[Bug 483287] [NEW] volume reset after suspend/resume

2009-11-15 Thread Shoofy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

I'm using a Dell Mini 9. Ever since upgrading to Karmic after suspending
and resuming the volume goes back to some default setting and not to
what I had it at before. This is problematic, since I use my netbook to
take notes in class and I would like to just leave the volume muted all
the time to prevent random beeps and sounds that applications choose to
emit from disrupting the class, but now unless I remember to mute it
every time I resume bad things could happen.

[Bug 331369] Re: regression vs. notification-daemon: positioning when multiple screens are available

2009-04-19 Thread Shoofy
Isn't there a way to make sure that the notification isn't appearing
outside the visible area of the screen? When I maximize a window on my
monitor with the smaller vertical resolution the windows don't go out of
the visible area, so something must be aware of the true monitor size.
Why can't notify-osd display top-right of the true monitor size?

I'm currently testing with the Intrepid beta, and using the open source

[Bug 217571] Re: xsane only scans as root

2008-05-23 Thread Shoofy
Actually Brother has now posted specific instructions for Ubuntu 8.04 on
their website
(http://solutions.brother.com/linux/sol/printer/linux/linux_faq.html#9):

1. Open /etc/udev/rules.d/40-basic-permissions.rules file.
2. Edit 0664 to 0666 in USB devices section.

Before the edit --
# USB devices (usbfs replacement)
SUBSYSTEM==usb, ENV{DEVTYPE}==usb_device, MODE=0664
SUBSYSTEM==usb_device, MODE=0664

After the edit --
# USB devices (usbfs replacement)
SUBSYSTEM==usb, ENV{DEVTYPE}==usb_device, MODE=0666
SUBSYSTEM==usb_device, MODE=0666

3. Restart the system.

I can't test it, but I'm assuming they have.

[Bug 178935] Re: screen stays off when opening laptop lid with screensaver on

2008-04-02 Thread Shoofy
I installed Hardy on the same laptop. At first the problem wasn't here,
but it now seems to have come back. I am using the Ubuntu fglrx package.
The problem also exists in the EnvyNG generated packages.

Is there any kind of system log that I should be looking at that might
clue me in to what's going wrong and why it seems like nobody else is
seeing this problem?

I just tried to install my scanner (Brother DCP-130C) using the brscan2

giving me the error it gave on previous Ubuntu versions before updating

So it seems that whatever changes were made that made this file obsolete

[Bug 121653] Re: [gutsy] fglrx breaks over suspend/resume

2008-02-25 Thread Shoofy
I also installed the Hardy kernel on Gutsy, but on a Dell E1505 with an
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 and I still can't suspend or hibernate
successfully with fglrx 8.02.

As an added bonus, it seems that if I close the laptop lid with gnome-
screensaver running and fglrx installed, the Xserver crashes and the
screen doesn't turn back on, so I have to do a hard reboot. Without
fglrx (or with version 7.11 or earlier) this doesn't happen.

Given that, I'd say calling this fixed is a little generous.

[Bug 178935] screen stays off when opening laptop lid with screensaver on

2007-12-27 Thread Shoofy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Using the ATI Catalyst 7.12 drivers for my Mobility Radeon X1400 on a
Dell Inspiron E1505, if I close the laptop lid with the screensaver on,
or if the screensaver goes on when the lid is closed, when I open the
lid, the screen doesn't go on. It does not respond to mouse movement or
key presses. I need to do a hard reboot in order to get it back. I
assume I could ssh in and revive it, but I haven't tried.

I suspect that this is more a problem with the ATI drivers, since this
bug did not occur with the 7.11 drivers, but ATI doesn't have a way to
report it, so I figured I'd post it here.

[Bug 150940] Re: Print range does not default back to all for each seperate document resulting in blank pages being printed

2007-12-13 Thread Shoofy
It certainly makes more sense than storing them globally, but making the
print setting persistent per document seems to me to be a change that
should be made globally across all relevant Gnome apps or not at all. It
doesn't make any more sense in evince than it does in OpenOffice.org or
any other app that prints documents, so for the sake of user comfort I
think adding this feature just to Evince would be confusing.

[Bug 150940] Re: Print range does not default back to all for each seperate document resulting in blank pages being printed

2007-12-10 Thread Shoofy
I don't think this is fixed, unless there is a new version that hasn't
come through the update channels yet. If this is the case, please let me
know how to get the fixed version.

There's no reason why if I choose to print pages 34-52 of one document
that it should be assumed that I want to print the same range of a
completely new document. What ends up happening is the next time I try
to print an entire document but don't notice that my previous range was
saved and only that range prints out, so I have to go back in and set a
new range of all the pages that didn't print the first time. It ends up
going like this forever until I learn to check each time. It would be
one thing if this were a systemwide standard that the settings are
preserved, but the fact is that it isn't.

2007-10-10 Thread Shoofy
I'm seeing the same problems with an Inspiron E1505. Suspend just stops
either with the screen turned off or with a blank screen and a blinking
cursor. A hard reboot is required in either case. Suspend worked
reasonably reliably on Feisty on this machine. I seem to remember
getting a successful suspend on Gutsy before installing fglrx and xgl
(both the repo versions). I'm not really in the mood to uninstall those
now that I have compiz fusion and awn working nicely for me.

[Bug 121439] Re: [Gutsy]Network Manager Applet can't connect wireless with ipw3945 driver

2007-08-07 Thread Shoofy
Any chance the fix for this will make it back into Feisty? Or does the
fact that I'm seeing the same problem in Feisty since a few weeks ago
mean that something else is wrong?

[Bug 106463] Re: gnome-main-menu won't load for gnome-2.18.1

2007-04-14 Thread Shoofy
I'm seeing the same thing. I'm wondering if it's a result of whatever
changes were made in network-manager that caused problems last week,
since I saw this first start happening immediately after that update and
I think gnome-main-menu uses network-manager to check network status.

** Changed in: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: None = gnome-applets

[Bug 105440] Re: lastest update to control center breaks slab (main menu)

2007-04-14 Thread Shoofy
I'm wondering if this is related to the network-manager updates last
week. I first started seeing this problem after that update and I think
slab uses network-manager to monitor the network status.

[Bug 106063] Re: Computer will not boot after dist-upgrade

2007-04-12 Thread Shoofy
I also could not boot after tonights new kernel image. It seems to be a
problem that affects SATA drives. A temporary solution has been to
replace /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic with
/boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic.bak, which essentially undoes the
update.

THere is a forum thread about this at
