[Bug 1712998] [NEW] regression: dig compiled without -DDIG_SIGCHASE!

2017-08-25 Thread Rune Philosof
Public bug reported:

This was apparently fixed for Hardy in #257682.
But problem is present in Xenial, Zesty and upstream
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=822562

The DIG_SIGCHASE is present in some commands in the build log, but not
for those compiling bin/dig.

[Bug 1618188] Re: systemd journal should be persistent by default: /var/log/journal should be created; remove rsyslog from default installs

2017-04-18 Thread Rune Philosof
@dino99: I think the typical user won't realize, that the logs are being
thrown away, until they need a log from the previous boot. By then it is
too late to correct the configuration.

Why not set `Storage=persistent` in `/etc/systemd/journald.conf` instead
of creating the folder. That would ensure that the folder is created
with the right ownership and permissions.

[Bug 1385842] Re: icedtea-8-plugin not available for openjdk-8

2016-05-20 Thread Rune Philosof
I didn't actually need version 8.
So I just upgraded my icedtea-7-plugin with the icedtea-7-plugin from Maarten
Fonville's PPA.
Maarten Fonville's version worked.

[Bug 1564807] Re: nfs causes guest system to get stuck

2016-04-15 Thread Rune Philosof
I have tested these versions:
linux-image-3.19.0-56-generic
linux-image-3.16.0-67-generic
linux-image-3.13.0-85-generic

The initial report is wrong.
It does not make the entire guest OS hang, only processes that touch the nfs
mount hangs (like ls /vagrant).
It can easily be recreated with this Vagrantfile:
Vagrant.configure(2) do |config|
  config.vm.box = "ubuntu/trusty64"
  config.vm.network "private_network", ip: "192.168.33.10"
  config.vm.synced_folder ".", "/vagrant", type: "nfs"
end

1. vagrant up
2. vagrant ssh # ls /vagrant works
3. suspend the host machine
4. resume the host machine
5. in the vagrant ssh terminal ls /vagrant hangs

At least one other (the commenter) has the problem:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/35645041/after-suspend-guest-os-
hangs-when-using-vagrant-with-nfs

Might it be because it wants to ask some debconf question but the graphical ui

So it might be waiting for user input which the user has no way to give?

[Bug 349469] Re: debconf: DbDriver "config": /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another process: Resource temporarily unavailable

2015-11-13 Thread Rune Philosof
As in #111 but on 15.10.
I got this error after the "Add printer driver"-UI hanged while trying to add
openprinting-gutenprint.

This is the process locking the config.dat:
|-aptd-+-aptd-+-dpkg
| | `-sh---dpkg-preconfigu---dpkg-preconfigu

I had tried to install the printer driver three times.
So when I found this bug report two days later, I had to run `sudo fuser -vik
/var/cache/debconf/config.dat` three times.
Apparently they were waiting in some queue and locked the file (and then
hanged) when I kill the current locking process.

[Bug 1243932] Re: aa-logprof: Log contains unknown mode senw

2015-10-02 Thread Rune Philosof
It would be nice if patches that are backported to trusty are also backported
to 15.04. I upgraded to 15.04 to enjoy newer features.
I was expecting to only see new bugs related to those newer features that I
chose to upgrade to, not expecting patches that made it to 14.04 didn't make it
to 15.04.
Like this one and Bug #1399027.

Since 15.10 is expected near the end of the month I am not really expecting
this to get into 15.04 now.
In the future it would be nice if SRU meant fixing both the LTS and the current
stable Ubuntu release.

You could make an upstream (debian) bug report and link it here.

Also, you could of course attach a patch that fixes this. :)

[Bug 922098] [NEW] getServerByKey doesn't returned a cloned structure

However it is clearly not:

This causes errors in the php-memcached client:

[Bug 517021] Re: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage

2010-08-17 Thread Rune Philosof
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gvfs

+ My disk space was really full at one moment, no byte left free. People say,
that does corrupt the files in the ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata folder, so the
gvfsd-metadata can't read it without being screwed up.
+ Workaround: run "rm -rf ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata"
+
+ Expected results:
+ gvfsd-metadata should be able to handle the no space left situation.
+
+
+ --- Original description ---
After installing 9.10 Ubuntu 64bit browsing and opening folder in nautilus or
Gnome-commander take several minutes when there are many files in it e.g.
10.000. Interestingly Midnight-commander does not have this problem. Opening
such folders does not hang with MC.
- Using "top" i can see that "gvfsd-metadata" is using 100% CPU and when i kill
it the computer stops "hanging". I am using the 32bit version of Karmic too and
there is no such Problem (although tested on a different computer).
+ Using "top" i can see that "gvfsd-metadata" is using 100% CPU and when i kill
it the computer stops "hanging". I am using the 32bit version of Karmic too and
there is no such Problem (although tested on a different computer).

Please fix this because it is highly annyoing. Right now i am killing it
every 20s with the watch command to be able to work at all.

[Bug 528957] Re: mouse button clicks not detected in windowed mode

2010-06-10 Thread Rune Philosof
Wouldn't it have made more sense to go with the upstream version
1.2.14-6 instead of 1.2.14-4ubuntu1.1?

Anyway. It seems to work when tested in wesnoth1.8.

I am not sure about step 4, besides you are assigned to this bug.
Will you do the rest of the sru procedure?

[Bug 573266] Re: [Ambiance, radiance] forcibly override the window button order

2010-05-03 Thread Rune Philosof
First. I do not believe that this bug and #568796 are duplicates.

Sorry about the confirmed status change, I thought I had the same thing.
But actually I cannot reproduce this bug.
Changing the /apps/metacity/general/button_layout setting does indeed change
the way my windows look.

Is this bug about
1. your value of that setting being ignored, or
2. about your value of that setting being replaced by the theme?

I think you mean no. 2, but I just want to b sure.

[Bug 423252] Re: NSS using LDAP on Karmic breaks 'su' and 'sudo'

2010-04-27 Thread Rune Philosof
There is always the chance of something crashing, no matter how you fix this
problem!
Of course having a sudoable (or root) account in the local passwd database
would remove a lot of the uncertainty that comes from relying on network for
resolving users.

Several has commented that nscd is unstable. However, I see no launchpad bug
documenting this.
I have had no problems with nscd and it seems muzzol hasn't either.
Also, I have had no problems with libnss-ldapd.

So both are possible workarounds.
The suggested release note from mathias gug doesn't really provide an
acceptable workaround as it essentially disables the use of ldap for resolving
users.

[Bug 191923] Re: DEBEMAIL confusion when using dch -e and vim

2010-04-20 Thread Rune Philosof
I believe the reporter wants to change the email-address of the current entry.
This is done automatically when run as so dch -e
Since the editor pops up with the document as you want it, the typical reaction
is to close the editor and expect the file to be as you saw it in the editor.
However, the changelog does not look like you saw in your editor.

This is true for all editors not just vim, as the reporter implies.

dch -e prints this:
r...@hilbert:~/src/devscripts-2.10.53ubuntu3$ dch -e
dch: debian/changelog unmodified; exiting.

Someone might be able to alter that text to better communicate what just
happened.

+ When changing the DEBEMAIL variable and editing via 'dch -e' the

the only change you wanted. You might exit the editor without saving.
+ However unless you save the file before exiting, the change that 'dch -e'
automatically made will not be written to the file.

- I think this scenario is extremly rare and depends on vim getting a
- buffer which is not written to the disk, but seems to be. Forced writing
- fixes the problem.
+ I think this scenario is extremely rare and depends on the editor (and

tricky) - this was just one thing which confused me pretty much, till I
  figured out, what happend.

[Bug 567139] Re: suggest solution on server errors

2010-04-20 Thread Rune Philosof
The proper action to take if nothing works out:
jpds, let say a reporter is facing a problem with a mirror: missing
package, mirror unavailable, whatever.
jpds, what would be the best process to report it ?
jibel: Find the mirrors registration at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors and contact the admin.

[Bug 567139] [NEW] suggest solution on server errors

2010-04-20 Thread Rune Philosof
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

When encoutering errors downloading files from the servers, either
during update or upgrade, update-manager should suggest a solution.

A missing file during upgrade could sometimes be fixed by updating, waiting, or
trying another mirror.
If waiting is the solution then update-manager should suggest how long waiting
time should be permitted before taking further action.
Update-manager should also instruct users of the proper action to take if none
of the solutions work. Preferably that action should just be to push a button
that automatically sends the error information to the right people, in the
right format.

[Bug 567104] [NEW] debuild twice fails

2010-04-20 Thread Rune Philosof
Public bug reported:

Errors such as this will come if you run debuild twice:

dpkg-source: error: cannot represent change to
openldap-2.4.18/contrib/slapd-modules/nssov/group.o: binary file contents
changed
dpkg-source: error: cannot represent change to
openldap-2.4.18/contrib/slapd-modules/nssov/.libs/nssov.la:
dpkg-source: error: new version is symlink to ../nssov.la
dpkg-source: error: old version is nonexistent
dpkg-source: unrepresentable changes to source
dpkg-buildpackage: error: dpkg-source -b openldap-2.4.18 gave error exit status
1
debuild: fatal error at line 1334:
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -D -us -uc failed

It seems the
 fakeroot debian/rules clean
doesn't clean up enough.
