[Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete
Bear in mind that third-party software isn't all developed on Ubuntu. It's patently unreasonable to try to force third-party developers to code specially for Ubuntu. It seems rather arrogant for Ubuntu to try to dictate to third-party developers their own idea of best practices. What's the harm in leaving the whitelist as long as even one app uses it? (It should have been created as a blacklist from the beginning, but that's water under the bridge now.) I've also noted that all of the comments on this bug save two have been negative, yet the developers don't feel compelled to defend their decision in the face of strong opposition. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974480 Title: Notification area whitelist is obsolete To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/974480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1082297] [NEW] Wrong permissions when using Save As
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: === 1. Download a PDF from the internet. 2. When Firefox asks what to do with the file, choose the option to open it in Evince. 3. Once the PDF is open in Evince, do a File Save as. 4. Observe that the file is created with the permissions 0400. Correct behavior: = Evince should follow the same permissions model as other programs, using the umask to determine the default permissions, which would be 0644 on a default Ubuntu machine. Impact of the bug: == Because of the incorrect permissions, it's impossible to directly overwrite an affected PDF without manually fixing the permissions. [Bug 916879] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in unity::switcher::SwitcherController::CompareSwitcherItemsPriority()
This bug was introduced into Oneiric by an SRU. It's a regression. It was fixed a couple of months ago, yet the fix remains unavailable to the current stable version of Ubuntu, which, as pointed out above, will remain in widespread use for several months yet. Furthermore, it is a *major* usability bug. Surely AltTab is one of the most widely used keyboard shortcuts. It's simply impossible to remember to avoid it in order to avoid a crash. I've worked around this bug by switching to Unity 2D, but what about those who aren't so technically inclined? Are they able to work around it? Will they find this bug report and the workarounds posted here? Normally, I'm not one to add to bug noise by complaining. But this seems to me to be a basic issue of responsibility. I understand that bugs are a fact of life, but if you break it, you should fix it -- especially when the fix is already available, and especially when the breakage was due to an SRU. It seems that someone ought to take enough pride in their work that they take basic responsibility. I know that these kinds of complaints are generally frowned upon, but what recourse do I have? I don't have the ability to apply the fix myself, and there's no other place I'm aware of that's more appropriate for this purpose. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916879 Title: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in unity::switcher::SwitcherController::CompareSwitcherItemsPriority() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/916879/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 923568] [NEW] Presenter Console extension does nothing
Public bug reported: The Presenter Console (libreoffice-presenter-console) does nothing when enabled. I expect to see a helpful panel of information on my laptop while Impress is in slideshow mode showing slides on the external display. However, the extension has absolutely no visible effect on what happens. My screen looks exactly the same as if the extension wasn't installed, and there are no error messages. The only indication that it's installed is that I can see it in the extensions manager. This bug occurs on every machine I've tested over the last approximately two years. [Bug 920281] [NEW] Screen brightness inverted when on battery
Public bug reported: When my HP Mini 110-1000 is running on AC power, screen brightness works correctly. However, when I'm running on battery, the following happens after about 20 seconds or so of no user activity: - First, the screen gets *brighter*--nearly 100% brightness. - Second, the keyboard brightness keys are inverted: the brightness up key decreases brightness and vice versa. However, brightness only varies over a narrow range which is entirely brighter than the normal brightness for running on battery. - Moving the mouse or hitting a normal key restores brightness to the expected levels for battery mode and restores the brightness keys to normal operation. After about 20 seconds of no user input, the bug pops up again. I'm running Oneiric with kernel 3.0.0-15-generic. I first noticed this bug upon upgrading to Oneiric, but another bug kept me running a Natty kernel (2.6.38-10) until recently. Natty kernels didn't exhibit this bug, so it's a regression. [Bug 909613] [NEW] dconf-editor is sometimes too tall
Public bug reported: When dconf-editor runs, its height changes arbitrarily. Usually I run it maximized (I'm on a netbook with a screen resolution of 1024x576). Generally, it's OK, but for some items the window becomes far too tall for my screen for no apparent reason. The first attached screenshot is what I see when I browse to com.canonical.indicator.datetime.custom-time-format with dconf-editor maximized. I know how to use Alt+Drag to move the window, but how many users know about that? And since the close buttons disappear, they'd be in a real predicament. The next two screenshots show neighboring options with the dconf-editor window at its minimum height. As you can see, both displays are unreasonable, since you can't see which option is selected. However, the one doesn't even fit in my screen. This bug affects multiple items in dconf-editor; I just gave a single example. It affects the two machines I've tested it on (including one with a much larger screen), and I've seen it in both Natty and Oneiric. Of course, the proper behaviors here are: 1. The scrollable pane where settings can be changed should have its minimum height specified such that at least one line is readable at all times. 2. The window's minimum height should be set in a sane way. 3. If the windows minimum height exceeds the available screen height, the window should scroll. [Bug 734428] Re: [Upstream] Wrong automatic text color dark grey with black background
The proper solution here is to decouple the default text colors from the GTK theme. As pointed out earlier, an LibO document should look the same on any computer, provided the requisite fonts are installed. Since this bug is getting ignored upstream, and since it's particularly apparent on Ubuntu due to the Ambiance theme, can we go ahead and fix it here? Upstream users who aren't on Ubuntu likely don't even notice this bug. [Bug 800222] Re: Intermittent freeze - UI won't respond to clicks or keypresses
I don't know how recent the latest compiz updates are, but I'm guessing they've been out for a while since I don't recall seeing them. The machine I originally reported the bug about experiences these crashes less frequently under Oneiric than Natty. It hasn't crashed in a while, but considering the crash pattern lately, that doesn't mean much. However, just a few days ago, my friend's machine exhibited the same symptoms. Her machine is running Oneiric, and I've configured it to automatically install security updates. I don't know, however, how diligent she is about installing the other updates that can't be set to auto-install. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/800222 Title: Intermittent freeze - UI won't respond to clicks or keypresses To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/800222/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 881166] [NEW] Backlight sometimes gets disabled
Public bug reported: Since upgrading to Oneiric, I've been affected by the following regression (which didn't occur in Natty): If I leave my box unattended and it goes into power-saving mode, when I resume I won't be able to see what's on the screen very well since the backlight will be disabled. If I explicitly put the machine into power- saving mode by closing the lid or choosing the suspend option from the menu, I can resume with no problem. I initially thought that this bug was the same as the one experienced by my friend (bug 779166). But there are a number of differences between the two. Also, the workaround given in post 49 of that bug (setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00) seems to only make matters worse for me. And since the setpci man page is thoroughly incomprehensible, I don't know whether I can modify the setpci command to fix my issues. This is an HP Mini 110 (netbook), and I've only ever run the kernel versions provided by default in Ubuntu. @Doug. Thanks for the partial fix, but still, if the opacity is set to, say, 50%, the shadow still looks weird. [Bug 498933] Re: Crash when restoring data KeyError
I've only started using Deja-dup (and thus Duplicity) since I've been running Ubuntu 11.04. I'm currently running duplicity-0.6.13, and have only used an older version if such a version was once in the official Natty repositories. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/498933 Title: Crash when restoring data KeyError To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+bug/498933/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 498933] Re: Crash when restoring data KeyError
I'm also experiencing this bug. I'm backing up to RackSpace via DéjàDup. I don't know if this helps any, but I have DéjàDup configured to backup daily and keep backups for at least a month. Because my backup set is large and my machine isn't always online, full backups take considerably more than a week to complete, meaning that once a full backup completes, it's only a few days until DéjàDup decides to do another full backup. Additionally, when restoring, I only have two restore points available: 2011-07-01 and 2011-07-14 (today's date is 2011-08-11, and backups should be happening daily). Finally, the backup that ran today aborted with an error. However, unfortunately I didn't note the error, since I wasn't in bug-reporting mode. I don't know whether any of this info is helpful in diagnosing this problem. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz On an older Samsung desktop at work (running Natty), I get occasional freezes. If I start with a quote, e.g. mv 'Ftab .. that will work. There's also an additional problem with directory names. If I e.g. mkdir -p abc/def/ghi and try to move the above file, if I tab-complete the abc directory, it will end with a space instead of a slash, so I cannot complete further directories. Again, this works just fine in older releases. [Bug 240599] Re: Doesn't install GConf keys
I forgot to change the setting away from Incomplete when I posted my previous reply. [Bug 608515] Re: Can't establish audio or video calls
@Scott Lockwood: Are you using 10.10? This bug is currently marked invalid (see Omer's latest post for details). If you're experiencing this in 10.10, please re-open this bug. I personally would love to test this, but unrelated issues prevent me from upgrading to 10.10. I think I'll just have to stick with 10.04 for a while. At any rate, if this is still an issue in 10.10, it'd be good to know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608515 Title: Can't establish audio or video calls -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 608515] Re: Can't establish audio or video calls
Re-opening as this bug is reported to also exist in 10.10. ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608515 Title: Can't establish audio or video calls -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 105333] Re: The More Applications window takes far too long to come up
I'm not running Maverick, since I can't afford the downtime risk inherent in running pre-release software. However, considering that the upstream bug hasn't been touched for quite some time, it's reasonable to assume that this bug hasn't been fixed. ** Changed in: gnome-main-menu (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- The More Applications window takes far too long to come up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105333 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 240599] Re: Doesn't install GConf keys
Yes, this happens in Lucid. However, I don't agree that this is a Yelp bug. The .deb should make GConf entries where appropriate. Users shouldn't have to read help in order to take advantage of the GConf entries, especially since in every other program I know of, GConf stuff isn't document in the Yelp help. It's documented through the GConf schema. [Bug 608515] Re: Can't establish audio or video calls
@desiKn: That doesn't explain why: a) video works if I place a video call to myself (i.e., not going over the network); and b) audio calls don't work. Your link points to bug 585151, which appears to be entirely unrelated to this one. I only have a single video device (/dev/video0) and no TV card or second camera or other complicating device. -- Can't establish audio or video calls https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
