! [Bug 1311247] Re: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue
OK, these issues suggested me a workaround for the bug. Here is the recipe: 1. Create a script named rc.fixgrub in /etc with the following content: #!/bin/sh /usr/sbin/grub-set-default 0 2. Make the script executable: sudo chmod +x /etc/rc.fixgrub 3. Create two links to launch the script at shutdown and reboot: sudo cd /etc/rc0.d sudo ln -s ../rc/fixgrub K10fixgrub sudo cd /etc/rc6.d sudo ln -s ../rc/fixgrub K10fixgrub 4. Reboot (or shutdown) and voila... the bug has disappeared (and this is reliable now)! [Bug 1311247] Re: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue
What I said in #47 is also wrong. It seems that the annoying message disappears at the first reboot after the command grub-set-default 0, but reappears the next reboot. [Bug 1321172] [NEW] Unminimized non gtk windows don't have the focus

[Bug 1311247] Re: error: malformed file, press any key to continue
I had the same issue on an upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04. When I did an 'sudo update-grub' I got the following message: Warning: Setting GRUB_TIMEOUT to a non-zero value when GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT is set is no longer supported. So, in my /etc/default/grub I commented out the line: GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0 and did another 'sudo update-grub'. The error message was gone and the bug disappeared after a reboot. So I think these "malformed file" messages are related to an error in /etc/default/grub. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311247 Title: error: malformed file, press any key to continue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1311247/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
