[Bug 2072976] Re: back_perl no longer loads (file not found)
** Description changed: + [ Impact ] + + OpenLDAP users who rely on the Perl backend will experience a regression + when updating to the latest OpenLDAP version (MRE'd a few days ago) due + to an upstream bug. Although back_perl is in a deprecated status, it + used to work before the upgrade and as such this is considered a + regression. + + [ Test Plan ] + + The test plan is simple. Hello Danny, Thanks for the initial investigation. Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. It doesn't seem like you're encountering a bug, but rather a configuration issue. [Bug 2070081] Re: paraview 5.12.1+dfsg-3 FTBFS on Oracular
Something else I forgot to ask/mention: does the package also FTBFS on Debian? If yes, then it's worth considering forwarding the delta to them as well. Also, I might be wrong here but I believe you don't have to manually set the compiler flags like that anymore. This used to be the case a long time ago when debhelper's cmake module couldn't handle the flags very well, but nowadays things should just work. [Bug 2070081] Re: paraview 5.12.1+dfsg-3 FTBFS on Oracular
Thanks for the patch, Zixing Liu. I'd like to ask you adjust a few things before we proceed with the upload: 1) Since you're adding a delta, you also need to run update-maintainer in order to have the Maintainer field set to Ubuntu Developers instead of the regular Debian maintainer. 2) You're also reorganizing the definitions of the compiler flags. Could you please mention this in the changelog entry? 3) While the CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE change looks sensible to me, it would be great if you could provide a PPA where the modified package builds properly. [Bug 2071848] Re: live migration fails because of missing cpu features vmx-*
** Description changed: + [ Impact ] + + libvirt users who attempt to migrate a VM to a Noble host will + experience failures due to missing CPU features, which ultimately + prevents the migration from concluding successfully. This is related to + bug #2051754. + + [ Test Plan ] + + The reporter has a setup ready to reproduce the problem. In theory, all + that is needed to trigger the error is: + + 1) Create LXD VMs. + + 2) Install libvirt inside each one, create a VM inside one, and then try + to migrate it to the other. + + There is also an extensive testsuite covering many migration scenarios + that is used whenever a new libvirt/QEMU is prepared to be uploaded. I + will be running the testsuite against the new libvirt to make sure it + passes all tests. + + [ Where problems could occur ] + + Fortunately the fix is somewhat simple and contained: it's just one + patch (that's already been accepted upstream), which changes a very + specific code path in the virCPUx86UpdateLive function (inside + src/cpu/cpu_x86.c). The problem happens in a very specific scenario + where you're trying to migrate a VM between hosts using a similar + libvirt version; in this case, the first libvirt (where the VM is + created) correctly detects that there are some CPU features missing, but + the second libvirt (where the VM will be migrated to) will fail when it + notices that those same CPU features are not present. + + Patches modifying code in this area have the possibility of messing up + some (obscure?) migration path. We hope to prevent such a regression + from happening by running our migration testsuite (as described in the + Test Plan); it has already caught failures affecting corner cases in the + past. If this proves insufficient, we can revert the changes + temporarily while working with upstream (who has been responsive about + this issue) to improve the existing solution. + + [ Original Description ] + Trying to live migrate between two libvirt daemons 24.04 hosted on fresh LXD VMs is failing virsh migrate --verbose --live demo-server-$host --copy-storage-all qemu+ssh://$other_host/system error: operation failed: guest CPU doesn't match specification: missing features: vmx-apicv-xapic,vmx-apicv-register,vmx-apicv-vid,vmx-vmfunc,vmx-posted-intr,vmx-eptp-switching Libvirt VMs were created with the following commands: virt-install -n demo-server-$host --virt-type=kvm --arch=x86_64 --machine=q35 --description "demo-server migration" --os-variant=ubuntu22.04 --ram=2048 --cpu host-model,topology.sockets=1,topology.cores=2,topology.threads=1 --vcpus=2 --graphics none --cdrom /tmp/jammy-server-cloudimg-amd64.img --network bridge:br0 lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Release: 24.04 apt-cache policy libvirt-daemon libvirt-daemon: - Installed: 10.0.0-2ubuntu8.2 + Installed: 10.0.0-2ubuntu8.2 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: libvirt-daemon 10.0.0-2ubuntu8.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-36.36-generic 6.8.4 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-36-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CloudArchitecture: x86_64 CloudBuildName: server CloudID: lxd CloudName: lxd CloudPlatform: lxd CloudSerial: 20240702 CloudSubPlatform: LXD socket API v. 1.0 (/dev/lxd/sock) Date: Wed Jul 3 18:43:50 2024 ProcEnviron: - LANG=C.UTF-8 - PATH=(custom, no user) - SHELL=/bin/bash - TERM=xterm-256color - XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + LANG=C.UTF-8 + PATH=(custom, no user) + SHELL=/bin/bash + TERM=xterm-256color + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= SourcePackage: libvirt UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2071848 Title: live migration fails because of missing cpu features vmx-* To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/2071848/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2067501] Re: Ubuntu noble is missing libaio.so.1 compat symlink
Thanks for providing additional information. Let me take a step back and see if I understood the problem. - Oracle Instance Client links against libaio.so.1 - As part of the time_t 64-bit transition on Noble, we renamed several of our libraries and appended "t64" to their names. - Debian decided to perform an SONAME bump in order to avoid some problems with upstream. Oracle Instance Client can't find the new library, and needs to be recompiled. I tend to agree with Paride here that we probably shouldn't ship a symlink in this case. Moreover, it seems to me that this is actually a bug with Oracle Instance Client: it needs to be rebuilt in order to pick up the changes that were made in Ubuntu Noble. This should solve the problem, and IMHO is a reasonable thing to expect Oracle to do given that Ubuntu Noble is an entirely new release of Ubuntu. I am going to set this bug's status as Triaged, but will mark it as low priority since it's something affecting third-party software. [Bug 2069039] Re: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor
I probably can do, but as I said, I think that this configuration is more and more common thanks to USB-C (you can just connect one cable and have a desktop system). But, of course, without objective data about real usage, all we have are just opinions, so I agree in that it's better to close this and wait to see if more people reports this as a problem. In my case, it's fixed with that trick. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069039 Title: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/2069039/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2069039] Re: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor
I have to disagree. I attach a picture of my workbench, where you can see that I have an external monitor as the main display, and the laptop is just behind because I don't use its screen. As you can see, I have to, literally, look over the monitor to be able to know when do I have to type the password and to know if I typed it right, because the external display won't turn on until after it has been typed. This kind of configuration is becoming more and more common thanks to USB-C: use the laptop in a "classic desktop mode" at home, just disabling the builtin screen, and keeping it only for the cases where the laptop is used outside home, so I'm sure that we will begin to receive more and more complains about this as more and more people migrate to 24.04. ** Attachment added: "My current setup, where I can't see in my screen the password prompt, having to bend over to be able to see the prompt." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/2069039/+attachment/5789039/+files/PXL_20240613_084850900.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2069039 Title: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/2069039/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. From DpkgTerminalLog.txt, it is indeed clear that the problem happens when the postinst script attempts to kill mysqld. My initial suspicion was that apparmor could be involved (since we're seeing a kill being denied even when it's executed by root), so I checked your dmesg log and: [ 1455.760969] audit: type=1400 audit(1718130651.639:278): apparmor="DENIED" operation="signal" class="signal" profile="/usr/sbin/mysqld" pid=31903 comm="mysql-server-8." requested_mask="receive" denied_mask="receive" signal=term peer="vscode" I don't understand how you were able to kill the process afterwards, though. Maybe there's a setup time when apparmor won't allow the process to receive a kill signal, and the postinst script was unlucky to be executed during this time frame? Are you able to reproduce the issue if you reinstall mysql? I couldn't reproduce the problem here, so I'm afraid we will need more details about your setup. [Bug 2069039] Re: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor
When I say "needed", I mean to add only the specific module for the current hardware. This is: in my system, only the amdgpu would be added, not the intel or the nVidia ones. [Bug 2069039] Re: Disk password prompt isn't shown in external monitor
I can confirm that, in my case, adding "amdgpu" to the initramfs does the trick. So now here comes the idea... What if we dynamically add to the initramfs the graphics driver needed for the current system only if the hard disk is encrypted? [Bug 2068882] [NEW] Desktop icons in Mantic doesn't honor dock margins in Jammy
Public bug reported: [Impact] Gnome Shell 46 changed the Enum that defines the status of an extension, and that affected Desktop Icons by preventing Ubuntu Dock to send info about the occupied zone, thus allowing to put icons under it. It has been fixed in upstream. This same patch must be added to any other extension that communicates this info to DING, like Dash-to-panel, Hide-top-bar... [Test plan] Go to the extensions properties of Dash-to-dock or Ubuntu-dock and ensure that the "IntelliHide" option (which hides the dock when a window is below it, and shows it again when there's only "empty desktop" below it) is ENABLED, the option "panel mode: extend up to the screen borders" is DISABLED, and the "maximum size of the dock" is BELOW 100% (90% is fine). In an empty desktop (this is, without any window) the dock should be visible, with some free space in each side (top and bottom if the dock is vertical; left and right if it is horizontal) where the underlying desktop can be seen. Now, open any window and maximize it; the dock should hide, thus allowing the window to fill the whole screen. Close the window. The dock should appear again. Try to move a desktop icon (any icon; a folder, a file, the trash, the personal folder... any is right) into the free zone of any of the sides. If the patch works, it should NOT be possible to place the icon there; if the bug is present, then it will be possible to place the icon there. It must be also test if it is possible to put an icon in any place of the "free" desktop surface (this is: any zone that won't be obscured by a bar, dock or panel). [Where problems could occur] If there are problems, they can show in several ways: - the bugfix doesn't work, and thus it will still be possible to put icons in zones that should be forbidden - the bugfix is wrong, and the dock might fail. ** Affects: gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Patch added: "Patch from upstream that fixes this." https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2068882/+attachment/5787856/+files/patch.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2068882 Title: Desktop icons in Mantic doesn't honor dock margins in Jammy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng/+bug/2068882/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2050865] Re: GNOME Wayland session crashes with libmutter:ERROR:../src/core/window.c:...:meta_window_get_work_area_for_logical_monitor: assertion failed: (logical_monitor)
Hey Daniel, I stopped having the crashes when I self-built debs for 46.0-1ubuntu9 + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/3691 patch, and I've later used the debs you linked. However, I have Ubuntu's tiling extension disabled (had crashes with 46.0-1ubuntu9 even with it disabled) because I use gTile and Ubuntu's extension does weird things, like the preview rectangles not disappearing after moving a window. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2050865 Title: GNOME Wayland session crashes with libmutter:ERROR:../src/core/window.c:...:meta_window_get_work_area_for_logical_monitor: assertion failed: (logical_monitor) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell-extension-tiling-assistant/+bug/2050865/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. From DpkgTerminalLog.txt: unable to create '/etc/ldap/ldap.conf.dpkg-new' (while processing './etc/ldap/ldap.conf'): Read-only file system This indicates that there is another issue at play here. The root filesystem seems to be read-only, and dpkg can't properly install the package and its associated files. Could you provide more details regarding your setup, please? Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'. However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New". [Bug 2065579] Re: [UBUNTU 22.04] OS guest boot issues on 9p filesystem
FWIW, I built QEMU with a proposed fix here: https://launchpad.net/~sergiodj/+archive/ubuntu/qemu-9pfs-fix It passes the testcase provided in the bug description. I'd still like to hear Marc's opinion here as the Security team person, but at least we have a possible fix. [Bug 2065579] Re: [UBUNTU 22.04] OS guest boot issues on 9p filesystem
Hi, I took some time today to take a closer look into this issue. I wanted to determine whether this was coming from something that we did, or some upstream change. Here are my findings: 1) This is not architecture-specific. I can reproduce the problem (thanks for the script, btw!) on s390x and amd64. This was somewhat expected because we're talking about an issue affecting a filesystem here, but it's good to be able to confirm. 2) This issue was *not* happening 6.2+dfsg-2ubuntu6.15, and started happening afterwards. This confirms that this is indeed a regression introduced by the upload of 6.2+dfsg-2ubuntu6.16 (which was a security upload). 3) Ultimately, this is a security regression and will need to be handled by our Security team. I will get in touch with them. Unfortunately, although this is a regression that comes from upstream, I don't see much interest from their part in fixing problems with 9pfs. I will leave a comment in the upstream bug report to see if it generates any movement. Thanks. ** Tags added: regression-update -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065579 Title: [UBUNTU 22.04] OS guest boot issues on 9p filesystem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/2065579/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
