[Bug 120315] Re: psi 0.11RC2

Never mind the current REVU package; it's a mess.

Bundled QCA2 is not the way to go; this bug depends on
syncing/merging/packaging QCA2 separately. See bug #128505.

[Bug 128505] Re: Please sync qca 2.0.0~beta7 from Debian experimental (+more tasks)

2007-07-26 Thread Sikon
Debdiff #3 fixes mailody to link against -lqca-qt3 instead of -lqca.

Important: even though it's -2ubuntu2, the original Debian package
(which is the current Debian version) is -1. The previous uploader
erroneously followed -1 with -2ubuntu1.

** Attachment added: mailody_0.5.0-2ubuntu2.debdiff
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8573606/mailody_0.5.0-2ubuntu2.debdiff

** Description changed:

The QCA library (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qca) is currently
  used by:

  - psi
  - mailody

The problem that will arise with the sync is: QCA1 is a Qt3 library used
  by Qt3 applications; QCA2 is a Qt4 library used by Qt4 applications.
  Both, however, are managed in Debian as the same source package (qca;
  http://packages.qa.debian.org/q/qca.html) and their binaries are
conflicting (libqca.so). QCA1 programs cannot be easily ported to QCA2.

While the Debian source package for QCA2 is qca, the Ubuntu source
package qca2 has spent quite some time in NEW. It should probably be

Mailody is a more complicated case, there is no public Qt4/QCA2 release
yet, although porting efforts are underway. I will inquire toma about
  their status.

For now, as a temporary solution until the Qt4 versions are accepted
into Ubuntu, we can do the following:

correspondingly).
  2. Rebuild current versions of psi and mailody against the new package.
  3. Sync qca_2.0.0~beta7 from Debian.

[Bug 126572] Re: Separate cli, gtk and qt4 packages for 2.4

2007-07-25 Thread Sikon
Here's a REVU package: http://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=6179

It might be treated as purely experimental, in anticipation of 2.4
final. But nevertheless it's there.

There are five binary packages built:

avidemux-common
avidemux-cli
avidemux-gtk
avidemux-qt4
avidemux (transitional) - avidemux-gtk

I chose CMake, as it's a newer addition and will probably be the main
focus of upstream developers, even though it requires a dpatch for the
configure system to find FAAC and x264.

[Bug 126572] Separate cli, gtk and qt4 packages for 2.4

2007-07-17 Thread Sikon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avidemux

It may be too early for that, but I'm filing the bug prematurely because
2.4 isn't very far away.

Just wanted to notify the packagers that version 2.4 will require
changes in packaging because it now includes three separate binaries:
avidemux2_cli, avidemux2_gtk and avidemux2_qt4.

I think one should be able to install each binary separately.

The composition of the package can be broken apart as follows:

avidemux (transitional) - avidemux-gtk
avidemux-cli
avidemux-gtk
avidemux-qt

all built from a single source.

One more thing to consider: version 2.4 includes two alternate build
systems, the old autotools-based and the new cmake-based. Neither is
perfect: the old one needs some juggling with ./configure options to
build the qt4 version, and the new one doesn't see faac and x264, and
tries to build without them.

I would advise packagers to start building preliminary packages of
2.4pre2, to be fully armed when 2.4 final arrives.

Neither of these changes are now necessary. Patch 01 is in Debian (it's
not a dpatch, but the necessary changes are still there), while patch 03
has become obsolete with libgpod 0.5.2.

However, since libgpod-dev 0.5.2 is not yet in Ubuntu or Debian, and it
is in build-depends for the Debian package, the sync will have to wait
until bug #124982 is closed.

[Bug 121872] *-qt4 tools should be present in $QTDIR/bin

2007-06-23 Thread Sikon
Public bug reported:

Yes, they are in /usr/bin.

The problem is, some configure scripts (Avidemux, for instance) assume
that these binaries are located in the Qt directory (/usr/share/qt4/bin)
AND have -qt4 in their names, whereas this is not the case: there exist
/usr/bin/moc-qt4 (for instance) and /usr/share/qt4/bin/moc, which is a
symlink to it, but not /usr/share/qt4/bin/moc-qt4.

Since symlinks are cheap, I think the package maintainer can simply add
these symlinks, which would duplicate the number of symlinks in
/usr/share/qt4/bin but won't have any system overhead.

[Bug 120315] Upgrading to 0.11

2007-06-13 Thread Sikon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: psi

I have built a preliminary package of psi 0.11RC1. It is available at
revu at http://revu.tauware.de/details.py?upid=5513 .

Rationale: version 0.11 uses Qt4 instead of Qt3, so the earlier we
resolve the associated issues, the better.

This package uses bundled QCA2; Psi's configure script allows this and
provides an empty source tree in release tarballs (however, the SVN
version does use bundled QCA2). The reason for this is that Ubuntu
doesn't have packages for QCA2, and Debian's packages conflict with
QCA1.

The downside is, the diff.gz is ridiculously large because of the added
QCA source. Perhaps if I can get upstream developers to release a
tarball with bundled QCA...

[Bug 119010] Re: [needs-packaging] Netscape Navigator 9

2007-06-13 Thread Sikon
I protest - it is proprietary software. Firefox, which Netscape 9 is
based on, covers browsing more than adequately.

[Bug 105907] Re: [needs-packaging]cinelerra

2007-06-13 Thread Sikon
Yes, the unofficial repository only has packages for i386-derived
architectures. Also, they're buggy and crashy as heck.

[Bug 120335] [needs-packaging] freecol 0.6.1

2007-06-13 Thread Sikon
Public bug reported:

FreeCol is a free (GPL) strategy game conceived as a clone of Sid
Meier's Colonization. It is written in Java.

There is an unofficial package:
http://www.getdeb.net/search.php?keywords=freecol . It looks good at
first glance, except that FreeCol.log should be empty or should not
exist, and in the packaged version it contains some game output (see
diff.gz).

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed
