[Bug 76876] Re: /dev/dsp busy, but no program using it

2007-05-31 Thread Ron Hoogwater
Juraj: did you use sudo? When you did, your problem is a different one
from mine and some others in this discussion.

For me, it is clear my /dev/dsp is used by firefox and openoffice, and
the question is why these programs use /dev/dsp exclusively. Maybe it
should be reported as a bug in these programs?

But if it is, everyone should have this error, doesn't it?

[Bug 76876] Re: /dev/dsp busy, but no program using it

2007-05-31 Thread Ron Hoogwater
True, the title should be clear enough.

But there are 2 discussions going on here; for example bcdeck,
flickerfly and Georges seem to have the same problem as me.

By the way, I think it IS a bug. In a distribution, sound should be working, no
matter which program I use. That's what you and George said: these programs
need an update on its sound management.
It would be a bad idea to buy a new sound-card, alsa works fine; as you said
too.

Anyway, this discussion shouldn't be hold here, since this is another
bug, probably of these programs self.

2007-05-23 Thread Ron Hoogwater
I have the same problem, but found that firefox and openoffice use
/dev/dsp exclusively sometimes. Could it be related to java?

Easy way to check which program is using /dev/dsp:

$ fuser /dev/dsp

Then find the PID with top.

[Bug 78249] totem crashes when draging slider while playing dvd

2007-01-06 Thread Ron Hoogwater
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

This problem occurred when I played a dvd, self made dvd-r with 4 hours
of video. I tried to skip a piece by dragging the slider to the right.

Then totem begins to seek to that point (I can hear my dvd-player working
harder).
Now the following things can happen:
- if I forwarded a small piece, it works fine (about 1 min) (probably loaded in
the buffer already?)
- if I forwarded a longer piece, this is my observation:
   - totem is busy seeking, but when I dare to touch the slider again, totem
crashes. When I am patient the image of the scene shows up, but it doesn't play
further.
   - but when I drag back to the beginning (same part in which worked fine
first) it works fine again
   - when I drag a longer piece to the right after I dragged to the beginning
again, totem crashes immediately
   - when I start playing with the slide-bar, totem always crashes :P

The first 2 times I got bug-reports. After that I tried to install some
debugging-symbols, but now I don't get a bug-reporting window any more
(maybe tomorrow...).

I now installed libtotem-plparser1-dbg (which isn't useful I think?) and
libmpeg2-4-dev (found it in the stack trace). Which debugging-symbols
are useful?

Here is the second bug-report.

The first one I lost, but will probably not give more information that
this.

2007-01-06 Thread Ron Hoogwater
I also found the same behaviour with go-skip to, except that totem
doesn't crash. It only seems busy seeking and at the end he only shows
an image of that moment without playing further. The only way to get
things working again is to go to the beginning.
