2020-05-08 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Ok, copying my workarounds here and closing the other report:

Volume Group metadata had to be upgraded manually with

vgck --updatemetadata yourvgname

The VG name was somehow changed from lvm-name to just name and I had to
edit /etc/crypttab and update-initramfs -u -k all

Also cryptsetup-initramfs package was deleted for some reason, had to
re-install it in chroot. Maybe it happened because I have disabled
installing recommended and suggested packages or maybe because none of
*buntu-desktop packages are installed on my system. Not sure if I have
to report it as a separate problem, please advise.

2020-05-07 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Public bug reported:

Volume Group metadata had to be upgraded manually with

vgck --updatemetadata yourvgname

The VG name was somehow changed from lvm-name to just name and I had to
edit /etc/crypttab and update-initramfs -u -k all

Also cryptsetup-initramfs package was deleted for some reason, had to
re-install it in chroot. Maybe it happened because I have disabled
installing recommended and suggested packages or maybe because none of
*buntu-desktop packages are installed on my system. Not sure if I have
to report it as a separate problem, please advise.

look like a libinput problem.

[Bug 1876991] [NEW] Touchpad started appearing both as a touchpad and as a mouse input devices after upgrade to 20.04

2020-05-05 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Public bug reported:

It was working perfectly on 18.04 with 5.3 kernel but after upgrade to
20.04 it's becoming disabled because there is a "mouse" attached which
is the same touchpad detected incorrectly, xinput --list showing both

⎜   ↳ MSFT0001:00 06CB:7E7E Mouse   id=11   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ MSFT0001:00 06CB:7E7E Touchpadid=12   [slave  pointer  (2)]

The first line was definitely not present before, I know it because I
use it when in openbox session.

There is also a number of questions on AskUbuntu that look like results of the
same problem at first glance:
https://askubuntu.com/q/1231873/20275
https://askubuntu.com/q/1235067/20275
https://askubuntu.com/q/1234975/20275

and two global search results for the same touchpad model ("MSFT0001:00
06CB:7E7E Mouse") that show the same problem in unrelated contexts:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=953405
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=240723

I also have these errors in kernel log, may be related, weren't present
previously:
psmouse serio1: Failed to deactivate mouse on isa0060/serio1: -5
psmouse serio1: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio1
psmouse serio1: Failed to disable mouse on isa0060/serio1

Odd thing is that /dev/dri/card numbers are switched between two kernels for

[Bug 1845924] [NEW] Cannot have multiple X sessions simultaneously on 5.0 kernel

2019-09-30 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Public bug reported:

The only thing that affects if creating a second X session will succeed
on this 18.04 installation is the kernel version that's loaded. On 4.15
everything works perfectly but on 5.0 second X session fails to start
and brings down existing session with it because of systemd rules for
SDDM.

Adding relevant Xorg.log files and journal output for systemd and sddm
with cleaned timestamps for ease of comparison.

[Bug 1736176]

2019-09-23 Thread Serhiy Kuznyetsov
Please, make this option configurable, because as for now after so many
years i can't use LibreOffice :(

I have HP ZBook laptop and on Windows 10 I can not turn on ScrollLock.
After research I managed to turn on ScrollLock using onscreen keyboard,
and now I can move cell selection by arrow keys only up and down, but
left and right arrows move a sheet itself, instead of cell selection.
That's very pity and make the navigation to be very hard, I can't work
in LO like this, sorry.

LO 6.3.1.2 (64 bit), Windows 10 Pro, HP ZBook 15.

[Bug 1816296] [NEW] Unable to connect to dbus: Could not connect: Permission denied

2019-02-17 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Public bug reported:

Two of these warnings appear every time I'm launching Firefox. If I
remove `libappmenu-gtk*` they change to a warning that appmenu module

I do not see any other D-Bus problems anywhere else. dbus-monitor

[Bug 1808133] [NEW] python3-apport emits a deprecation warning

2018-12-12 Thread Serhiy Storchaka
Public bug reported:

python3-apport uses the deprecated module imp. This causes to emitting a
deprecation warning when run python3 with the -Walways option, and even
to changing a traceback when run python3 with the -Werror option.

Example:

```
$ python3 -Walways -c '1/0'
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/report.py:13: DeprecationWarning: the imp
module is deprecated in favour of importlib; see the module's documentation for
alternative uses
```
```
$ python3 -Werror -c '1/0'
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
ZeroDivisionError: division by zero
Error in sys.excepthook:
the module's documentation for alternative uses
Original exception was:
The -Werror option can be used for catching possible issues, and
additional output from apport spoils the result.
```

The solution is to silence DeprecationWarning for `import imp`:

import warnings
with warnings.catch_warnings():
warnings.simplefilter('ignore', DeprecationWarning)
import imp

[Bug 1801103] Re: Kubuntu driver manager fails to install nvidia-prime on hybrid systems and that makes system unusable for unexperienced users

2018-11-01 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
It's not needed for everyone, just for laptops with hybrid nvidia
graphics. With current behavior some perfectly reasonable user actions
render system unusable without CLI knowledge. IMO it's exactly driver
managers' problem and it should not just install a package but make sure
drivers are correctly installed for this system.

[Bug 1773113] Re: nvidia-390 does not show GUI

2018-09-05 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
I've managed to get it working, the last thing I did was creating this
file

$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/zz-nvidia.conf
options nvidia_390_drm modeset=1
options nvidia_drm modeset=1

But I'm not sure this is the only thing required. AFAIU, only one of
these lines is correct but it works with both of them present and I'm
really tired of restarting everything to figure out which one.

[Bug 1736717] [NEW] python3-cliff shouldn't depend on python3-unicodecsv

2017-12-06 Thread Serhiy Storchaka
Public bug reported:

Currently python3-unicodecsv is a dependence of python3-cliff. But
actually it is used only with Python 2. With Python 3 the standard csv
module is used instead of unicodecsv.

python2-unicodecsv should be kept a dependence of python2-cliff, but
python3-cliff shouldn't depend on python3-unicodecsv. And after that
python3-unicodecsv could be removed at all.

[Bug 1684240] Re: Lagging square around mouse pointer

2017-11-23 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
I have this problem only if there are two user accounts running, only on
the second one and only after

# prime-select nvidia

16.04, -hwe kernel and xserver, SDDM and KDE from the backports PPA. I
don't want to disable OpenGL just for NVidia. Maybe later I'll write a
script for switching rendering backend automatically with `prime-select
query` and `kwriteconfig`

[Bug 1722576] [NEW] Typo in the description of xdg-desktop-portal-kde

2017-10-10 Thread Serhiy Storchaka
Public bug reported:

xdg-desktop-portal-gtk is mentioned in the description of xdg-desktop-
portal-kde:

   xdg-desktop-portal-gtk provides a Qt implementation for the desktop-
agnostic xdg-desktop-portal service. This allows sandboxed applications
to request services from outside the sandbox using KDE GUIs (app
chooser, file chooser, print dialog) or using KDE services (session
manager, screenshot provider).

Should it be xdg-desktop-portal-kde?

[Bug 1722397] [NEW] idle doesn't run in 17.10

2017-10-09 Thread Serhiy Storchaka
Public bug reported:

In 17.10 the idle package (v. 3.6.3-0ubuntu1) depends on Python 3.6. But
the /usr/bin/idle script contains the code that doesn't work in Python
3.6.

$ idle
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/idle", line 3, in
from idlelib.PyShell import main
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'idlelib.PyShell'

In Python 3.6 the PyShell module was renamed to pyshell (see
https://bugs.python.org/issue24225).

/usr/bin/idle-python3.6 from the idle-python3.6 package works correctly.

Maybe make /usr/bin/idle just a link to /usr/bin/idle-python3.6?

If you want /usr/bin/idle always run the default python3 and don't
depent of future changes in the idlelib Python package, you can make it
a shell script:

#! /bin/sh
exec /usr/bin/python3 -m idlelib

I've found a clue. It's a server with limited bandwidth and it's

It's still an issue because there is some network failure that is not

[Bug 1383470] Re: scp does not work (fails at 'Sending command scp -v -t')

2017-05-15 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
Disabling MOTD and PrintLastLog has no effect (obviously). Found a
suggestion about disabling all messages during login, decided to try
even that.

Tried using strace on the server that has this version:

$ while true; do pid=`pidof scp` && sudo strace -p `pidof scp`; sleep 1; done
Process 7653 attached
read(0,

And that's all, it doesn't output anything more.

[Bug 1615549] Re: Don't restrict jump list actions to Unity

2017-03-29 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
According to
$ desktop-file-validate /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop
OnlyShowIn was deprecated completely. Also it shows a lot of other errors in
the file.
