As far as i know Kubuntu Hardy heron uses Pulseaudio instead of alsa for sound driver. I also have the same problem as Vytas has. You are right it probably had to do with the graphics card i had (ATI Radeon 9550) ... Since a few weeks i have build a new computer for myself, and because i always had trouble with DRI in Linux i bought me a Nvidia Card. But in VLC i have a big green bar above in the screen and Xine and Mplayer won't play sound at all ...
