Hi Joshua The results below are for the kernel with Bluetooth working satisfactorily. Joshua Thank you for your efforts and persistence in finding a workaround for this bug. I have recently bought an Acer V5-132 with Atheros AR9565 combined wireless/bluetooth adapter: wifi works, bluetooth fails to detect devices. I tried your kernel on fresh 64-bit install on a usb stick. Results: mainline kernel fails to detect bluetooth devices, your kernel works beautifully! Trouble is, my installation on the V5's ssd -- which I have migrated with all my applications and settings from several earlier machines/Ubuntu versions -- is 32-bit. Have you any suggestions how I could incorporating your dkms kernel package into a 32-bit kernel? Is that possible? This bug should be generalised to other file systems. It occurs using xfs and jfs, as well as ext4. In my experience the fs is not relevant, except some recover from an unclean shutdown better than others. (It's easy to try different file systems using fsarchiver, don't forget to change fstab to the new fs before reboot.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1073433 Title: Ext4 corruption associated with shutdown of Ubuntu 12.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/upstart/+bug/1073433/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1061639] Re: Upstartification of /etc/init.d/networking has lost deconfiguring-networking event causing bad side-effects
Me too! On several installations, with or without network-manager (wicd instead). I have tried workarounds suggested by yota (#16 and #21) and ernie 07 (#20) without success. Different filesystems are all affected, with JFS seeming to recover the fastest (but JFS is not yet suitable for SSDs with kernel 3.5.0.*). I have lost data with XFS and needed to recover with an image of the partition. My main laptop with ext4 has always recovered on reboot but needs to replay the journal each time. (I use fsarchiver regularly to backup.) Like others, I did not see this happen on 12.04, i.e. before upstart. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1061639 Title: Upstartification of /etc/init.d/networking has lost deconfiguring- networking event causing bad side-effects To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1061639/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 905622] Re: Mobile broadband fails after dropout
It could still be a problem, but I have changed my method of connecting to the internet. I now use a portable ZTE pocket wifi modem. [Bug 905622] Re: Mobile broadband fails after dropout
Solution at #20 only works sometimes, maybe the problem is related to the usb modem firmware 'freezing' or 'stalling', as the only way to re- establish internet connection seems to be to withdraw the modem and reinsert it. [Bug 905622] Re: Mobile broadband fails after dropout
I've worked around the dropout-then-mandatory-reboot problem in Oneiric by using wvdial (NM still handles connection to router and on forwarding to other devices). With wvdial, dropouts are reconnected and internet access continues. It's hard to measure but dropout frequency also seem less (this obviously depends on many hard-to-control variables: weather, cell range/load/usage, inside/outside etc). In Synaptic, lock all evolution packages to prevent updates overriding Jacob's ppa versions. -- No effect when unchecking "Compress weekends in month view" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/643910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 246251] Re: Calendar > Contacts > Birthdays & Anniversaries forgets displaying birthdays
Pablo, that version of evolution-data-server is no longer at the ppa referred to in post #24. It has probably been removed because there is a later version of evolution and its components available for Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid). You might be better advised to update your 9.04 to 10.04 when it is released in a few weeks (it is currently available in beta). Have you tried my suggestion 2 in post #24? [Bug 246251] Re: Calendar > Contacts > Birthdays & Anniversaries forgets displaying birthdays
I've tried two things that seem to improve the problem. 1. Connect to the repository ppa:lifeless/ppa (https://launchpad.net/~lifeless/+archive/ppa) and upgrade evolution- data-server to version 2.28.1-0ubuntu2. 2. From System/Preferences/Startup Applications uncheck Evolution Alarm Notifier. That prevents evolution-data-server from starting at next boot/login. It will start, along with evolution alarm notifier, when you manually start evolution from the menu. Not being notifier of events is the trade-off, but I usually start evolution soon after login anyway -- no big deal. This is less tedious than I mentioned in post #20. (As in #23, you may need to uncheck/check birthdays and anniversaries, or simply refresh the view by scrolling.) -- Calendar > Contacts > Birthdays & Anniversaries forgets displaying birthdays https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246251 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If evolution-data-server is running before you start evolution you may experience this bug. Kill evolution-data-server before you start evolution and try again. [Bug 246251] Re: Calendar > Contacts > Birthdays & Anniversaries forgets displaying birthdays
A workaround is to backup evolution (file --> backup settings). When restarted uncheck/check birthdays and anniversaries and that should force then to appear. It's tedious but probably good practice to backup anyway. I thought this problem was related to sharing my .evolution folder with another computer through Dropbox, but having read this and similar threads, it seems to be a longstanding bug in evolution. -- Calendar > Contacts > Birthdays & Anniversaries forgets displaying birthdays https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/246251 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Richard, it's recognised by the kernel in about 30% of insertions on my two computers. In those 30%, checking ls -la /dev/ttyU* return no file or directory. Latest kernel (2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 16:20:31 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux) seems to make no improvement to the reliability of connection with my e169. I get maybe 40-50% first-time connections. But I did find the information on this helpful (http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=47200). Basically, if your modem does not connect, do ls -la /dev/ttyU*. If that reports no such file or directlory, load the usb-serial module with sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1001 (change the product=* to suit your modem). ls -la /dev/ttyU* should now report at least /dev/ttyUSB0 and Network Manager will connect. (If you use wicd and wvdial/gnome-ppp, manually start connection.) You may still have problems with DNS (it seems connected but won't reach a web address), if so, disconnect any wireless networks and restart your mobile broadband. Re: [Bug 446146] Re: Several Huawei USB dongle don't work with kernel 2.6.31-12.40 (2.6.31.1 update related)
Carl, I have the same issues of unreliable connections, even with 2.6.31-15.50 and E169 -- NM icons spins then fails to connects, this can happen several times before the network is established, but always happens at least once after a reboot (see post #73 for kernel developer's similar experience). It usually connects after suspend, though. See Tiger99's post at #217 for an alternative to NM. This works reliable for me and indicates to me that the problems are not just kernel/device related (the earlier problem with kernel 2.6.31-14.48 is solved with upgrade to *-15.50.) but also related to Network Manager and/or Modem Manager. It would be interesting if others could confirm this experience. [Bug 446146] Re: Huawei E169 USB dongle not working with kernel 2.6.31-12.40

I would be really interested in a view from someone on the release team / kernel team about the importance of mobile broadband access for new or less experienced users with this popular modem. Come, guys, we have not heard from you since Andy's post #39 on 16 October. -- Huawei E169 USB dongle not working with kernel 2.6.31-12.40 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/446146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
