[Bug 1394716] [NEW] empty files (zero bytes)

2014-11-20 Thread Saddy
Public bug reported:

After a year of usage or so many files on my encrypted hdd are now empty
(zero bytes). Since there are many of them in different (random) folders
I'm pretty sure I did not empty them myself accidently. SMART values of
the drive seem o.k. (5 months usage). I notived that when there are
empty files, then the whole directory is affected, so all files in this
dir are empty. If you need further details please let me know.

[Bug 1321870] [NEW] mouse clicks displaced

2014-05-21 Thread Saddy
Public bug reported:

"Sometimes" mouse clicks in unity are displaced:
When I click on a specific folder e.g. in nautilus, the folder below is
selected. This also effects thunderbird (so I believe it's independent from the
program). So technically when I click on (x=100px, y=500px), the mouse click is
catched at (100px, 600px) (upper left corrdinates). If I remember correctly
this isn't the case for the unity launcher or the top menu but only for the
rest of the visible area.

I also believe that it startet when I switched apps from the unity
launcher and it stopped when switching more times again.

[Bug 1312336] [NEW] microphone not working

2014-04-24 Thread Saddy
Public bug reported:

I tried unmuting the mic with pavucontrol, the sound dialog of
unity-control-center and gstreamer-properties (see attachment).
If I click record in gnome-sound-recorder, nothing happens and the following
message is thrown:

(gnome-sound-recorder:4655): GStreamer-WARNING **: Element
'gconfaudiosource' already has parent

Then I tried to record sound with audacity with all available input devices:
still no sound.
I also tried removing pulseaudio and restarting but to no avail. Not sure if
it's due to pulseaudio though.

2013-01-20 Thread Saddy
I don't have any new .crash files, since I didn't experience any new
crashes with my workaround. I only will trigger a new crash if you
really need another .crash besides that one I postet (in crashes.tar.gz)
above.

2013-01-11 Thread Saddy
I downloaded my own old _usr_bin_compiz.1000.crash file and executed ubuntu-bug
_usr_bin_compiz.1000.crash.
Then a dialog appears which says that Ubuntu experienced an internal error. The
details section says its executable path is /usr/bin/compiz. After clicking
continue apport-gtk is active a few seconds but then nothing happens. Was this
it?

[Bug 1053380] [NEW] login screen crash

2012-09-20 Thread Saddy
Public bug reported:

Sometimes (about 70% of the time) when I try to log in my account, I
type my password -> enter -> both screens go black and then I'm on the
login screen again. Paradoxically I can predict this behaviour befor it:
If it will appear and I type an arbitrary number of password signs the
scroll lock LED on my keyboard goes on (which I usually never see). It's
off again after I pressed enter.

Then, if I type my password again everything goes normal.

Another thing, that I think has to do with it:
If I enable auto login for my user, I get logged in to my desktop and a
password box appears. If I then cancel it, my desktop gives me some weird
graphics glitches and it's unusable. If I enter my password in the box and
I'm on the login screen again, where I can proceed as usual.

[Bug 745474] [NEW] Kernel panic when usb wlan adapter is connected during boot

2011-03-29 Thread Saddy
Public bug reported:

Hello,

the adapter is an OvisLink Corp. Air Live WLAN USB device. If the adapter is
connected after booting, it is working fine.
See attachments for a foto of the panic and kern.log.
These are the different modules loaded before and after connecting the device:

$ diff lsmod.txt lsmod.txt2
1a2,5
> arc41497 2
> zd1211rw 49928 0
> mac80211 267099 1 zd1211rw

34c38
< usbserial 39780 5 option,usb_wwan
---
> usbserial 39780 4 option,usb_wwan

(I think the ppp module is due to the UMTS modem also connected with the
network-manager).

http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/disk-byuuid-does-not-exist/ (german) I get
the error message above directy before booting into the (new) kernels
2.6.27-9-generic and 2.6.24-21-generic in about ~50% of the boots. If so, the
system says "gave up waiting for root device" and drops me into the initramfs
shell (See

[Bug 311927] [NEW] /disk/by-uuid/ does not exist

2008-12-28 Thread Saddy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

As described in this post
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/disk-byuuid-does-not-exist/ (german) I get
the error message above directy after booting into the (new) kernels
2.6.27-9-generic and 2.6.24-21-generic in about ~50% of the boots. If so, the
system says "gave up waiting for root device" and drops me into the initramfs
shell (See
http://media.ubuntuusers.de/forum/attachments/1752674/initramfs.png).
In the other 50% of the cases the system boots and I can check my configuration
with

sudo blkid
/dev/sda1: UUID="1A5093135092F4AB" TYPE="ntfs"
/dev/sdb1: UUID="b8116d40-b60a-48bf-a387-e525095c44f7" TYPE="ext3"
/dev/sdb2: UUID="d4bd4a19-8f56-4c0e-8e7a-742582df5577" TYPE="jfs"
/dev/sdb5: TYPE="swap" UUID="91cdb49a-f28e-4ce2-b171-baf6c423f31d".

In other cases, when the boot was successful (on the same system) I get
a config like this:

sudo blkid
/dev/sda1: UUID="b8116d40-b60a-48bf-a387-e525095c44f7" TYPE="ext3"
/dev/sdb1: UUID="1A5093135092F4AB" TYPE="ntfs"
/dev/sda2: UUID="d4bd4a19-8f56-4c0e-8e7a-742582df5577" TYPE="jfs"
/dev/sda5: TYPE="swap" UUID="91cdb49a-f28e-4ce2-b171-baf6c423f31d"

(/sda1 and /sdb1 swapped)

sdb1 is my Linux partition (on a SATA drive) while sda1 should be my Win
partition (IDE).

I changed my groot like this
## default grub root device
## e.g. groot=(hd0,0)
# groot=b8116d40-b60a-48bf-a387-e525095c44f7

so, that my boot entry looks like this
title Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic
uuidb8116d40-b60a-48bf-a387-e525095c44f7
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-9-generic
root=UUID=b8116d40-b60a-48bf-a387-e525095c44f7 ro quiet splash
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-9-generic
quiet

If I change it to
 title Ubuntu 8.10, kernel 2.6.27-9-generic
 root(hd1,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-9-generic root=/dev/sdb1 ro quiet splash
 initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.27-9-generic

the system doesn't boot at all.
With the older kernel 2.6.24-19-generic everything works fine.

My device.map:
cat /boot/grub/device.map
(hd0) /dev/sda
(hd1) /dev/sdb

As you can see on
http://media.ubuntuusers.de/forum/attachments/1752674/initramfs.png, my
linux device is not listed by initramfs (it should have an id like ATA
SAMSUNG HD502IJ).
