[Bug 855269] Re: Could not install "linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic" during upgrade to 11.04
Reboot successful. At least in my case, the error was caused by not enough space in my /boot partition. update-manager should check for space in all the partitions it will write to, not just /. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/855269 Title: Could not install "linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic" during upgrade to 11.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/855269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 855269] Re: Could not install "linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic" during upgrade to 11.04
After closing the update-manager, I attempted to run: sudo apt-get purge linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic This gave me a lengthy error that suggested there was not enough space to install. It turns out my /boot partition was full, so I removed some old linux-image packages and ran: sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic sudo dpgk-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic This appeared to be successful. I will now reboot and see if it actually was. Assuming it works, it would appear that the bug is the update- manager not checking if there is enough space in a separate /boot partition. The update-manager noticed there wasn't enough space in / and aborted, but it apparently doesn't check for multi-partition schemes.

I just got this same error running dist-upgrade from Kubuntu 10.10 x64 to 11.04, except with linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic.

As suggested by the update-manager, here is the contents of my /var/log /dist-upgrade. The update-manager says my system may be in an unusable state upon reboot, so I'm about to find out if that's true. ** Attachment added: "The contents of /var/log/dist-upgrade" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/855269/+attachment/2610848/+files/dist-upgrade.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/855269 Title: Could not install "linux-image-2.6.38-11-generic" during upgrade to 11.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/855269/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
