[Bug 2056555] Re: Allow bitbake to create user namespace

2024-07-25 Thread Ross Burton
Who would be shipping this trusted app? Bitbake can run at arbitrary
locations because it isn't something you install at a distro level, but
something the user fetches and runs.

I think we'll have to fallback to spawning inside unshare assuming a
future point release of apparmour allows unshare to work in some sense.

[Bug 2056555] Re: Allow bitbake to create user namespace

2024-07-15 Thread Ross Burton
If I'm reading the comments in apparmor correctly (I don't have a 2404
machine myself) then unshare doesn't work out of the box either:

# This profile allows almost everything and only exists to allow
# unshare to work on a system with user namespace restrictions
# being enforced.
# unshare is allowed access to user namespaces and capabilities
# within the user namespace, but its children do not have
# capabilities, blocking unshare from being able to be used to
# arbitrarily by-pass the user namespace restrictions.
# We restrict x mapping of any code that is unknown while unshare
# has privilige within the namespace. To help ensure unshare can't
# be used to attack the kernel.
#
# disabled by default as it can break some use cases on a system that
# doesn't have or has disable user namespace restrictions for unconfined
# use aa-enforce to enable it

[Bug 2056555] Re: Python can't write to /proc files

2024-07-10 Thread Ross Burton
I'll add some context and explanation. Bitbake can use user namespaces
to disconnect the networking for specific worker processes, which is an
important isolation feature that would be unfortunate to have to disable
on ubuntu hosts.

This is a very similar situation to buildah, which already has an
apparmour profile to allow userns. The catch is that bitbake is not
installed as part of the system, so you can't hardcode a path like
/usr/bin/bitbake.

Sort of: it queries musicbrainz, and musicbrainz will proxy the request
to freedb if it doesn't have any matches. This is where your bad data
comes from.

When you hit Submit you'll get a form asking for either album or artist
name, enter one of those and you might find the album you are after (the
only difference being a different CD ID). If that doesn't work, you'll
need to Import from FreeDB and fix the data.

This requires a fair amount of work, and isn't possible with the current
code. When various bits of SJ are rewritten, it might be possible, but
the web service has lots of magic which I'd have to reimplement so its
basically easier to just point the user at the web site.

For every album which appears like this, pressing Disc -> Submit should
let you associate the CD ID with a track listing. Musicbrainz may have
it already with a different ID which means you just have to press
another button, or you can import from freedb and fix the titles once
and for all.

[Bug 82335] Re: network-manager should not set offline mode when it manages no device

2007-03-21 Thread Ross Burton
I use usbnet to connect to my PDA. Before NM 0.6.4-6ubuntu3 the usb0
device was ignored:

auto usb0
iface usb0 inet static
address 192.168.0.200
netmask 255.255.255.0

However now when I plug in my PDA, NM disables the interface. If I
click on the applet I can select the usbnet device, but that then
proceeds to drop the wifi connection to the outside world. Considering
I had just done the usbnet connection so that I could get to the outside
world from my PDA, that is useless.

How can I get NM to ignore this usb0 device?

[Bug 57992] Cannot get FontSet in UTF-8 locale

2006-08-28 Thread Ross Burton

Now, this font exists:

-microsoft-trebuchet ms-medium-r-normal--12-116-75-75-p-0-microsoft-cp1251

This is probably due to my locale being UTF-8:

$ locale
LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_GB:en
...

As if I set LANG to C it works fine. I could live with the warning if
that was the only problem, but Xemacs doesn't fall back if it can't find
a fontset and won't start: I need to set LANG=C to start XEmacs in Edgy
(worked in Dapper).

[Bug 57077] Re: Wrong font path

2006-08-23 Thread Ross Burton
Versioning of kdrive is laughable, it's never had a release. The
version number is totally made-up...

All of the relevant kdrive source has been merged into Xorg for 7.1
(maybe 7.0 too) so just dropping the kdrive source package is the best
way to go. I need to prod to get this done in Debian too, as I haven't
updated the Xephyr package there since the initial upload.

[Bug 57077] Wrong font path

Public bug reported:

On my old laptop (ThinkPad T40p, ipw2100) if I had the following in
/etc/network/interfaces then after a suspend/resume cycle the network
card had re-associated with the AP and network was usable again:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
name home
wireless-essid Burton
wireless-key [snip]

However my new laptop (ThinkPad X60, ipw3945) with an identical
configuration doesn't do this. After resume it's unassociated:

$ iwconfig eth0
eth0 unassociated ESSID:off/any
  Mode:Managed Frequency=nan kHz Access Point: Not-Associated
  Bit Rate:0 kb/s Tx-Power:16 dBm
  Retry limit:15 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
  Power Management:off
  Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

sudo ifdown eth0 && sudo ifup eth0 brings the network back, but I'd
prefer not to have to do this every time I resume.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'linux-
image-2.6.15-26-686'; however, that package was not published in Baltix.

[Bug 55891] Sound doesn't work with Intel 82801G HDA chipset

2006-08-10 Thread Ross Burton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-26-686

I have a ThinkPad X60 which has a built-in Intel HDA sound card. It
gets detected and the right modules (snd_hda_intel etc) loaded with only
this error:

[17179590.964000] hda_intel: azx_get_response timeout, switching to
single_cmd mode...

However, sound doesn't work:

$ totem
ALSA lib pcm_direct.c:786:(snd_pcm_direct_initialize_slave)
snd_pcm_hw_params_any failed
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:831:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to initialize slave

esound and any other program produces the same error. If I am lucky I
can rmmod snd_hda_intel and re-modprobe it and this fixes the problem.

Nope, still broken, and confirmed on two different machines. It's
finding firmware this time, but it doesn't work.
