Why would anybody think that the PS/2 inputs could magically switch during an Ubuntu upgrade?? I also had a problem of my PS/2 ports becoming dead after I upgraded to 11.04. My PS/2 keyboard and mouse were useless until after the GRUB had started the Ubuntu OS. I had no control over the GRUB and so my other OS was useless. I found that switching to a USB keyboard and mouse solved the problem. It appears that the Legacy (PS/2) inputs on some model computers get over looked by the newer Ubuntu upgrades. [Bug 792664] [NEW] My keyboard drivers load after GRUB which prevents me from accessing the up/down keys on my keyboard.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub2 My keyboard drivers don't load until after GRUB as loaded and starts my Linux OS. After Linux 11.04 starts then my keyboard lights activate and the keyboard functions normally. My keyboard uses a PS/2 connection.
