2015-05-05 Thread Saad Bin Javed

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  I have a Dell XPS 15 L502X with Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 [Rainbow Peak]
running Ubuntu 14.04 (fresh install). Wifi stops working intermittently during
active usage and *always* after screen off. Syslog shows this message just
before it happens:
  kernel: [ 4832.867113] wlan0: AP XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX changed bandwidth, new
config is 2412 MHz, width 1 (2412/0 MHz)

This happens regularly. I have tried some tweaks suggested to users facing
wifi problems in Ubuntu 14.04. My iwlwifi.conf is this:
  # /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
  options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0 swcrypto=1 11n_disable=8

This does not solve the issue.

[Bug 1165389] [NEW] run in terminal option in nautilus-actions-config-tool doesn't work

2013-04-06 Thread Saad Bin Javed
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 and Nautilus Actions Configuration Tool 3.1.4.
When ever I select the option 'run in terminal' in execution tab...it
doesn't work. The comand i'm running shows a progress bar which is not
visible using any other option. How can I fix this?

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 1087000] [NEW] slow transfer speed for cifs shares in nautilus

2012-12-05 Thread Saad Bin Javed
Public bug reported:

This bug is similar to Bug #810606 (Slow cifs in 11.04). I'm reporting
it because that one is marked EXPIRED while the issue is still not
fixed.

Transferring files to and from cifs shares, mounted via fstab entries,
is a considerably slow process in nautilus. Transferring to same shares
via rsync or ssh is 2-3x faster. Over my wireless network, I get speeds
of ~5MB/s with rsync and ssh. In nautilus, speed drops to 2.5MB/s max.
I've set the CIFSMaxShare to 130048 and rsize option in the fstab entry
but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

The problem seems to happen only on first run. Restarting empathy
removes the duplicate entries. Should be an easy fix for this.

Disabling pepperflash plugin doesnt work for me.

Saad Bin Javed you can try this workaround

This is what I figured out actually works:
- Type about:plugins in your address bar
- Click Details on the upper right corner
- Locate the entry for libpepflashplayer.so
-- Click Disable
- Locate the entry for libflashplayer.so
-- The entry should already, if not enable it, or you'll lose flash support.

Restart Chrome and you'll be popping-free. But you will get the
annoying there is an flash update dialogues. Better than the popping.

[Bug 991853] [NEW] [Dell System XPS L502X, Realtek ALC665, Speaker, Internal] Unpredictable loss of audio when two apps are calling Pulseaudio

2012-04-30 Thread Saad Bin Javed
Public bug reported:

When I'm running two program that have a sound output (e.g. a youtube
video and VLC), I lose audio in one program off and on. Here is what
happens: I'm watching the youtube clip, I pause it and switch to VLC and
VLC loses sound. The sound indicator does not show muting. The
Applications tab under Sound Settings does not show the VLC. If I stop
and restart VLC the audio starts working again. This does not happen
every time but regularily enough for it to be a problem.

[Bug 990981] [NEW] Wifi switched off after login (Intel Centrino-N 1030)

2012-04-29 Thread Saad Bin Javed
Public bug reported:

After login in Ubuntu 12.04, my wifi connection in the network manager
is always disconnected. The laptop (Dell XPS 15 L502x) wifi switch is
off and I have to manually start it up with Fn+F2. This happens every
time. I was running Fedora 16 before switching to ubuntu and in Fedora
wifi was always connected after login, so I'm thinking this is a
wireless configuration bug? If anybody needs any other information, I'll
be happy to provide it.

I've noticed that this usually occurs when I'm playing some video in

system becomes totally unresponsive and needs a hard reset. I've been
able to reproduce this a couple of times now.

[Bug 778366] Re: gnome-do sleeps in the background in natty

2011-05-06 Thread Saad Bin Javed
It seems to be some kind of shortcut assignment problem. The default
shortcut (Superspace) doesn't seem to work but once you change it to
some other combination, it starts working fine. I do have to investigate
this further. Maybe there's some conflict with some other program
assigned a similar shortcut. SInce I don't have custom shortcuts
assigned to any programs, I suspect it must be one of the default
programs...maybe Unity? (Because the Superspace combination used to
work fine in earlier versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 636814] [NEW] Library watcher doesnot add new files automatically

2010-09-12 Thread Saad Bin Javed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and Banshee 1.6.1 The problem with this
release (and all past releases) on my machine is that the Music Library does
not get updated when I add files to my music folder. The folder in question is
not on the root or home partition but on a separate fat32 partition (which i've
properly set as the source). I don't
think that should be a problem for the player but it doesn't update the
Library. Not even upon restarting. I have to manually add the files which is
very frustrating. If some one could help with this it would be much
appreciated.

[Bug 401066] [NEW] Totem crashes while playing xvid encoded files and DVDs

2009-07-18 Thread Saad Bin Javed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I'm using Jaunty on a low end system (1.5Ghz, 256MB RAM). Totem crashes
while trying to play DVDs and Xvid encoded AVIs. ffmpeg is not installed
on this system, just basic Ubuntu install with restricted-extras. Other
types of AVI files (like DivX encoded) seem to work fine. I've tried to
play the file in VLC, Totem, MPlayer...VLC and Totem crash while MPlayer
gives sound but no video. If launched from terminal totem exits with the
following output:

/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/gdata/tlslite/utils/cryptomath.py:9:
DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module instead
  import sha
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 73 error_code 11 request_code 132 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I've tried the file on a faster machine and it plays okay. So does in
WinXP on this system. Maybe xvid codec requires further optimization to
run on low spec machines???

[Bug 236663] Re: No easy way to mount pre-existing partitions after OS installed

2009-05-17 Thread Saad Bin Javed
The problem is still not fixed in Jaunty. I still had to modify my
/etc/fstab so that the partitions carrying my music would auto-mount at
startup and rythmbox wouldn't throw up import errors. I don't expect any
new user to know the problem and the way to fix it. All he would think
is that his OS is broken because he has to manually auto mount
partitions upon every reboot.

[Bug 377842] [NEW] artifacts and glitches are painted on the screen by radeon 9200 chipset using opensource ati driver

2009-05-17 Thread Saad Bin Javed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

My system uses an older model of the Radeon 9200 chipset [rev280] which
has a PCI interface and it uses the opensource ati driver [xserver-xorg-
video-ati 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2]. With the installation of Ubuntu 9.04, I
have noticed artifacts being drawn on the screen in 1) progress bars 2)
conky and 3) some button widgets. These artifacts appear BOTH in the
default Human theme and currently in-use Murrine Blue theme. I have
enabled in-built compositing in metacity but the problem occurs with or
without compositing enabled [compiz is not in use]. I have not tweaked
the xorg.conf or any graphics settings...they are the ones provided by
the OS.
