[Bug 1915023] [NEW] Fix an extension spamming gnome logs?
Public bug reported: So I have this issue were I downloaded the gamemode extension a long time ago and hade no issue. But in the past month I have been getting these errors in Gnome Logs being spammed hundreds of times https://github.com/gicmo/gamemode-extension/issues/35 Object .Gjs_gamemode_christian_kellner_me_extension_GameModeIndicator (0x5565b80a8c60), has been already deallocated — impossible to set any property on it. Object St.Icon (0x5565b7d04800), has been already deallocated — impossible to access it. This might be caused by the object having been destroyed from C code using something such as destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs. So I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the extension, errors still happen. I then just decided to leave it uninstalled but the errors still come. Unfortunately the creator Christian seems to have given up on updating the extension and last update was for Gnome 3.34 and has not been responsive. [Bug 1914224] [NEW] Use hardware switch to turn off ariplane mode problem in Ubuntu 20.04
Public bug reported: I have a HP 15-r014TX model numbered laptop. I recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 in it alongside windows 8 (actually upgraded fro 18.04). It had a hardware problem causing wifi to not connect but only scan nearby network. So I attached a usb wifi adapter and everything was working till yesterday. Now I have airplane mode turned on and saying it can only be turned of by hardware switch by default that laptop has F12 as the default button to toggle hardware airplane mode. I tried it and popup showed that it has turned it on but it didn't help me to turn that off again. Referring to many forums I tried popular solutions to fix the problem but nothing worked for me. I also checked bios to whether there is an option but found nothing. No I discovered that the problem is only with Ubuntu and in windows every thing works fine. **output of rfkill list all** 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes **Output of lshw** *-network description: Ethernet interface product: RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. physical id: 0 bus info: pci@:08:00.0 logical name: enp8s0 version: 07 serial: d0:bf:9c:07:07:fe capacity: 100Mbit/s width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress msix vpd bus_master cap_list ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=r8169 firmware=rtl8106e-1_0.0.1 06/29/12 latency=0 link=no multicast=yes port=MII resources: irq:18 ioport:4000(size=256) memory:b560-b5600fff memory:b540-b5403fff *-network DISABLED description: Wireless interface product: RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe vendor: Ralink corp. physical id: 0 bus info: pci@:0a:00.0 logical name: wlp10s0f0 version: 00 serial: 74:29:af:80:e9:47 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=rt2800pci driverversion=5.4.0-42-generic firmware=N/A latency=0 link=no multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11 resources: irq:16 memory:b551-b551 **information of usb wifi card** Bus 002 Device 010: ID 0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. [Bug 331506] Re: BOINC randomly freezes Ubuntu (Intrepid 64 bit)
Me too! My case is exactly the same as above accept I'm dumb and decided to run it on a server. After a couple of days of finding the server unresponsive after a few hours, I was pretty sure the thing that changed was adding project 'milkyway at home'. i have had two other projects running without incident. i had also been working on the newfangled (to me anyways) systemd-resolvconf as well as doing some ufw work around the same time that server started crashing so am reverting and changing those as well as i try to isolate the problem. Though i was unable to connect to server (assuming through the roof load (verified)) however oddly enough it did respond to soft power from cloud console. [Bug 1879968] Re: copy/paste still sometimes fails in LibreOffice on mutter 3.36.2
I agree with the sentiment of others in recent posts. I reported the bug upstream as well and there doesn't seem to be any interest there either. I use Linux and home and at work and I need the clipboard to be working properly. I work at a public library and have been planning on teaching intro to computers classes using Ubuntu, but I don't want to try to explain to beginners the concept of cut and paste while at the same time explaining to them why the OS I'm teaching them on can properly do it. My solution was to switch to Kubuntu 20.04. It seems to be working fine. Public bug reported: Using ubuntu 18.04, i had a message that ubuntu 18.10 is available, so i upgraded, but some files or apps were not installed so it only did a partial upgrade. Today i turned on my laptop, i then received a message that ubuntu 19.04 was available, so i accepted to do another upgrade, but this one failed to even do a partial upgrade. files/Apps that say is an issue are as follows: qmail-uids-gids qmail qmail-run mailutils other files had 'invalid file name' Can't recall what they were. Hope this helps. [Bug 1814342] [NEW] fc-match does not return the correct font
Public bug reported: On Ubuntu 18.10 the command `fc-match monospace:bold` returns DejaVuSansMono.ttf: "DejaVu Sans Mono" "Book" instead of DejaVuSansMono-Bold.ttf: "DejaVu Sans Mono" "Bold" This works correctly on Ubuntu 18.04.1 which is using fontconfig 2.12.6, whereas 18.10 uses 2.13.0. I compiled 2.13.1 from source and just installed libfontconfig.so.1.12.0. This solves the problem. While it does not sound much, this bug also causes Java 8 AWT/Swing font rendering to be uglier than it has to be. Instead of "DejaVu Sans Mono Bold" and emboldened version of "DejaVu Sans Mono" is used which has a different size, which goes counter to the notion of a "monospace" font. ** Affects: fontconfig (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1814342 Title: fc-match does not return the correct font To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontconfig/+bug/1814342/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1800952] [NEW] Kubuntu 18.04: Konqueror won't show man/info pages
Public bug reported: Per the KDE docs at https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/applications/konqueror/man-info.html, https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kdenetwork/kioslave5/man/index.html and https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kdenetwork/kioslave5/info/index.html, I should be able to read GNU-Linux man and info pages from within Konqueror. Unfortunately, that feature no longer works in Kubuntu 18.04 (it has worked through 16.04). If I enter man:/ or info: in Konqueror, I only get a blank page while the little icon to the right of the search field in the toolbar spins endlessly. Since the KDE docs say I should be able to open those pages in Kwrite, I decided to give it a try. I clicked the "open" button and entered man:/ls in the "name" field of the subsequent window. It did, indeed open the ls(1) man page, but it appeared as raw html. As I read https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kdenetwork/kioslave5/man/index.html, that is the expected behavior although it does make it much less readable than viewing in Konqueror where the html/css formatting is applied to look more like a real manpage. Curiously, the man kio-slave starts to work in Konqueror. If I enter man: in the address field of the Konqueror toolbar, it show manpage sections from man(0) through man(9) to man(l) (lower case L,, not a 1), including sections for POSIX variations. If I enter man:/(1)/, it shows all of the manpages in section one, albeit in an order which is definitely NOT alphabetical. Unfortunately, selecting one of those choices results in the blank page and a spinning icon. While reading man and ifo pages from within Konqueror is only one of the reasons I prefer the KDE desktop, it one of the more important reasons for me. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release:18.04 $ apt-cache policy konqueror konqueror: Installed: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status If you need more info, please let me know. [Bug 1723350] Re: sssd offline on boot, stays offline forever
I can confirm the same issue with Ubuntu 18.04 (used the DVD). SSSD cannot resolve the the backend and then says it's offline. Restarting SSSD after a reboot always resolves the issue. I've found two workarounds in 18.04: 1) Use your own resolv.conf and not rely on systemd-resolved.service. "unlink /etc/resolv.conf" and then create your own resolv.conf that doesn't rely on systemd-resolved. 2) Make SSSD start after systemd-resolved.service. I prefer this method because setting up the nameservers is still automatic (in case they change). cp -p /lib/systemd/system/sssd.service /etc/systemd/system/ sed -i 's/Wants.*$/Wants &\nAfter=systemd-resolved.service/g' /etc/systemd/system/sssd.service Hope this helps someone. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723350 Title: sssd offline on boot, stays offline forever To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sssd/+bug/1723350/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display
The work-around suggested in #29 worked for me. That's using the Graphics Drivers PPA (https://launchpad.net/~graphics- drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa). Just to be clear about the symptoms I was seeing: - The splash screen DID appear - LightDM would NOT appear (just a black, blank screen) - I could go to a virtual terminal and start the desktop with "startx" - I had no problems with the Nouveau drivers only the proprietary drivers However, lightdm works fine with the nvidia-390 package from the Graphics Drivers PPA. The hardware is an Asus GL-553-VD laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752053 Title: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1752053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1719053] Re: Kubuntu 64-bit 16.04.3 installer is broken
After a number of experiments this weekend, I can say that the graphical installer is not COMPLETELY broken, It merely contains a fatal flaw. It will only work if an LV file system is mounted on /, and optionally on /home. It will also allow an LV configured as swap. If those conditions are met, the / (root) partition will be mounted on /target and the /boot (a separate physical partition on the drive) and /home partitions will be mounted under /target/boot and /target/home respectively. In that configuration, the installation will proceed successfully and the OS will be installed to the drive. Any attempt to use any other mount point will fail. The / (root) partition will be mounted under /tmp/tmp.LARGE_RANDOM_NUMBER and the other partitions will remain unmounted. Nothing will be written to the drive. On the chance that there was an artificial limit on the number of mount points, I tried to install to a configuration of /boot (sda1), and LVs of / (root), swap and /var (instead of /home). The installation failed as described above. The 64-bit Ubuntu-desktop image suffers the same flaw, I can only assume that all of the desktop images share this flaw. Note that the 64-bit ubuntu-server image works as expected. It does NOT share this flaw. I believe that at the very least, this flaw should be noted in the release notes. As it stands, I see only two ways to upgrade my Kubuntu 14.04 system: 1) Install ubuntu server and then attempt to install KDE and the other desktop apps on top of that. 2) Install Kubuntu on a separate drive and then do a fork-lift upgrade by migrating the system from that drive to my original system. Neither option is very appealing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1719053 Title: Kubuntu 64-bit 16.04.3 installer is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1719053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1621753] Re: Google Cast no longer finds Chromecast device
Running 59.0.3071.109 on three different systems, two with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and one with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. All three systems now find the Chromecast device but Chromium randomly crashes and exits on both 16.04 systems and runs normally on the 14.04 system. If I change the 'load media router component extension' setting in Chromium from default to disabled on the 16.04 boxes then the crashes go away but I don't find the Chromecast device. It definitely seems to be related to casting being enabled. [Bug 1645689] Re: Install Additional Software doesn't include info on single signon
It is asking for an Ubuntu One email/pass, but it won't accept my Ubuntu One email and password. I have attached a picture. I worked around it by doing apt-get install synaptic so I can use Synaptic to install software instead of Ubuntu Software. I would like to use the state of the art, which I assume Ubuntu Software is, but I am glad to have a decent fail-back in Synaptic. FYI, I was a developer for 15 years, although mostly in MS Windows. I do understand the difference between the root password (for authenticating changes to the system) and the Ubuntu One single sign on stuff. But that point might be a good one to be very explicit about for folks who might not understand. ** Attachment added: "Showing the dialog requiring Ubuntu One." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/1645689/+attachment/4785334/+files/Screenshot%20passwordfail.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1645689 Title: Install Additional Software doesn't include info on single signon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-docs/+bug/1645689/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1645689] [NEW] Install Additional Software doesn't include info on single signon
Public bug reported: In the list of steps at help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/addremove- install.html it doesn't mention the fact that you are required to have an Ubuntu One account, nor that you have to enter your email address and password for that service. It also doesn't address what happens when that fails. In my case I created the required account (even though I will NEVER!!! install software I have to pay for) and then immediately tried to install some new software. That failed with an error saying wrong password. Even after properly activating the account and waiting overnight it is still failing to recognize my password. RE: [Bug 1603244] [NEW] docker - Cannot start container
Looks like that was the problem. I'm a newbie on this and didn't see any reference to the importance of explicit package selection- I assumed that the repositories steered you to the correct place. [Bug 1585017] [NEW] lxc snapshot allows a ':' in snapshot name
Public bug reported: Package info: lxd 2.0.0-0ubuntu4amd64 Container hypervisor based on LXC - daemon on 16.04 LTS When you create a snapshot of a container with command lxc snapshot [remote:] [--stateful] The command allows you to use a ':' in the snapshot name, once the snapshot is created it can no longer be manipulated because all the other command treat the : as a remote reference. lxc snapshot www nuc2:wwwsnap0 Snapshots: snap0 (taken at 2016/05/23 22:18 UTC) (stateless) nuc2:wwwsnap0 (taken at 2016/05/24 02:30 UTC) (stateless) lxc delete www/nuc2:wwwspan0 error: unknown remote name: "www/nuc2" The only way I could delete it that I found was to update the row in the container table of /var/lib/lxd/lxd.db and change the name to a valid one. [Bug 1522422] Re: Update to php 7.0
PHP7 is incompatible with many PECL extensions which are used by a LOT of websites, and are therefore VERY popular. Any release of Ubuntu which doesn't include PHP5.6 out of the box, is going to be a non-starter in the server world. PHP7 is just too new. No one has had time to adapt all of the incredibly important and vast collection of PECL extensions to PHP7 yet. PHP7 will take years to adopt. Pushing out an Ubuntu release which is PHP7-centric is most defintely a non-starter. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522422 Title: Update to php 7.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/php5/+bug/1522422/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Mario, is this where the update needs to go? -- https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/shutter but Debian import freeze was on Feb. 18th? Or per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages " Requesting a new package for Ubuntu Packages that have recently been added to Debian unstable will be automatically synced into Ubuntu prior to the Debian Import Freeze (DIF). After the Debian Import Freeze, you will have to file a bug with the summary field "Please sync from debian " where is the package you would like to see. Find the date for Debian Import Freeze on the release schedule page. To get a package into Ubuntu, please file a bug in Launchpad and make sure it has the tag needs-packaging. Please mention where to get the source for it and which license it is under. An example request is here. Make sure you check which packages have already been requested. Because we want Free Software to reach as many people as possible and do not want to have too much duplication of packaging effort, it is useful for packages that meet the requirements of the Debian Free Software Guidelines to be requested within Debian's Work-Needing and Prospective Packages (WNPP) process by filing a Request for Package (RFP) bug on the WNPP package in Debian's bugtracker.
