[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

2016-11-28 Thread Sami Jaktholm
If you are running in complain mode you could look at the audit log and
see what AppArmor complains about when you are browsing the web with
e10s enabled. If you see AppArmor complaining about Firefox accessing
some specific paths, those might be causing he issues you are seeing.

[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

2016-09-24 Thread Sami Jaktholm
As a workaround, you can run the following commands to allow Firefox to
access shared memory:

  echo "/dev/shm/org.chromium.* rw," | sudo tee -a
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.firefox
  sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.firefox

That should make e10s work again with AppArmor enforcement enabled.

[Bug 1627239] Re: Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled

2016-09-24 Thread Sami Jaktholm
Okay. I dug a bit deeper and this issue is caused by the AppArmor
profile shipped with Firefox that I have enabled. The syslog contains
following entries from AppArmor when running Firefox e10s enabled and
the firefox profile in enforce mode:

audit: type=1400 audit(1474776774.198:579): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="mknod" profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}"
name="/dev/shm/org.chromium.h4apSY" pid=5022 comm=57656220436F6E74656E74
requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

audit: type=1400 audit(1474776774.222:580): apparmor="DENIED"
operation="mknod" profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}"
name="/dev/shm/org.chromium.VpQMbW" pid=5022 comm=57656220436F6E74656E74
requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

So Firefox tries to access /dev/shm but the default AppArmor profile
denies it. So the profile needs to be changed to make it compatible with
e10s.

** Summary changed:

- Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled
+ Web pages not rendering with e10s enabled and AppArmor profile in enforce mode

** Description changed:

  STR:
- 1. Open Firefox 49 with clean profile
+ 0. Enable enforce mode for the Firefox app-armor profile: sudo aa-enforce
usr.bin.firefox
+ 1. Open Firefox 49 with clean profile (or force-enable e10s as per
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Electrolysis#Force_Enable and restart Firefox)
  2. Go to any site

  What happens: The site loads but the content is rendered blank. The page
  is loaded properly since I can hover over (invisible) links and see the
  cursor change & the address to be shown in the bottom of the window.

  What should happen: The site is rendered properly.

- This is related to e10s and how the Ubuntu builds are configured / built:
- * If e10s is disabled, everything works fine.
- * If I download Firefox 49 release build built by Mozilla, pages are rendered
correctly with both e10s and non-e10s windows.
-
- If I execute firefox from the command line, I see the following output
repeated constantly:
- [GFX1]: Failed 2 buffer db=0 dw=0 for 1356, 0, 64, 673
- [GFX1]: Failed 2 buffer db=0 dw=0 for 0, 0, 64, 500
- ... continues forever with different coordinates
+ This is related to e10s and the default AppArmor profile shipped with
+ firefox.

[Bug 1511000] [NEW] The Fade plugin causes new windows with opacity=0.0 to briefly flash on the screen

2015-10-28 Thread Sami Jaktholm
Public bug reported:

STR:
1. Download the attached testcase (testcase.c) and install libgtk-3-dev package.
2. Compile it: gcc `pkg-config --cflags gtk+-3.0` -o testcase testcase.c
`pkg-config --libs gtk+-3.0`
3. Run the testcase: ./testcase

What happens: When the testcase is executed the black rectangle appears briefly
before fading out.
What should happen: When the testcase is executed a black rectangle should not
appear as the window is fully transparent.

If I disable the fade plugin everything works as it should: the fully
transparent window is transparent the whole time.

Firefox will be using this kind of technique (the testcase is based on
the Firefox implementation) to create an enter-to-fullscreen (and exit)
animation in future releases (it's at least in Nightly at the moment).
So every time you go full screen for example in YouTube this bug in the
fade plugin causes extra flickering as they initially a transparent
window is first shown and then faded out by the plugin before Firefox
fades it in itself.

[Bug 1440162] Re: Misplaced spinner in sound menu

2015-04-28 Thread Sami Jaktholm
Here's what I see on current Trusty:
* Initially when there's nothing playing the spinner appears at the correct
position.
* When I start playing something the menu is made a lot wider when the Now
Playing info appears.
* Now the spinner appears left of the Play button, over the Previous button
as the menu is wider than before.

[Bug 1306417] [NEW] Lockscreen can be bypassed after screen has blanked

2014-04-11 Thread Sami Jaktholm
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Lock the screen
2. Let the lockscreen blank
3. Press ALT+TAB

What happens:
The application switcher appears and it's possible to switch between
applications. The chosen application will get keyboard focus and any input will
go there.

What should happen:
Nothing. Lockscreen should grab the keyboard and stop the input from going
anywhere.

This has security implications. For example it's possible to open the
Run command view and run unity --replace to destroy the lockscreen
and open the session.

[Bug 1283786] [NEW] The title of unfocused maximized window remains in panel when it's closed with LIM enabled

2014-02-23 Thread Sami Jaktholm
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
0. Have menus to be in window title bars.
1. Open a window that's maximized.
2. Open and focus a window that's unmaximized.
3. Use the controls in panel to close or minimize the maximized window.

What happens: The title of the maximized window is still in the top bar.

What should happen: The title should disappear.

See the attached screenshot for a bogus 'Untitled 1 - LibreOffice
Writer' in the panel.
