[Bug 74615] Evolution will consume ~90% CPU when you switch user

2006-12-06 Thread Sean Flaherty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I noticed this thanks to Conky. Using Ubuntu Edgy. If I switch user
where the current "primary" user has opened or opened and closed
Evolution during their session, the CPU will indicate ~60% usage by
evolution-alarm and ~30% usage by evolution-data-.

This may be quiesced by logging off the "primary" user or killing the
two processes.

I'm sorry, but this comment goes straight into Clifford Stoll
 territory. I don't know
how to use this sysprof or other unnamed profiling tool in order to
determine what will make evolution stop sucking. It's a fact, on this
machine, that it will consume *nearly all of CPU* if left to itself.

I've run enough 'sudo kill' against the evolution process to seriously
consider asking the S.O. to switch to a more intelligently designed
 e-mail
client. But, it's my cross to bear as it was me that switched us to
GNU/Linux + Gnome in the first place - and the default Gnome e-mail
client (evolution) is total suck.

[Bug 141164] Re: Desktop effects could not be enabled since latest updates

2007-09-20 Thread Sean Flaherty
This is also entered in launchpad as bug #141130. There is a comment
there to see ubuntuforums .org for a change to the /usr/bin/compiz
wrapper script.

The change:
[FROM]
222c222
< TEXTURE_LIMIT=$(glxinfo -l | grep GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE | sed
's/.*=[^0-9]//g')
---
[TO]
> TEXTURE_LIMIT=$(glxinfo -l | grep GL_MAX_3D_TEXTURE_SIZE | sed
> 's/.*=[^0-9]//g')

[Bug 74615] Re: Evolution will consume ~90% CPU when you switch user

2007-02-02 Thread Sean Flaherty
>> "somebody having the problem should investigate and maybe use sysprof
or some profiling tool to figure what it's doing"
