[Bug 495880] Re: File Roller cannot handle archive that doesn't encode filenames in UTF-8

Thanks, in fact the example from that bug is already working in Noble
but file-roller is using libarchive for some of its format nowadays so
it might have been fixed by it already. I'm closing the report

[Bug 2067979] Re: Language selection is skipped for new installations

2024-06-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
According to the git log the rational for not displaying that page in
Ubuntu was that it's not compatible with our langpacks approach.

The issue is that by default we will only install one language/set of
langpacks so that screen would be 'choose your language' with one
language (and its variants) only in the list which isn't great.

I guess in case of the oem you provision the machine with more language
packs?

[Bug 2067831] Re: no funciona bien la edición de un archivo en el escritorio al renombrarlo

2024-06-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Thank you!

Is that still an issue in Ubuntu 24.04? Do you also get the problem in
newer applications like gnome-text-editor?

[Bug 2067592] [NEW] 46.2 stable update

2024-05-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

* Impact

The update is a stable GNOME update including bugfixes and translations
updates

quoting
https://mirror.accum.se/pub/GNOME/sources/nautilus/46/nautilus-46.2.news

* Bugfixes:
  - Don't treat future dates as "Today" (Grey Nicholson)
  - Fix crashes (Khalid Abu Shawarib, Gary Li, Peter Eisenmann)
  - Prevent freeze on Audio/Video properties (Peter Eisenmann)
  - Don't irreversibly hide sidebar with touch gesture (Khalid Abu Shawarib)
  - Don't expose unreadable symbol to screen reader (Automeris naranja)
  - Fix search selection performance (Gary Li)
  - Fix sorting on grid view (Gary Li)
* Translation updates (GNOME Translation Project contributors)

* Test Case

As part of the GNOME MRE the update will be tested by applying the
standard testplan

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/Nautilus

* Regression potential

We should focus on testing the features impacted by the fixes, which
includes dates, audio/video properties, sidebar and touch estures,
screen reader, search and sorting in the gridview

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)

[Bug 2067572] Re: Many settings missing from search

2024-05-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. The title isn't specific enough to really
act on it. The search is based on keywords from the corresponding
.desktop. In 22.04 typing 'screen' or 'reader' lists the accessibility
panel but indeed 'screen reader' doesn't. That's fixed in 24.04 though.
The issue is probably too minor to be fixed in 22.04, especially that
the current technical design means that a change in the keywords would
invalidate existing translations (because the list of keywords is
considered as one string and the string would be changing to add the new
value)

Thanks Nathan, I updated the changelog to target the right serie, lower
the revision comparated to the oracular upload and include the bug

still provide a debdiff next time because other reviewers/sponsors might
not want to be doing those changes themselves.

[Bug 2067373] [NEW] [MIR] provd

2024-05-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

[Availability]
- The package provd is already in Ubuntu universe.
- The package provd build for the architectures it is designed to work on.
It currently builds and works for architectures: amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el
riscv64 s390x
Link to package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/provd

[Rationale]
- The package provd is required in Ubuntu main for our new 'initial setup'
desktop experience
- Package provd covers the same use case as gnome-initial-setup and oem-config,
but is better
because it's more consistent with the rest of our provisioning flow. It also
allows us to
implement ubuntu specific functionalities like Ubuntu Pro integration without
having
to distro patch diverge an upstream project, thereby we want to replace it.
The provd package is the backend side implementation, the UI is provided by
the
  ubuntu-desktop-init snap (flutter frontend)
- We will demote gnome-initial-setup and ubiquity/oem-config as a result
- The binary package provd needs to be in main as it will provide the backend
used
but the Ubuntu Desktop initial setup GUI.

- The package provd is required in Ubuntu main no later than August 15th
(oracular feature freeze)

[Security]
- No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past (which is to be expected
since it's a new codebase made for Ubuntu which hasn't been used yet)

- it provides `/usr/libexec/sprovd` which is a `suid` binary used to do issue
'pro attach'
- no executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin`
- Package does not install services, timers or recurring jobs
- Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024).
- Package does not expose any external endpoints
- Packages does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software

[Quality assurance - function/usage]
- The package works well right after install

[Quality assurance - maintenance]
- The package is maintained well in Ubuntu as a Canonical project. It has
currently no open bug on launchpad and a few non-major ones on github. The
package is not in Debian since it's an Ubuntu specific component.
  - Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/provd/+bug
  - Upstream's bug tracker,
https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-desktop-provision/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+provd
- The package has currently no important open bugs reported
- The package does not deal with exotic hardware we cannot support

[Quality assurance - testing]
- The package runs a test suite on build time, if it fails
it makes the build fail, link to build log
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/724240568/buildlog_ubuntu-noble-amd64.provd_0.1.2_BUILDING.txt.gz

- The package runs an autopkgtest, and is currently passing on
  amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x, link to test logs
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/p/provd

- The package does have not failing autopkgtests right now

[Quality assurance - packaging]
- debian/watch is not present because it is a native package

- debian/control defines Ubuntu Developers as Maintainer

- This package does only has minor lintian warnings

[Bug 1892456] Re: [MIR] malcontent

2024-05-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Since the original MIR request malcontent got its library split in a
backend and an UI part.

gnome-control-center would Depends on libmalcontent-0-0 which doesn't
Depends on libflatpak (libmalcontent-ui-1-1 is the one which includes
that Depends).

The request then is to promote only the libmalcontent-0-0 and
gir1.2-malcontent-0 binaries. Since the initial review got a +1 from MIR
and security teams but the promoted got blocked on universe Depends
which aren't part of the request anymore can we consider the package
good to promote after subcribing desktop-packages?
