[Bug 949171] Re: [Precise] scrolling with mouse wheel doesn't work

2012-05-05 Thread Shekhar Sherikar
Just Upgraded to 12.04 LTS from 11.10.
Setup: Using Oracle VirtualBox 4.1.14 r77440 ovr Windows 7 Ultimate.

Scrolling using Mouse Wheel has stopped working altogather.
It does not work in any application at all (tried with Dashboard, Firefox,
Nautilus File Manager).
Booted back from 11.10 Live CD and Mouse Wheel Scrolling works fine.
Mouse Wheel Scrolling works fine in host OS as well.

[Bug 579866] [NEW] 10.04 Install formatted ext3 partition (data lost)

2010-05-13 Thread Shekhar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I have installed 10.04 yesterday. My system already had running 9.10
with following partitions.

 / (ext4)
 /home (ext3)

While installing I chose to format / and not to format /home but chosen
wrong partition type for /home i.e. ext4. Install was smooth but I
realized that installer actually had formatted (or converted ?) my ext3
/home to ext4 /home wiping out all the data. I think even if I have
specified ext4 by mistake, why should installer format my partition when
I have specifically not asked for it. At the most it should try to mount
it as ext4 and the bell out.

I don't know what would you do in order to fix this but it would be
great help if there is a way to undo this. This has hit more people I
guess, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8195037&postcount=1 .
Also I am following good https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery
.

Thanks for all the good work guys but this particularly is very scary.

Good news. Jaunty installs and works well.
Wifi somehow stopped working after running fine for sometime. I didn't yet get
time to find more details.

[Bug 275159] Re: Acer 4530 Laptop: Install problem

2008-09-30 Thread Shekhar
I tried Alternate install of Intrepid alpha6 AMD 64. Install was smooth.
Laptop booted fine.It was low resolution display but I guess later installing
restricted driver for NDIVIA should fix.
So problem is now reduced only for live+install CDs.

[Bug 275159] Re: Acer 4530 Laptop: Install problem

2008-09-29 Thread Shekhar
I have tried different versions/flavors to install. While results are different
one thing is common that *you can not install from a live CD.*
I will try to give you more detailed reports. Below is the story of one of the
attempts:

Ubuntu 8.04.1 AMD 64 Desktop (Alternate install):

1. Install is smooth.
2. OS doesn't boot. "caps" indicator keeps blinking.
2. Now I boot the machine with kernel options splash and quiet removed, I see
kernel panic with following messages in the end
RIP [8036ddb0] vgacon_cursor+0x10/0x1f0
RSP
CR2 004c
end trace 2ce005c0852e264f
Kernel panic - not syncing: Aiee, killing interrupt handler

Next I would try intrepid alpha 6 (32 bit) alternate install

Thanks as always
