By the way, it is a new laptop out of the box with a fresh install.
Seems strange to have a disk failure

[Bug 1727053] [NEW] Ubuntu cant be installed, Problem with CD drive or something else

2017-10-24 Thread Sacha Vogt
Public bug reported:

Hello
First I had windows 10 on my HP laptop. But I was very unhappy with it. So I
tried to install others services like Linux or Ubuntu but I had a lot of
struggles to install the ISO and burn it on CD, so I bought the CD Ubuntu
10.10. Now I tried to boot and install with this CD but I got new problems, the
System says something is wrong with CD drives (?).
My Question how can I fix it and at least install Ubuntu.

[Bug 1315829] Re: [Acer Travelmate 5740G] bus cycle unavailable

2014-06-25 Thread Sacha Refshauge
I also receive this issue.
It was booting fine on Ubuntu 14.10 and I did a dist-upgrade. Following the
dist-upgrade, Ubuntu would fail to boot. When entering recovery mode, I found
the boot froze on the exact same lines as in the OP.

I have a core i5-520m and a Radeon 5650M.

I tested kernel 3.13.0.24.28 kernel and 3.15.0.6.7 (latest linux-generic
on utopic) and both had the same result.

[Bug 1315829] Re: [Acer Travelmate 5740G] bus cycle unavailable

2014-06-25 Thread Sacha Refshauge
Note: On a fresh install it will be working and these are the lines that follow
(where it usually freezes):

NMI watchdog: enabled on all CPUs, permanently consumes one hw-PMU counter.
 #2 #3
 x86: Booted up 1 node, 4 CPUs
smpboot: Total of 4 processors activated (19159.92 BogoMIPS)

After upgrading software packages in Ubuntu (but not changing the kernel
at all), these lines will never be reached.

[Bug 537970] Re: Evince does not print images in some pdf files.

2014-03-19 Thread Rouven Sacha
I can confirm this bug with a current 12.04 setup. Evince shows the
files just fine but the print (on some printers) doesn't include the
images.

Adobe Reader prints the files happily on the same printers.

Evince 3.10 from 14.04 also prints the files just fine.

Hello,

Bug for me too...

Both on my intel video GPU and my nVidia GPU... same problem with
tooltips. Once dash is launched, tolltips appear correctly, without this
example of action, i have the same descrition before.

This is not a huge bug but it is not very eye-candy... ;-)

When the fix for precise is expected? 12.04.2 seems to be too far away..
for an LTS distrib. ;-)

[Bug 649917] Re: GLIb-WARNING **: getpwid_r(): failed due to unknown user id

2011-09-13 Thread sacha@ubuntu
Hello!

This bug is absolutely not fixed! The message is hidden but the system could'nt
launch xorg and gdm. Blank screen and only ctrl-alt-del can reboot the machine
to try a next boot.

It seems to be linked with plymouth.

I've a debian testing on the same desktop and i've never seen this bug
on debian. But, on debian, plymouth is not installed!

How can we unistall plymouth properly on lucid 10.04.2 LTS?

Hello!

The bug is not fixed at all! After one of several kernel updates, the
bug reappears!

Plymouth seems to be the cause.

To fix : sudo dpkg-reconfigure plymouth solve temporally the problem to
the new kernel upgrade...

I'm also on a debian testing. I've never seen this bug on debian because
debian don't use plymouth...

How can we safely remove plymouth?

Workaround?

Uninstall packages and reinstall it with a sudo aptitude install
language-pack-gnome-fr command gives a good result and reinsall old
versions of those packages. After, Update-manager cannot upgrade, the
bug still here but the language on system is good. On update manager,
the two packages are not selected in the window. Upgrade is impossible
to the new version.

[Bug 800700] Re: Lucid: package language-pack-gnome-fr cannot be upgraded

2011-06-24 Thread sacha@ubuntu
@David and Alan :

Did you have installed the firefox stable PPA with ubuntu-tweak or
manually?

They are, in this PPA, a lot of update language packages named like
language-pack-fr and language-pack-fr-base, not gnome of course.

They are not dependancies with language-pack-gnone-fr but desccribed on
launchpad as similar.

In link with our problem? A possible confusion update? I think no, it's
for mozilla packages, but...

[Bug 751175] Re: Time and Date Settings don't load (Natty Beta 1)

2011-04-27 Thread sacha@ubuntu
I confirm that, when i kill the processus indicator-datetime-
preferences, the applet works fine after.

But, i haven'nt this processus after boot and login. The fisrt time
after i hit the preference option, then, the pocessus appears once. I
kill it, i restart the preferences and it works fine.

If i reboot, the bug appears

It seems to be a lot of problems with the root permissions, when i've
checked my sourcelists for example, without message and after few
minutes, the screen freezes and hard reset is needed. It would be
linked?

2011-04-27 Thread sacha@ubuntu
Why people doesn't suffer of this bug?

On ubuntu-fr.org, some users doesn't have this bug on natty beta2. Why?

It's strange! If it's a bug of policykit, why some users don't have this
bug too?

Why it's works with another session and not on the first session?

[Bug 751175] Re: Time and Date Settings don't load (Natty Beta 1)

2011-04-26 Thread sacha@ubuntu
Hello!

I'm running on a fresh upgrade of Natty (this day).

On my first session (created on intall), hiting preferences of date/time
applet does'nt work. I've deleted gconfd, gconf and gnome, none!

I have tested sudo dpkg-reconfigure tzdata, none!

I have tested with another session. And, on this session, it works!

It's strange that we must switch to another session to modify
preferences of date/time.

So, anybody had tested with a new session?

[Bug 540801] Re: X server starts before Plymouth, or a very short time after (no or brief splash)

2011-01-13 Thread sacha@ubuntu
Hello!

@Florian Snow:

Did you have done with sudo? To modify initramfs tools, you must be
connected with root permissions.

Read comment n°29 and try the method of Chritian Göbel.

It works for me with an intel graphic card on Ubunut 10.04 and 10.10.

[Bug 619343] Re: High CPU on events/0 or 1 and on board networkcard non functional

2010-10-27 Thread sacha
I've had very similar problems with my lenovo x61 Tablet running 10.04.
I've tried with 2.6.32.-21, 22, 23, and 25, and same event/0 or event/1
CPU spiking (and networks LEDs on the whole time since the Starting Up
message, right after choosing the kernel we want to use in grub.

I can only use wireless: Wired network doesn't work anymore and the
Wired Networks menu always displays Disconnected and is greyed out.

typing sudo ip link set eth0 down stops the CPU spikes as well.

[Bug 554172] Re: CUPS and other system services not starting at boot

2010-08-04 Thread Sacha Kagan
As a very average nonexpert user, I want to point out that I have been
switching to Windows for 2 months now, each time I wanted to print,
because I didn't have time to hunt for the forums. It is only a couple
of days ago that I got so frustrated with Lucid Lynx not printing, that
I finally found this bug report page ( learned the different
workaround tips)... Many users probably, like I did, just reboot on
windows to print, and some, maybe many, probably abandon the Lynx
altogether (this bug is really annoying). You may be losing a number of
non-expert users if you continue to perceive this bug as only high
priority, based on the little hundred of users following this bug
report... It may be affecting many more people (i.e. a severe impact on
a large portion of Ubuntu users), but not necessarily the people who
populated the user forums launchpad webpages... Of course, it's hard
to tell... Good luck with solving this bug asap, which is a nasty thorn
in your lynx's paw! (Of course, I am one of the many people incapable of
applying the more cumbersome workarounds described by some users on
this webpage... I just reinstalled CUPS hope that will do for now...)

[Bug 460705] Re: [Sony Corporation VGN-SZ1M_B] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2010-04-27 Thread Sacha Muszlak
I have updated Ubuntun to 10.04 LTS
As far as I see resume from standby works much better, even thou there
is still a blurry moment before login again.

And Hibernate seems to be just like a shut down : no resume, just a
normal boot sequence.

this follows a new apport report.

[Bug 460705] Re: [Sony Corporation VGN-SZ1M_B] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2010-04-26 Thread Sacha Muszlak
I have send the apport information with the latest CD available but
without installing the non-free nvidia drivers.

Going into suspend is fine, it is coming back from it that fails with a
blurry screen that looks likes as if the frequency is wrong.

I will try get the upstream kernel with my actual install (with nvidia drivers,
witch fails resume somewhat ramdomly) and see if there is any improvements.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for the tests.

2008-12-04 Thread Rouven Sacha
Can confirm, that this is still an issue on several intrepid amd64
machines.

Evolution crashes reproducibly when pressing the Choose Today button
in the calndar view. I don't seem to be getting any backtraces - just
the before mentioned error message when i start evo from the console.

is there any way to debug that problem any further?

[Bug 288252] Re: recording not working properly

2008-10-25 Thread Sacha
I have a Conexant Audio on ATI IXP on a HP Pavillion zv6000.
I started up the 8.10RC Live CD and tested out sound recording.

Problem 1:
Every real second of recording resulted in approximately 30 seconds (definitely
not a whole minute though) of recorded audio. In about a minute, I had a 22
minute audio file.

Problem 2:
I did File-New to create a new recording project. It then created a new window
with the title Untitled - 4 while the previous window had been simply
Untitled. The default file listed on the bottom was now Untitled (3) whilst
the previous was just Untitled. I am not sure where it got '4' or '3' from, let
alone how it was getting different numbers on default for the same project.
Just default numbers, a minor bug, but still.

Problem 3:
I decided to record again. This time it only got up to 3 minutes and 30 seconds
(actually about 6 real seconds) before seemingly pausing itself and killing the
gnome panels. Now I just had a bare desktop wallpaper with the recording app
above it. A few seconds later, the entire system froze and I couldn't move my
mouse or reboot X (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace).

[Bug 288252] Re: recording not working properly

2008-10-25 Thread Sacha
Are you able to record properly using another recording program? No.
Are you using pulseaudio? No. In sound settings, it doesn't have (Pulseaudio)
after my device.
Can you attach the output of the following script?
http://alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh This script isn't working. /bin/bash^M is
an invalid interpreter and when I run it in bash i just get line errors.

[Bug 78566] startup programs delayed for 2 minutes with compiz/beryl enabled

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

If i start gnome with beryl/compiz enabled from gdm with a .desktop that

[Bug 71836] Segfault in Samba (kerberos related)

2006-11-14 Thread Sacha J. Bernstein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Using samba on AD.

Changes made from the time that it was working to now:

- added to smb.conf:

   use kerberos keytab = True

- re-ran 'net join'

Files are still accessable. Authentication still works. I have not yet
noticed anything other than the following email I receive every time a
file is accessed:

The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,
was called for pid 23905 (/usr/sbin/smbd).

Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occurred.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the
samba-dbg package which contains the debugging symbols for samba
binaries. Then, submit the provided information as a bug report to Ubuntu.
