Hi Alex, I still had to run around to get this fixed in karmic. It is fixed for now but don't know whether it will remain the same on next boot or not. I had to do the following. Right-click on Network Manager Edit Connections In Auto eth1 in IPv4 Settings Change Method to Automatic (DHCP) addresses only in DNS servers change from blank to 208.67.222.222 in Search domains change to opendns.com I want to add another DNS server IP Address, how can I do that ? [Bug 327206] [NEW] sync/merge e2fsprogs 1.41.4 from upstream
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: e2fsprogs e2fsprogs has released a new update. >From http://e2fsprogs.sourceforge.net/e2fsprogs-release.html#1.41.4 E2fsprogs 1.41.4 (January 27, 2009) Fixed a bug which could sometimes cause blkid to return an exit value of zero for a non-existent device (Addresses Debian Bug: #502541) Blkid will now recognize ext3 filesystems that have the test_fs flag set as ext3 filesystems. The blkid library will now recognize btrfs filesystems and swap devices currently used by user-level software suspend. Tune2fs now updates the block group checksums when changing the UUID to avoid causing e2fsck to complain vociferously at the next reboot. Tune2fs's inode size resizing algorithms have been fixed so it is not vastly inefficient for moderate-to-large filesystems, due to some O(n**2) and O(n*m) algorithms that didn't scale well at all. Fix tune2fs's inode resizing algorithm so it will not corrupt filesystems laid out for RAID filesystems; in addition, tune2fs will refuse to change the inode size for filesystems that have the flex_bg feature enabled. (This is a limitation in the current implementation of tune2fs -I.) E2fsprogs 1.41 broke debugfs's logdump command for normal ext3/4 filesystems with 32-bit block numbers, when the headers for 64-bit block numbers was added. This regression has been fixed. Debugfs's ncheck command has been fixed to avoid printing garbage characters at the end of file names. Fix resize2fs for ext4 filesystems. Some blocks that that need moving when shrinking filesystems with uninit_bg feature would not be moved. In addition, blocks and inode table blocks were not being correctly freed when shrinking filesystems with the flex_bg feable, which caused resize2fs -M to fail. Finally, when blocks are moved, make sure the uninitialized flag in extents is preserved. Fix bug which caused dumpe2fs to abort with an error if run on a filesystem that contained an external journal. Some distributions used "mke3fs" as an alias for "mkfs.ext3"; check for this in argv[0] to provide better legacy support for these distributions. This is a practice that should NOT be continued, however. Mke2fs now has a new option -U, which allows the user to specify the UUID that should be used for the new filesystem. Mke2fs will treat devices that are exactly 16TB as if they were 16TB minus one block. This allows users who have read that ext3 supports up to 16TB filesystems and who create a 16TB LVM to not get confused, since the true limit is really 16TB minus one block. E2fsck will no longer abort an fsck run if block group has an errant INODE_UNINIT flag. E2fsck now distinguishes between fragmented directories and fragmented files in verbose mode statistics and in the fragcheck report. Fix a bug in e2fsck which casued it double count non-contiguous extent- based inodes. E2fsck will leave some slack space when repacking directories to allow room for a few directory entries to be added without causing leaf nodes to be split right away. Fix a bug which caused e2fsck to crash when it comes across a corrupted interior node in an extent tree with the error message: "Error1: Corrupt extent header on inode XX" E2fsck problem descriptions involving the journal are no longer referred to as "ext3" problems, since ext4 filesystems also have journals. Fix a long-standing bug in e2fsck which would cause it to crash when replying journals for filesystems with block sizes greater than 8k. Update Catalan translation from the Translation Project. Fixed various Debian packaging issues --- see debian/changelog for details. (Addresses Debian Bugs: #503057, #502323, #511207) ** Affects: e2fsprogs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- sync/merge e2fsprogs 1.41.4 from upstream https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327206 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 307170] Re: giplet hangs from time to time
Hi all, First of all, I am using 0.1.1 (as per changelog.gz) or 0.1.2-0ubuntu2 which was in gutsy. Salvatore (if you or whoever is the maintainer) what I would request or/and suggest is that put the version as a PPA if possible and get it built for Intrepid. Secondly, it gets deleted from the panel if the resource (in this case getmyip.org is not up) . The only way to get it back working is to remove .giplet/ and then add the panel again to gnome-panel. Also moving from getmyip.org to whatismyip.org also makes it hanged. There is actually also a need for a good error message in case the URL is down (but that's another bug) -- Regards, Shirish Agarwal My quotes in this email licensed under CC 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ http://flossexperiences.wordpress.com 065C 6D79 A68C E7EA 52B3 8D70 950D 53FB 729A 8B17 -- giplet hangs from time to time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/307170 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 319379] [NEW] sync/merge smplayer to new upstream release 0.6.6
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: smplayer Hi all, Upstream released 0.6.6 . Please sync/merge the same. This is the changelog from http://smplayer.berlios.de/ Version 0.6.6. Most important changes since 0.6.5: * Added an option to generate a preview (thumbnails) of the video. * Added a new gui (mpcgui, a media player classic clone) developed by Matthias Petri. * Added some auto zoom options, to display the video without black borders. * Implemented a new (and optional) method to save the file settings. This method uses an ini file per each played file. It's faster than the old one. * Added a new option in Preferences->Video: add black borders on fullscreen. If this option is enabled, black borders will be added to the image in fullscreen mode. This allows subtitles to be displayed on the black borders. * Increased the resolution of the seekbar. Allows a more accurate seeking. * Added 3 modes for the stay on top option: always, never and while playing. * Added a history to the open URL dialog. * Added new action to cycle through all aspect ratios. Assigned by default to key "A". * It's possible to run some specified actions every time a file is loaded. * Possibility to set up a proxy for internet connections (used for subtitle downloading). Version 0.6.5. Most important changes since 0.6.4: * The subtitles when using the SSA/ASS library can now be further customized. It's possible to select the font, size, colors, bold, italic, outline, shadow... * (Linux) Now smplayer tries to follow the XDG Base Directory Specification for the config files. That means the now the configuration files will be saved under the directory $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/smplayer (or $HOME/.config/smplayer if $XDG_CONFIG_HOME is not defined). If you want to keep your preferences, copy or move the files from $HOME/.smplayer to the new location. * Added some options in Preferences->Interface to configure the floating control. * The commandline option -ini-path has been removed and replaced with -config-path, which specifies the directory where smplayer will store its data (not only smplayer.ini). * Added the possibility to select the adaptor for xv. Requires at least MPlayer SVN r26762. Version 0.6.4. Most important changes since 0.6.3: * Now the dialog to find subtitles can also download the subtitle file and load it in smplayer automatically. * (Linux) The black screen problem when using Compiz should really be fixed now. * Added support for encoding autodetection for subtitle files. Requires a mplayer compiled with enca support. * (Linux) Now it's possible to choose the audio device to be used with alsa (needs the application "aplay"). * (Windows) Now it's possible to choose the audio device to be used with dsound. * (Windows) The menu Video->Screen displays now the actual available screens with their names. * Added the possibility to add consecutive files (video_01.avi, video_02.avi..) automatically to the playlist. * Bugfix: logout is not cancelled by smplayer. * Now the options in preferences display a tooltip with a help message. * Now it's possible to change the video track. * Added the Galician translation. Version 0.6.3. Most important changes since 0.6.2: * Two fixes for Windows Vista. Now IPv4 is used by default (connection to networks are faster). And now it really uses "gl:yuv=2:force-pbo:ati-hack" as the default video output driver. Note: this mode could give problems with some graphic cards (specially ATI), if you experience any, try the other gl variants, or just directx. * (Linux) Added a fix for a black screen problem when using Compiz. * Added an option to select the number of threads that mplayer will use for decoding (only works for MPEG-1/2 and some H.264 videos). * Added the possibility to disable the audio equalizer. Seems to be necessary to use the S/PDIF output. * Added some options to increase/decrease the speed by 1% and 4%. This allows to play 24 fps movies at 25 fps speed and vice versa. * Fix: sometimes the playlist is not shown. Added a workaround for the problem. * Added some checks to avoid crashes when selecting subtitle tracks. * (Windows) Added a new submenu Video->Screen to select the screen which will display the video when using directx. * The settings in smplayer.ini have been reorganized in several sections. (This also means most of your preferences will be lost and you will have to reconfigure smplayer again). * Added an option to mirror the video. And now it's also possible to flip and rotate the subtitles along with the image. * Added a new shortcut set (sda.keys) which can be loaded in the shortcut editor in preferences. * Added two new translations: Arabic and Kurdish. Version 0.6.2. Most important changes since 0.6.1: * Added an audio equalizer (please read Audio_equalizer.txt
[Bug 311664] Re: update ttf-freefont to new upstream version 20090104
** Summary changed: - update ttf-freefont to new upstream version 20081226 + update ttf-freefont to new upstream version 20090104 ** Description changed: Binary package hint: ttf-freefont GNU ttf-freefont released a new package. - From https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=5588 + From https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=5601 + + There are three main changes. + + 1) The Glagolitic range has been removed, due to an unfortunate mistake (mea culpa!) regarding licensing of the font on which the range is based. + Efforts to contact the original author were made but no reply was actually received. We are trying again, but until proper permission is given, these glyphs will remain excluded. + + 2) The old bug regarding excessive line spacing in Mono was + inadvertently re-introduced in the last release. It has been fixed + again, and the test scripts now contain tests for the problem. + + 3) Daniel Johnson has provided a bold version of his Cherokee range. + Oblique faces have also been filled in. + + Also, the license has been upgraded to GPL v3 + + Thanks! Big technical improvement = * FreeFont is now kerned! Ranges added * Cherokee [donated by Daniel Johnson] [These by George Douros] * Gothic * Phoenician * Byzantine Musical Symbols * Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols (partly--see below) * Mah Jong Tiles * Dominoes (partly) * Glagolitic [by Darko Žubrinić] * Coptic [donated by Steve White] Ranges adjusted === * Malayalam (Replaced with updated Rachana_04 font) * Cyrillic (Extended-B, Cyrillic Supplement) * Vietnamese (Added mark lookups) * Thai (Filled out bold, italic styles, improved mark lookups, kerned) * Greek (Re-designed Upsilon, much fiddling with accents) * Hebrew (Added pointed letters) * Armenian (Added ligatures) * Hanunóo (Added mark lookups) Ranges filled out = Latin Extended Additional Miscellaneous Symbols Combining Diacritical Marks Currency Symbols Spacing Modifier Letters Superscripts and Subscripts International Phonetic Alphabet Phonetic Extensions General Punctuation Letterlike Symbols Enclosed Alphanumerics added APL characters (but why?) Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols = The suitability of this whole range is of arguable, On the other hand it is in the standard, and other characters in Unicode (e.g. in Letterlike Symbols) refer to it, and I'm personally pushing for completion of math ranges. And George Douros has collected the glyphs, so in they go. I replaced most of George's glyphs with copies of those in other ranges of FreeFont, and some with Young Ryu's TXFonts. His calligraphic, script and blackboard bold, and his character naming scheme, remain. More languages supported I find Daniel's Cherokee to be the best I've seen, and I've downloaded most of the freely-available ones. The extensions to Cyrillic should provide support for many living languages, including: Russian, Ukrainian, Macedonian, Serbian, Belarusian, Rusyn, Bulgarian, Altay, Abkhasian, Azerbaijani, Bashkir, Chuvash, Kazakh, Tatar, Uzbek, Yakut, Tajik, Kildin Sami, Mari, Khanty, Nenets, Mordvin, Komi, Enets, Moldavian, Chukchi, Itelmen, Aleut, Yupik There is a movement on to revive Coptic, so we'll call it live. I think the Thai range wasn't really functional before the mark lookups were added. It has now been declared quite good by a native reader. Kerning === Finally realized why kerning didn't work in Linux, and wasn't recognized in Windows. Fixed. But I never liked the kerning tables that came with Nimbus. I think they were automatically generated, but often didn't make sense technically (a kern of 1EM out of 1000 is invisible) or visually (many letters under-kerned, many badly over-kerned). So I made my own kerning tables for Latin and basic Cyrillic. It is likely that I made mistakes, or that I've generally over-done it. (As always, comments are welcome!) The kerning in Latin is elaborate--maybe too elaborate. It was done with consideration at three different levels: * repairs: letters so widely spaced that words appear broken * evenness: even-looking white space between letters * flow: letter spacing in printed text somehow flows in bulk. This is rather more subtle than what some automatic area-averaging might give (and harder to explain). Basically, I printed out a bunch of text in various languages, and eyeballed it--a lot. Latin tables were intended to provide kerning for all European languages, and Turkish. Besides English, I printed out pages of text in French, Spanish, and German and specifically kerned for pairs in these l
